Di Chenxiao looked at Shi Xi with a complicated expression, tightening his grip on the book in his hand, "You, you..."
He didn't know how to start the conversation, and Xixi was also afraid that he wouldn't be able to control his emotions. It wasn't just his problem; she had other people on her mind.
Shi Xi glanced at the book in Di Chenxiao's hand.
He casually remarked, "I don't know who put this book on my bedside table. I figured it doesn't matter what book I read, it'll just be a good way to pass the time."
She tidied the table and placed all the remaining books from the box on it, within easy reach.
She walked up to Di Chenxiao, took the book from his hand, and held it in her own. "I'll go see if there's anything else that needs tidying up. Wait a moment."
"I'll go with you."
"You're so clingy! Fine, let's go together then!"
This time, Shi Xi came to stay at Xiyuan without bringing much. She only brought all the books on her bedside table, the cloak that Mi Rou gave her, and the hand warmer pillow that Di Chenxiao gave her.
In Xiyuan, Di Chenxiao prepared more clothes for Shi Xi than the Shi family prepared. She could wear a different one every day, and she wouldn't be able to finish a season's worth of clothes in a year.
She casually tossed the calming mantra onto the bedside table, making it seem as if she didn't care much about the book, and that it was really just something to pass the time, as she said.
Shi Xi looked around and said, "Alright, there's nothing left to pack."
She unexpectedly fell onto the bed, feeling its softness.
But the bed beneath me wasn't soft at all; it was rather hard.
Di Chenxiao was startled by her sudden fall onto the bed. His body reacted faster than his brain, catching Shi Xi as she fell onto the bed and holding her in his arms. He lay down on the bed.
Shi Xi slowly opened her eyes, and what she saw was Di Chenxiao's face full of tension. "You...you didn't think I was going to fall, did you?"
She felt that what was hard and stiff was Di Chenxiao's muscles.
"You'll scare me to death sooner or later." Di Chenxiao wrapped his arms around Shi Xi to prevent her from doing anything shocking.
Shi Xi playfully stuck out her tongue, a little embarrassed, "Put me down first, it's uncomfortable for you to be on top of me."
"Where do you feel uncomfortable?" Di Chenxiao tightened his arms instead, preventing her from getting off him.
She struggled incessantly, like a small animal caught in a trap, moving around on Di Chenxiao's body.
Di Jiu came to call the two down for dinner, but as soon as they arrived at the door, they saw something they shouldn't have seen.
He hurriedly covered his eyes and whispered, "Master doesn't even close the door when he does bad things."
He kindly closed the door quietly.
Unexpectedly, the master is below and Miss Shi is above.
Miss Shi is awesome!
Shi Xi heard the door close, but couldn't see who closed it. It must have been the wind that slammed it shut!
"Di Chenxiao, put me down! If you don't let go, I'm going to bite you! I'm really going to bite you!"
Her upper and lower teeth were chattering, making a clanging sound.
Fearing he might really anger the girl, Di Chenxiao let go of her. As soon as Shi Xi saw him loosen his arms, she immediately rolled off him.
"Xixi, Dijiu must have come to invite us to dinner. You go ahead and eat, I'll be down in a bit."
Di Chenxiao took a corner of the blanket and covered the area below his chest and above his calves.
"The Emperor's Wine just arrived? How come I didn't know?"
"You only looked towards the door after the Emperor Wine was closed, so your view was blocked by the door, and of course you couldn't see the Emperor Wine."
His voice was no longer as cold as before, nor as gentle as it was in front of Shi Xi; it contained more affection.
