Gu Chijin's voice came through the darkness:
"Yes. More than once."
Jiang Chen instantly became interested and lay down towards Gu Chijin's iron bed:
“Did he say anything to you?
I just couldn't understand why the leaders above sent another person to training out of the blue.
Still a new recruit?
You don’t know, after Zhang Jiandong found out about this, he was so angry that his nose was crooked.
He even said he was going to talk to Political Commissar Xu, but was persuaded to come back by many of his teammates.
Gu Chijin lay flat on the bed, staring at the white ceiling, his voice calm:
"Yeah?
I was also surprised to see him at first.
However, I didn't communicate much with him in the army, and it was only when we went on a mission together that some problems occurred.
We then lost sight of him for a long time."
Jiang Chen exclaimed, his eyes widening:
“What’s going on?
What happened to you on your mission?"
Gu Chijin pulled the quilt up to his waist and turned over:
"It was just a little accident, nothing much to say.
Go to sleep quickly.
I have to get up early tomorrow morning.
I'll be training in the army tomorrow, and I'll go back to the military compound with you in the evening."
After all, this was the courtyard where he and Shi Qi lived together. After being away for half a year, Gu Chijin also wanted to go back and take a look.
Jiang Chen's attention was immediately diverted:
"Don't worry, everything is fine at home.
My wife and Ji Zhang's wife go to your house to help clean every few days.
You will be the same person when you and Shiqi left.
Speaking of this Jiang Chen, he laughed and scolded Gu Chijin:
"You are so lucky, your wife has arranged everything for you after you leave the hospital.
Just wait for you to come back after training."
Speaking of Shi Qi, Gu Chijin's face showed a little smile, and in the darkness, his eyes softened.
"I am indeed very lucky."
Gu Chijin agreed with Jiang Chen's words very much.
"This time in Beijing, she came to the army to see me several times."
Jiang Chen listened to his boasting and chuckled mischievously.
“I know, I know.
When the iron tree blooms, the old bachelor begins to desire worldly things.
We all know that your wife treats you very well, right?
Go to sleep, go to sleep. I waited for you today and you didn’t come back to the military family compound. My wife must be missing me tonight.
Go back early tomorrow and have a warm meal made by my wife."
He turned up the volume, turned over, covered himself with the quilt, and fell asleep happily.
Jiang Chen's breathing quickly became steady.
Gu Chijin lay on the bed, staring at the ceiling. The smile he had when he mentioned Shi Qi just now disappeared.
Before leaving, Li Shaoyu had already told him the information and positions of the Li family's subordinates. After reporting for duty tomorrow, he would contact this person and start investigating who in the army was from the Qu family.
Time is urgent, and he cannot go back to the military family compound with Jiang Chen every day for the next period of time.
For the safety of Jiang Chen and the others, he had to keep a distance from them.
After planning everything, Gu Chijin closed his eyes and rested.
Neither of them, thousands of miles apart, slept well tonight.
But the next morning, the two got up very early.
It's a sunny day in the army today.
As the sky brightened and the sounds of military training began to play, Gu Chijin and Jiang Chen got up and washed their faces.
After changing into their military uniforms, buttoning their collars, and folding their blankets, the two men walked out of the military dormitory one after the other.
Gu Chijin had to go see Political Commissar Xu first, and separated from Jiang Chen at the training ground.
Walking into Political Commissar Xu’s office, Gu Chijin saw Political Commissar Xu again.
He was still as energetic as he was half a year ago, with a cup of hot tea always by his side.
Seeing Gu Chijin come in, Political Commissar Xu waved to him and asked him to sit down.
"Have you gained anything from training in the capital over the past six months?"
Political Commissar Xu is 55 years old this year and has gray hair on his temples.
Sitting on the chair, he looked at Gu Chijin with a smile.
Gu Chijin gave Political Commissar Xu a standard military salute and stood in front of the office with his back straight.
"Commissar Xu, I have benefited a lot from my training in the Beijing troops.
Learned a lot of the essence of individual and team battles.
I will be able to make better contributions to the army in the future."
Looking at his resolute face, Political Commissar Xu nodded in satisfaction:
“Not bad, not bad.
It’s good to have some gains.
After you went to the capital last time, the higher-ups ordered the new recruit Qu Feng to participate in the training as well.
I'm also worried that if you meet in the army, some conflicts will arise.
Now it seems that I was just being overly suspicious.
Now that you are the deputy commander of the Third Battalion, you will assist the commander and lead the Third Battalion well."
"Yes, Commissar."
Gu Chijin raised his right hand and saluted, then spoke a few more words to Political Commissar Xu before leaving the office.
Jiang Chen didn't see Gu Chijin after finishing his morning exercises.
When he washed his face and went over, he saw Gu Chijin talking to a strange military officer in his forties.
Jiang Chen ran over quickly, but before he reached the two of them, he saw the middle-aged officer turn around and leave.
"Who is that person? Why haven't I seen him before?"
Running in front of Gu Chijin, Jiang Chen looked at the man's back and asked in confusion.
“There are so many people in the army, it’s normal that you don’t know one or two people occasionally.
Let’s go have breakfast.”
In order to prevent Jiang Chen from noticing anything, Gu Chijin, who had just met with Li's men, pushed him forward.
Although Jiang Chen was curious, he was interrupted by Gu Chijin and did not try to find out the man's identity.
After breakfast, Jiang Chen went back to the company for training. Today the army had a team combat test, and as the company commander, he also had to participate.
Gu Chijin had just returned and needed two days to adapt. He then reported back to the Third Battalion and trained with the new recruits for a day. In the evening, he returned to the military family compound with Jiang Chen.
