Feeling the scrutiny from Fu Qixun, Qin Ying's back stiffened again.
There was something behind Wei Zhuolan's words; he had already noticed her abnormality.
Originally, he hadn't been suspicious of the violin incident, but now that she had the ability to perform surgery, the way he looked at her was no longer right.
After a day of surgery and the explosion this morning, she is now physically and mentally exhausted.
Listening to the ticking of the monitor, every beat felt like a knock on her nerves.
And she really didn't want to see Wei Zhuolan.
Xu Jinshu has been crying ever since she learned that Fu Hanzhou was seriously injured.
At the end of the day, she looked exhausted.
It was already dark, and Qin Ying spoke hoarsely:
"Everyone, go back first. Hanzhou needs to rest."
Xu Jinshu wiped the tears from the corners of his eyes, held Qin Ying's cold hand and gently stroked it:
“Yingying, if it weren’t for you today…the Fu family owes you a life.”
Her voice trembled, and her intellectual integrity was shattered by fear at this moment.
"You haven't had a drop of water all day and you've been in surgery for a full eight hours. Otherwise..."
"Mom, I'm not tired. I'm here to guard Hanzhou."
She pulled her hand out and held onto the railing of the bed, her back already soaked with cold sweat.
No matter what the considerations were, she had to stay here today, no matter how tired she was.
What she had to face was not only Fu Hanzhou's body, but also his questioning. She could no longer hide.
Xu Jinshu did not insist any longer, because she knew that Qin Ying's worries were no less than hers.
Fu Hanting clutched her nurse's cap and moved to Wei Zhuolan's side, her earlobes flushed.
"Teacher Wei, it's so late, let me take you out."
Wei Zhuolan was about to refuse when he caught a glimpse of Fu Hanting's expectant eyes. His eyes flashed and he smiled gently.
"Then I'll trouble you, Comrade Han Ting."
He glanced at Qin Ying inconspicuously and said meaningfully:
"I happen to have some medical journals I'd like to recommend to you. We can chat on the way."
Fu Hanting's brows immediately lit up with joy, and she ran to the door to wait for him.
Wei Zhuolan straightened the collar of his Zhongshan suit and was about to walk out when his half-smile swept across Qin Ying's white knuckles.
The corners of his mouth curled up calmly.
He suddenly turned to look at Fu Qixun, his tone filled with just the right amount of regret:
"Uncle Fu, Director Zhang just said that the most dangerous part of today's surgery is the modified posterior rectus sheath compression method used to treat the portal vein. This unconventional procedure actually controls bleeding faster than the textbook method."
Xu Jinshu looked at Qin Ying doubtfully, and Fu Hanting agreed with wide eyes:
"Yes! My sister-in-law didn't even have proper equipment at the time. She improvised tools using a urinary catheter and hemostat, and she actually managed to suppress the bleeding!"
“That’s why I say it’s interesting.”
Wei Zhuolan raised his eyebrows and glanced at her, straightened his cuffs, and with a deep gaze like a poisoned silver needle, he walked to Fu Hanzhou's bedside in a serious manner and tucked in the quilt for him.
"Director Zhang also mentioned that Comrade Qin Ying's technique in dissecting the tissue around the blood vessels was extremely sophisticated. A less experienced doctor would have easily caused a secondary tear."
There was a quietness in the air.
Several people's eyes were on Qin Ying.
Experienced?
This word is used with great meaning!
He turned slightly to look at the monitor, lowering his voice so only Qin Ying could hear:
"Is this 'boldness and carefulness' a natural gift, or does it... have another origin?"
Fu Qixun's military boots made a dull sound as they rolled over the ground, but Wei Zhuolan had already turned around and continued to tuck in Fu Hanzhou's quilt with a gentle smile on his face.
"Medicine is changing so rapidly that even a teacher like me can't keep up."
Qin Ying's throat tightened, and her eyes swept across Fu Hanzhou's pale face. She remained calm on the surface, and a slightly stiff smile appeared at the corner of her lips:
"The situation was urgent and we couldn't wait for the usual procedures. We just had to try our best. If Teacher Wei was there, he would have made a quick decision as well."
Her voice was steady, with only the slightly trembling ending revealing the turmoil in her heart.
Xu Jinshu looked at Qin Ying, then at Wei Zhuolan, with a puzzled look on his face:
"Yingying, when did you become so knowledgeable about these complex medical techniques?"
Now that she had calmed down, she suddenly realized this, and her tone was full of confusion.
Qin Ying felt like she was standing on a criticism platform, her whole body stiff.
Wei Zhuolan's obvious temptation made Fu Qixun's back straighten instantly, like a battle-hardened pine tree with unquestionable majesty.
He took a few steps forward, standing in front of Qin Ying with great momentum. His battle-hardened eyes were now filled with vigilance and alertness as he stared coldly at Wei Zhuolan.
"Comrade Xiao Wei, it's getting late."
This blunt remark to drive people away caused another ripple in the atmosphere of the ward.
Fu Hanting noticed something was wrong. She looked at this and that, and tugged at Wei Zhuolan's sleeve nervously:
"Teacher Wei, should we... go now?"
Wei Zhuolan smiled slightly, retracted his gaze from Qin Ying, and returned to his usual gentle demeanor:
"Look at me, I was so busy discussing academic matters that I forgot about time. Commander Fu, Aunt Xu, please come visit Commander Fu another day."
He nodded politely, turned around and left with Fu Hanting.
As the ward door slowly closed, Qin Ying's tense body instantly relaxed, her legs went soft, and she almost fell to the ground.
The temptation hidden in Wei Zhuolan's questioning is more frightening than a direct threat.
“Yingying, your expression is scarier than Hanzhou’s.”
Xu Jinshu's fingertips stroked the dark circles under her eyes, and his skinny fingers left a rough touch on her skin.
Qin Ying pulled the corners of her mouth, forced a soothing smile, and wanted to say something, but finally gave up.
Fu Qixun stared at her pale and weak face, and the wariness in his eyes instantly turned into worry and heartache.
The rough palm patted her shoulder and softened his voice:
"Girl, don't take it to heart. With the Fu family here, no one can bully you."
Xu Jinshu nodded in agreement and held her hand. Suddenly, he thought of the question he hadn't asked yet and glanced at his unconscious son.
"Yingying, your..."
But when the words came to his lips, he was stopped by Fu Qixun's sharp eyes.
The words that came out of my mouth took on a different meaning:
"...Also make sure to rest at night."
Although he had doubts in his heart, his eyes remained firm and he patted her hand:
"Yingying, no matter what happens...the Fu family will not let you carry it alone."
The words seemed to be soothing, but the ending tone carried an imperceptible temptation.
"Let's go!"
Fu Qixun said this solemnly, and led the way out. When he turned around, his epaulettes brushed against the door frame, making a cold, hard metallic sound.
He paused, tilted his head slightly and added:
"Yingying, don't let Hanzhou become your last trump card."
These words made Xu Jinshu's hands hanging at her side tremble slightly. She hurriedly stood in front of Fu Qixun and took over the conversation:
"Yingying, I'll ask Aunt Wu to bring you food later. You should also take care of yourself..."
