Chapter 192 Dream
Ying Yun answered very fluently.
"Back then, the Xu family hired you as the personal bodyguard of the old patriarch of the Xu family."
"The two-month employment period started smoothly, but the Xu family ran into trouble near the end."
"The Xu family is a big target, and during that period, many of their former adversaries joined forces to bring them down..."
Just as Xin Que's contract was about to expire, she unfortunately encountered internal strife within the Xu family.
Having helped the old patriarch escape death countless times, Xin Que was ambushed by his godson on the last occasion when she escorted him back to his old residence.
Xin Que risked his life to bring the old patriarch out during this encirclement, but this escape was not lucky. The old patriarch was injured in his internal organs, and even though his family used the best medical resources, they could not pull him back from the brink of death.
“You mentioned to me that the Xu family later fell apart over the inheritance. They insisted that you had some fabricated will and evidence, and kept pressuring you to come forward as a witness.”
"After that, you couldn't stand it anymore, so you went abroad to the country where I live." Ying Yun sighed.
When Xin Que heard the will and the evidence, her brain seemed to be stimulated by a key word, and she felt pain again.
"Take a rest," Ying Yun said, seeing that her headache was starting again, so he stopped bothering her. "We're safe now, don't worry."
Xin Que had a splitting headache, so she leaned back in her airplane seat and slowly closed her eyes.
Something's not right.
Ying Yun's account was so detailed that he knew the time, place, and people perfectly, making it almost flawless.
But what's strange is that this statement is just too complete and fluent.
It sounded more like a personal account than a retelling from Xin Que.
As Xin Que pondered what Ying Yun wanted from her, her mind grew increasingly heavy from the dull pain, and she even felt a slight drowsiness.
The world around her gradually faded away.
Sleepiness gradually enveloped Xin Que's consciousness. She was like a fish drifting with the current, carried by the undercurrent towards the dark depths of the sea.
"..."
"..."
I could hear someone breathing heavily, with a bloody smell, nearby.
I opened my eyes in my dream, but the world before me was still blurry.
The time in the dream was nighttime.
She couldn't tell what kind of dream she was having.
Her vision finally focused, and she realized that she seemed to be in some kind of ruins.
With her limbs stiff and her head unable to move, Xin Que felt as if she were experiencing a nightmare, or as if she were trapped in some kind of puppet.
After some effort, Xin Que finally managed to discern her current situation in the dream.
She sat on a chair in the ruins, with dense black thorns growing around her feet.
The ruins were shrouded in a mist, making them impossible to see clearly.
"..."
Xin Que clearly heard the direction of the breathing sound.
Behind her?
The stench of blood gradually filled the air, becoming increasingly pungent.
“…Xin…” It was a man’s voice.
Xin Que's heart sank.
Does he know her?
Thorns pierced through the ruins like madmen, and soon, Xin Que was left with nothing beneath her, falling from the thorn-ravaged ruins into the darkness.
Xin Que finally got a clear look at the man's figure.
She seemed to have no memory of men.
but……
Xin Que saw the ruins that had collapsed into the darkness, and her pupils dilated suddenly.
That's not a ruin at all.
Those were countless puppets.
Without exception, they were all Xin Que's faces.
When Xin Que fell onto the thorns in the darkness, the thorns seemed to come alive and quickly crushed the dolls that landed on them.
I hate you.
Xin Que suddenly opened her eyes.
"What's wrong?" Ying Yun's voice still carried a hint of sleepiness. He yawned, got up, walked to Xin Que's bedside, and reached out to touch Xin Que's forehead.
"No fever?"
Xin Que sat up.
A light rain pattered down on the window beside Xin Que, soaking the pleasing greenery outside.
Xin Que was stunned. "Aren't we... still on the plane?"
It took Ying Yun a long time to realize what she was talking about.
“Xin Que, we’ve been living in this foreign town for half a month now…” Ying Yun hugged her from behind, resting his chin in the crook of her neck, “Has your amnesia flared up again?”
His patience was inexhaustible. "We fled all the way here to escape the Xu family."
Ying Yun held the phone up to her. "Look, our landing date was half a month ago."
"Did the incident with the Xu family leave you with some kind of post-traumatic stress disorder?" Ying Yun asked with some concern, "You suddenly lost fifteen days' worth of memories..."
He sighed, "I'm sorry, but the situation is special right now. We're both unregistered residents, so we can't take you to a major hospital."
Xin Que raised her hand and pinched the space between her eyebrows. "No need."
It took Xin Que some time to finally sort out what had happened to her over the past fifteen days.
After going abroad with Yingyun, they traveled to several countries day and night before finally settling down in this sparsely populated and underdeveloped town.
“If it’s safe here,” Ying Yun pushed the bacon and egg in front of her, “we may have to spend the rest of our lives here.”
After Xin Que went downstairs, she looked around the small house where they were temporarily staying.
The cottage has two floors, but it's not spacious, and it doesn't even have all the appliances yet, so it definitely looks like it was recently occupied.
They had just rested on the second floor, where two folding beds were casually placed in the spacious bedroom.
"Wait a little longer," Ying Yun thought she might be disgusted by the simple conditions, and gently comforted her, "Once we're completely safe, we'll go buy furniture, okay?"
Xin Que came to her senses and said, "It has nothing to do with the furniture."
"By the way, what nightmare did you have just now?" Ying Yun asked her while washing the dishes. "It's the first time I've ever heard you talk in your sleep."
Xin Que returned the dining chair to its place, and upon hearing this, she naturally continued the conversation, "What did I say?"
Ying Yun seemed to be deep in thought. "I couldn't hear clearly, but it was something about Xu... something. Did you dream about the Xu family?"
Xin Que gave him a meaningful look.
It's the Xu family again.
What information about the Xu family did Ying Yun want to get from her?
“Ying Yun,” Xin Que called his name for the first time, “I regret it.”
She sat on the sofa, exhausted, her strength drained away.
Ying Yun dried his hands and quickly walked to her side, his face full of worry. "Why did you suddenly say this... Don't overthink it."
Xin Que raised her hand to cover her face, "I shouldn't have impulsively killed someone."
Ying Yun fell silent for a moment, then gently pulled the person into his arms. "Xu Yuan has been very aggressive, so it's not your fault."
“But we didn’t have to end up like this,” Xin Que said in a somber voice. “If we hadn’t killed anyone, we wouldn’t have had to live in fear and hide.”
She paused, then, thinking of the original owner's and Ying Yun's character settings, added a supplementary sentence: "The peaceful days we finally managed to settle down were destroyed by my own hands."
