"Wife, I made you a bowl of brown sugar and egg water, drink it quickly..."
Su Baoshan entered the house carrying brown sugar water.
Compared with the Ling family, the Su family's conditions are worse.
For example, the Ling family built a large chicken coop, raised more than a dozen chickens, and fed two pigs, but the Su family only had three rooms and raised a few chickens. They were reluctant to eat the eggs laid every day. It was only because Xu Xiangru had to breastfeed her child every day that she ate some of them. Otherwise, the eggs would have been taken to the town to exchange for money.
In addition to eggs, the brown sugar was also given by the Ling family. Su Baoshan and his friends didn't have the ability to get the brown sugar tickets themselves.
Su Baoshan's wife Xu Xiangru was half leaning on the bed, wearing a thick cotton-padded jacket with floral patterns, and was holding her child and feeding her.
There was a hint of blue in his eyes.
The child closed his eyes after eating and soon began to snore softly. Xu Xiangru put the child aside, casually tucked the scattered hair behind his ears, and took the black ceramic bowl.
The frangipani flowers turned deep red, and the taste of brown sugar washed away the fishy smell of eggs.
After drinking the egg water, Xu Xiangru yawned loudly.
Last night, the child kept crying for no apparent reason. She had to comfort the child and feed him/her, and she didn't sleep well the whole night.
"I can hardly open my eyes. I'll sleep a little longer. If Niu Niu wakes up, you can make her some milk powder..." Xu Xiangru said casually to her husband.
Su Baoshan hesitated when he heard this and said, "That milk powder..."
Xu Xiangru didn't hear the second half of the sentence for a long time. She opened her eyes reluctantly and found that his face seemed a little off. She frowned immediately and asked, "What's wrong?"
Su Baoshan had no choice but to tell the truth that he did not borrow the milk powder from the Ling family.
"Why? Is it because Brother Hancheng doesn't want to give it to you?"
Xu Xiangru didn't think about Chu Yuefang at all. She knew how much Chu Yuefang loved her daughter, and asking for some milk powder was nothing.
Su Baoshan said, "I haven't seen Yuefang and told Hancheng about this, but he said... his family doesn't have much milk powder left, and he said that his daughter doesn't have enough to eat..."
Until now, Su Baoshan still hasn't figured out what's going on.
Xu Xiangru was also stunned when she heard this.
"What? What did you say? His daughter? Where did his daughter come from?"
The Ling family specializes in giving birth to sons. Xu Xiangru and Chu Yuefang have been married for only two years, and she has just given birth to a child with great difficulty, but Chu Yuefang has already given birth to five in a row.
And they are all sons.
When Chu Yuefang heard that she had given birth to a daughter, her eyes turned green.
Could it be that they are...missing their daughter so much that they are going crazy?
Su Baoshan said, "I don't know what's going on. Anyway, Hancheng said he had to go to town after dinner. He looked very hurried."
Xu Xiangru thought about it for a while but still couldn't figure out what was going on.
She didn't want to make up for the sleep at this moment, so she stretched out her arms and put on her cotton jacket, then lifted the quilt and put on her thick cotton pants.
"Where are you going?" Su Baoshan asked hurriedly.
"I have to go see what's going on!"
The more Xu Xiangru thought about it, the more she felt something was wrong, and she felt a little uneasy.
She has to go to the Ling family to take a look.
As soon as I walked out the door, I couldn't help shivering.
It's so cold.
Xu Xiangru rubbed her hands and stamped her feet, only to run into Su Baoshan's mother who had just come out of the house.
"It's so cold, why don't you rest in the house? What are you doing?" Su's mother looked at Xu Xiangru and said.
He's dressed so neatly, he looks like he's ready to go out.
Xu Xiangru responded casually: "Mom, I have to go out for something."
Su's mother wanted to say something, but Xu Xiangru had already stepped out of the door, and her face suddenly fell.
Su Baoshan, who followed behind, saw that Su's mother looked unhappy and said quickly, "Mom, Xiangru went to the next door for something, don't worry."
The wrinkles on Su's mother's face gathered together: "She is in such a bad condition that she can't take good care of herself. When will she be able to get pregnant again?"
"Niuniu is only a few months old, how can it be that fast? This matter...we have to wait until Niuniu is two or three years old..." Su Baoshan stammered to his mother.
When Su's mother heard this, her eyebrows almost stood up.
"What do you mean by 'two or three years old'? She's already in her thirties. How could she possibly give birth later?" Su's mother sternly said, "You two have been married for seven or eight years, and you've only just given birth to a daughter. How can I, your mother, ever hold a grandson in my arms?"
"Your wife has such a good relationship with the Ling family's wife, why don't you learn from her? She gave birth to five boys for the Ling family in a row!"
"You're such a wimp, acting so spoiled all the time. Not only can you not do as much work as others, but you don't even know how to work hard with your belly."
"And you, how could I raise a son like you who obeys his wife's every word?"
Su Baoshan was so shocked by what his mother said that he didn't dare to say a word.
Seeing her son's shrunken, quail-like appearance, Su's mother was furious. She waved her hand and said, "Since your wife is free to run around, I won't bother you here anymore. I'll pack up and stay at your eldest brother's for a few days."
Su Baoshan also has an older brother, Su Baopeng, but the family separated when his older brother got married.
The current house of the Su family was built by the deceased father. Mother Su favored the youngest son. After the eldest son got married, Mother Su gave him some money and let him share the profits.
Su Baopeng also lives in Huaihe Village, only two rows of houses away from the Su family.
Su Baoshan and Xu Xiangru have been married for so many years but Su's mother has never had a grandson. Even though Su's mother prefers her younger son, she loves the eldest grandson of the old family very much.
