Chapter 206 Appeasement

Chapter 206 Appeasement

Xin Que quickly grabbed the man who had completely lost control and was self-harming, then ripped off the blood-stained thorns from his hands and arms, and ransacked the place.

Her character as a mercenary isn't exactly normal either; she occasionally relies on medication to cope with the psychological trauma caused by various bloody missions.

The medications she used to take under her previous identity are barely adequate for Luo Huayi's current symptoms.

Luo Huayi sat on the sofa, wearing a shirt, looking at the medicine and water that Xin Que had placed on the coffee table, her expression still numb.

"Take your medicine first, then we'll talk about other things," Xin Que said, as she cleaned up the traces of their debauchery on the ground. "Your current mental state is too dangerous."

One major side effect of psychotropic drugs is that they can cause an overwhelming feeling of fatigue.

Luo Huayi's eyelids grew heavier and heavier.

Before falling into a deep sleep, he seemed to fall into someone's arms and be placed on a bed.

...

"Yes," Xin Que answered the phone while holding it between her cheek and shoulder, and threw the chopped vegetables into the pot. "I'm back in China."

Ying Yun's anxious voice came from the other end of the phone, "You're always like this!"

His voice had a heavy nasal tone, "Do you really want to bear all the danger yourself?"

Xin Que said expressionlessly, "My affairs are none of your business. Just take good care of yourself abroad."

Ying Yun remained silent for a moment before gritting her teeth and saying, "I'm going back to China to find you right away!"

Xin Que was not surprised by this result at all.

As the central part of this interrogation plan, he naturally stayed by Xin Que's side as much as possible to prevent her from doing anything unexpected.

[Xin Que?]

Cheng Zheng's voice finally rang in her ears.

Xin Que put her phone back in her pocket.

"[Is everything going smoothly on your end?]" Cheng Zheng contacted her through the consciousness channel. "[I've laid the groundwork as planned, laying the groundwork to suggest that Lin Ying's prison would suspect him and try to eliminate him.]"

Xin Que tossed the cleaver back onto the knife rack. "Okay, everything's going smoothly on my end."

Cheng Zheng breathed a sigh of relief. [What's next?]

Xin Que glanced at the night view outside the window, then thought of Luo Huayi's world in the void.

Luo Huayi's ability to navigate smoothly between the old and new interrogation plans should be a new breakthrough.

“Once I enter the Xu family and the administrator has pushed the interrogation to its final stage… we’ll find a suitable time to close the net,” she replied to Cheng Zheng.

"Keep an eye on Lin Ying. If necessary, you can reveal to him the true purpose of the Huo family's investigation into me."

"Give Lin Ying a glimmer of hope that the Huo family can help him."

“By the way,” Xin Que mentioned Luo Huayi again in the consciousness channel, “Luo Huayi is not dead.”

"He not only survived, but he was even able to move freely between the old and new interrogation plans."

"You plan to continue using him?" Cheng Zheng immediately objected after hearing Xin Que's recent experiences. "The administrator has completely exposed your scheming against him; it's impossible for him to be completely unconcerned."

What if this person is only feigning allegiance and plotting to harm you later...?

Xin Que lowered her eyes. "Hmm, let's take a look first."

She still doesn't know what awaits her from the Xu family.

Pushing Luo Huayi to the opposite side without fully understanding the other party's strengths and weaknesses would do more harm than good.

Before the situation becomes clear, one's stance as a friend or foe is not absolute.

...

Luo Huayi did not sleep soundly.

One moment I dreamt that I was under Xin Que's control and became Jin Cheng, repeatedly going through those scenes of being kidnapped and then redeemed;

One moment he dreamt of Cheng Zheng, his trusted confidant who had supported him without complaint since he had nothing, and how he betrayed him with a double-dealing act.

A moment later, I dreamt of Xin Que's eyes and brows, sometimes cold, sometimes gentle.

This dream spans too much time, from childhood to adulthood, from having nothing to being the center of attention, and then back to having nothing again...

Finally, the image freezes on him sitting on the washbasin in the small hotel, with Xin Que embracing him.

Slowly opening her eyes, Luo Huayi felt a splitting headache.

Indistinct voices of a man and a woman could be heard outside the closed door.

"I'm worried about you... Let me go with you... to infiltrate the Xu family..."

It's that annoying male lead again.

Luo Huayi was about to get out of bed when her legs gave way and she almost fell headfirst off the bed.

He then recalled the memory of his emotional breakdown before falling into a coma.

After that, it's unclear what Xin Que and Ying Yun said, but their voices gradually faded away, eventually falling completely silent with the sound of the door opening and closing.

Using the pretext of infiltrating the Xu family, Xin Que sent Ying Yun back to his dormitory at the research institute where he worked before returning to his apartment.

When she got downstairs, Xin Que ignored the neighbor who was passing by her.

The neighbor glanced at Xin Que a couple more times, then took out his phone to search for news about the Xu family.

...

"Click".

The sound of the doorknob being pulled rang out.

"woke up?"

Xin Que sat down beside Luo Huayi's bed. "Drowsiness and headaches are normal side effects of that medication. Don't be afraid."

Luo Huayi propped herself up against the headboard, raised her hand to pinch her brow, and said in a hoarse voice, "Mmm."

Looking down, Luo Huayi saw again the bruises Xin Que had left on her chest during their passionate encounter.

There are still scabs on my arms and hands from when I was entangled in thorns.

He looked away and then at the marks showing under Xin Que's collar.

Everywhere you look, you can see the madness in his out-of-control demands.

“Once you’ve rested enough, change your clothes,” Xin Que pointed to the new clothes beside him. “The Xu family will be catching up soon.”

Seeing Xin Que get up and leave the room, Luo Huayi finally managed to get out of bed.

As soon as Xin Que stepped into the kitchen, the weight of the man behind her slumped down on her.

Knowing that Xin Que could catch her, Luo Huayi simply relaxed her strength, wrapped her arms around Xin Que's waist from behind, and hung on Xin Que as if she had no bones.

"Even after all this, you still won't say a kind word..." Luo Huayi's voice was hoarse, "Your heart will never be warmed."

Before he lost consciousness, he begged her like a dog, but she didn't even give him a single kind word of comfort.

She was even stingy with lies, unwilling to offer them to Luo Huayi.

Xin Que pulled the person down from behind and pressed them onto the dining chair, saying, "Eat something."

Luo Huayi stared at the vegetable porridge in the porcelain bowl in front of her. Under the rising steam, the porridge was clear and bright, dotted with emerald green and glistening white.

He finally calmed down.

Only when the bottom of the bowl was exposed did Xin Que put down the spoon, her voice calm, "You're overthinking it. Yesterday you were too fragile, and anything I said could easily push you to a point of further loss of control."

"Moreover, I don't think a few empty words are more effective than medicine." Xin Que's words were a genuine thought from the bottom of her heart.

Luo Huayi was taken aback.

"Oh," he managed to squeeze out a single word.

She has always been a pragmatist.

Talk less, do more.

After washing the dishes for both of them, Luo Huayi took the new clothes that Xin Que had prepared for him and went to the bathroom to wash up.

As Luo Huayi turned off the tap and looked up to grab a towel with her face still wet, she caught a glimpse of her inexplicably upturned lips in the mirror.

He grabbed a towel and covered his eyes.

As Xin Que bent down to put the thin ID into the pocket of her work pants, she felt a sudden weight on her body.

Luo Huayi wrapped his arms around her from behind, "Didn't you want to work with me a few days ago?"

He squinted and rubbed his cool cheek against Xin Que's warm cheek. "Tell me how you want to use me..."

"I'll think about it."
