Qin Ying stood in the corridor and looked back. When the iron door just closed, Qin Meihua looked at her for the last time - that was not hatred, but the futile grasping of a drowning person.
Listening to the footsteps receding in the corridor, Qin Meihua finally let out the sobs that she had suppressed for so long.
The itchiness from the wounds gnawed by mice, the reed fragments left in the cracks of her fingernails, and the cold feeling of the glass at this moment, wove a dense web on her skin.
In the abandoned warehouse in the west of the city, she recalled her tragic past, in which she was raped and betrayed by her own brother. Now even her only support has become a death warrant.
The incandescent light in the interrogation room suddenly flickered, and Qin Meihua looked up suddenly.
The glass reflected her distorted face, which gradually overlapped with the reflection she had seen in the warehouse three days ago.
At that time, she fled hastily from the reed marsh, her whole body soaked as she curled up in a pile of sacks, her nose filled with the disgusting smell of mold, she felt the cold raindrops on the back of her neck, and listened to the sirens coming from afar. But now, the sirens have long since died down, leaving only the dirt and scars on her body, reminding her of the fate she cannot escape.
In the interrogation room, the dim light flickered dimly. Qin Meihua rested her forehead against the cold glass, like a dying insect.
She stared at her own reflection in the glass. Her once carefully dressed-up face now looked as haggard as a ghost, beneath her messy hair.
"If I hadn't brought Qin Ying home..."
She stretched her throat and let out a dry and shrill laugh, which echoed in the small space.
Eighteen years ago, Qin Shengcai walked into the house holding the two-year-old Qin Ying. She stood aside and watched her father staring at the martyr certificate of Qin Ying's father. The calculating light in his eyes was more glaring than the broken light bulb in the interrogation room.
Qin Ying’s arrival was the beginning of all the suffering!
Why did she come!
If it weren't for her, I wouldn't know Fu Hanzhou, and I wouldn't know that I could have contact with such a high-ranking official.
I wouldn't let such a strong desire grow in her heart, but how can I blame myself for this?
Their family raised Qin Ying, so couldn't they just give up the engagement to themselves?
Why doesn't she know how to be grateful? She's such an ungrateful person!
She had clearly agreed to a divorce at home, so why did she suddenly change her mind when she got to the guesthouse?
It was clearly planned to make her give in. She could marry Zhao Shunxi, and she could marry Fu Hanzhou. Then nothing would happen. Isn't that good?
It’s all Qin Ying’s fault, it’s all her fault!
She caused all this!
And the Fu family, why do they want to make a comeback?
Since she has stayed in the countryside, she should not look back. Why did she lose the chance to become a rich wife by going back and forth again and again?
It's all their fault!
Who wouldn’t be tempted by such a good thing?
Was she wrong to make a deal with Zhao Shunxi? She just wanted to live a decent life.
Zhao Shunxi deserves to die. He was already in a relationship with her, but he still fell in love with Qin Ying. If he didn't fall in love with Qin Ying, she wouldn't have sought his help.
He stared at Qin Ying as she grew into a young girl, with greed in his eyes, just like when those thugs later tore her clothes off.
The raindrops leaking through the iron window hit her face, and she suddenly trembled all over.
Just like the way the villagers looked at her and Zhao Shunxi when they were together, it made her feel uncomfortable all over.
So she couldn't go back and had to stay in Yancheng.
But they all bullied her, Jin Wenge, Gu Pingan, and...
And her own brother!
She suddenly squatted on the ground, whimpering like a wounded beast.
If he hadn't come to Yancheng to seek refuge with her...
"Qinghua, you've really killed yourself, hahaha..."
The last time she saw him in this life, she was hiding in the reeds, suppressing her frantic heartbeat, and watching Gu Ping'an inject the anesthetic into his neck.
He staggered back in disbelief, crushing the reeds on the ground. He tried to struggle to escape, but Gu Ping'an held him down.
Through the reeds, she saw fear in his eyes, and he pleaded bitterly:
"You can't kill me! My sister knows about you!"
These were his last words. He collapsed to the ground, eyes wide open in despair, whimpering a few times before falling heavily into the icy river.
Only when he died did he realize that Gu Ping'an was a devil. He could kill someone and yet he could calmly tidy up his clothes as if nothing had happened.
She ran aimlessly like a madman until her legs gave out and she stopped.
The night was deep and the dew was heavy, and the cold was biting.
She is unwilling to accept it!
She slammed into the iron bars, her forehead hitting the glass and making a buzzing sound.
Qinghua, you deserve to die. I am your sister. When you pushed me to join the gang, did you ever think that we are blood relatives?
How could she be so stupid, using her body as a bargaining chip to gain a foothold for this beast...
"It's all fate..."
Memories cut through her nerves like a knife, and she seemed to hear those harsh laughs again:
"Your sister is much more obedient than you in bed..."
“…I can play with several at once!”
She laughed wildly, her laughter mixed with sobs.
"But if I don't do this, what else can I do?!"
She stared out the window with her red eyes, and a dying sound came from her throat:
"It doesn't matter. Since we're all going to hell... let's drag everyone in!"
At the end of the corridor, Captain Xing opened the iron door of the interrogation room, and Qin Ying and Xiaocheng walked in together.
Gu Ping'an is imprisoned here.
The moment the rotten smell hit her face, Qin Ying's eyes froze - unlike the messy interrogation room next door, the air here was actually filled with the faint scent of jasmine hair oil.
