Chapter 44: Clarity

Lin Xiaoxiao's guess was correct. Before the three of them reached the river, they saw people from the village from afar, all holding buckets and basins, picking snails by the river.

The entire riverbank was densely packed with people.

"With so many people here, all the snails will be gone, right?" Lin Rui was a little worried. They had just found a way to make money, but within two days, this happened.

"Brother, sister, it's all my fault." The little kid's face was twisted into a ball.

Lin Xiaoxiao pinched the little kid's cheeks and said, "Look at you all, what are you worried about? The news about selling snails will get out sooner or later."

"Even if it doesn't get out, snails are seasonal and we can't always count on them."

Lin Rui thought about it and agreed. He didn’t have time to think about it, so he took the bucket and ran to the river to catch snails.

Lin Xiaoxiao took a basin and used her little baby bump to feel around in the shallow water. As she felt around, she sighed and thought, "It would be great if there was a net specifically for getting screws."

In that way, we can catch snails that dive into deep water, and we can catch more than ten or twenty kilograms in one net, which is much more convenient than this.

Just as she was thinking, two women suddenly surrounded her. Lin Xiaoxiao couldn't recognize who they were, but she knew they were also from the village.

"Xiaoxiao, where do you sell snails at the market?"

"Is there someone specifically buying it, or what?"

While touching the snails, they smiled and asked Lin Xiaoxiao some questions.

“If no one buys, I’ll just sell it at the market.”

"There are so many in this ditch. If someone wants it, can't they just touch it themselves? Why spend money? Isn't it a waste of money?"

"I don't know about that either." Lin Xiaoxiao shook her head. "If someone buys snails, I'm happy to take the money. Who would ask that?"

That's true.

“Do people buy snails to eat or for other purposes?”

Lin Xiaoxiao asked in confusion, "Does this snail have any other uses?"

“…”

The two women didn't get anything useful out of each other, and were left speechless by Lin Xiaoxiao's questions.

One of the women targeted the little kid. The kid was ignorant and said whatever he wanted, so it was easier to win him over.

"Naibao, why haven't I seen you go play with Qiangqiang recently?"

Little Milk Bag looked confused. Qiangqiang's mother usually didn't like him and didn't let Qiangqiang play with him, so why was she asking this now?

Although I didn't understand, I still told the truth, "Qiangqiang won't play with me."

As if thinking of her previous behavior, Qiangqiang's mother was too lazy to play tricks and simply got straight to the point, "Naibao, who did your sister sell the snails to?"

"I don't know him."

"How much does it sell for per pound? How much did your family sell it for?" This was what she wanted to know most. Lin Xiaoxiao would definitely not tell her, so she didn't ask Lin Xiaoxiao just now.

Little Milk Bag shook his head, "I don't know money."

After asking several questions in a row, the little kid couldn't answer any of them, and she also delayed herself from catching a lot of snails. Qiangqiang's mother glared at the little kid, muttered, "Useless thing", and left with the basin.

There were too many people picking snails, and almost all the snails in the diving area were picked. Lin Xiaoxiao's waist was sore from bending over, and she only picked up a small half basin.

Just as she was about to change places, Zhou Cuifen came up to her with a basin in her hand and asked unhappily, "Where did you hear about selling snails for money?"

There was already a lot of work to do at home, and now that the news came out that the snails could be sold for money, she couldn't sit still at all.

"You'll know if you go and sell it tomorrow."

Lin Xiaoxiao didn't even raise her head and continued to touch the snail.

Zhou Cuifen seemed to think of something and asked again, "Last time you said you wanted to jump into the river, you were actually trying to catch snails, right?"

When she returned home that day, she felt something was wrong. Who would jump into the river with their trouser legs rolled up?
