Chapter 136 Surrounded by Wolves

Having no other choice, Old Man Chen tiptoed out of his house.

It was pitch black outside, and he walked unsteadily toward the Wu family's old house.

Suddenly he heard a commotion, and then he saw more than ten people carrying torches walking toward him.

Old Chen was already feeling guilty, and he immediately trembled with fright. He slipped and fell to the ground, wincing in pain.

Wu Baoan had already seen Old Man Chen. When he saw him suddenly fall, he quickly ran over and helped him up.

"Uncle Zhonghou, what are you doing wandering around so late at night instead of sleeping? What if you fall and get seriously injured? What will you do then?"

Old Man Chen cursed Old Woman Chen in his heart, saying that she was too greedy and made him steal beets, which almost killed him.

He didn't know how to explain for a moment, so he hurriedly said something against his conscience.

"Security guards, I heard that Da Bao went to Wolf Valley, and I'm really worried about him, so I want to go with you to look for him."

Before Wu Baoan could speak, Old Man Chen, feeling guilty and worried that his theft of the beets was about to be exposed, quickly spoke up again.

“Da Bao is my own grandson, so I should do my part. Besides, I went to Wild Wolf Valley once when I was young, so I can show you the way.”

Wu Baoan nodded. "Alright, it's kind of you to do this, let's go!"

Old Chen was almost petrified on the spot. He was just saying it casually, and he thought that Wu Baoan would refuse him because he was too old. He never expected that Wu Baoan would be so ruthless.

Going to Wolf Valley in this pitch black is really too much for his old arms and legs; it's practically going to kill him!

But the fart had already been uttered, and there was no going back. He had no choice but to bite the bullet and follow Wu Baoan toward Wolf Valley.

Chen Qingqing chased after him all the way, but when she arrived at Wild Wolf Valley, she still couldn't find Chen Zhanliang.

He must have been worried about Da Bao's safety, so he walked fast and it's normal that he couldn't catch up.

Looking at the Wolf Valley so close at hand, Chen Qingqing was truly terrified.

But thinking of Chen Zhanliang and Chen Dabao, she steeled her heart, mustered her courage, and headed deeper into Wolf Valley.

It was pitch black all around, and the eerie howls of wolves echoed from afar.

After walking for an unknown distance, Chen Qingqing vaguely saw a dark shadow wriggling under a large tree not far ahead.

Startled, she instinctively slowed her pace, nervously gripping the torch, and cautiously moved forward.

By the dim light of the torch, Chen Qingqing finally saw clearly that the dark figure was Chen Dabao.

He was seen huddled under the tree, shivering, his hands covering his head.

Chen Qingqing quickly stepped forward. "Dabao, it really is you! I've finally found you! Get up, I'll take you home." She then tried to help Dabao up.

Chen Dabao slowly opened his eyes, saw Chen Qingqing, and weakly called out, "Sister Qingqing..." before fainting.

"Da Bao, Da Bao, wake up." Chen Qingqing saw that his face was pale and his breath was weak. She noticed that there was blood coming out of his calf. Upon closer inspection, she realized that he had been injured by a poisonous insect. She was secretly glad that she had come in time, otherwise the venom would have spread and damaged his internal organs, which would have been dangerous.

She took out a special medicine for treating poisonous insect bites from her space, cleaned the wound, and after completing the emergency treatment, gave Da Bao the antidote.

Not long after, Chen Dabao slowly woke up, tears welling in his eyes. "Sister Qingqing, thank you for saving me. I thought I was going to die here today. It's all my fault for acting impulsively..."

Seeing that he had regained consciousness, Chen Qingqing breathed a sigh of relief. "Dabao, now is not the time to talk about these things. We must leave Wolf Valley as soon as possible. How are you feeling now? Can you walk?"

"Yes, I feel much better now, I can walk by myself."

"That's good. Let me help you up."

After Chen Qingqing finished speaking, she pulled Chen Dabao up and walked towards the outside of the mountain.

They hadn't gone far when they heard a series of wolf howls coming from afar, growing louder as they approached.

"Oh no, it's a pack of wolves!" Chen Qingqing alertly pricked up her ears and looked around with a torch in hand.

Chen Dabao was so frightened that his whole body trembled, and his hair stood on end. Despite his fear, he still found two large stones on the ground and held them in his hands.

Before long, the sound of the wolf pack grew closer and closer. By the light of the torches, they saw pairs of eerie green eyes emerging from the surrounding grass, closing in on them from all directions.

Chen Qingqing gasped. The wolves clearly saw them as prey, and she had to come up with a plan to escape. She kept waving the torch in her hand.

The wolves, fearing the firelight, dared not approach easily, hiding in the grass and waiting for an opportunity to strike.

Time passed second by second, and after an unknown amount of time, a low growl suddenly came from the air.

As if given a command, the wolves lowered their heads, moved slowly forward with light steps, and stared intently at the two with eerie glowing eyes, gradually approaching.

Chen Qingqing's heart clenched instantly, and a chill ran down her spine.

Without giving her a chance to think, she quickly took out a torch from her spatial storage, lit it, and handed it to Chen Dabao, saying, "Take this, wolves are afraid of fire."

Chen Dabao had never seen anything like this before and was already terrified. Hearing Chen Qingqing say this, he quickly dropped the stone he was holding, took the torch, and said in a trembling voice, "Sister Qingqing, are we going to be eaten by wolves?"

Chen Qingqing tried to calm herself down. She knew that the wolf pack would never give up their prey easily. The only way now was to scare them away with the firelight and then take the opportunity to leave.

"Don't be afraid, Da Bao. As long as we have torches, they won't dare to come close easily. Let's walk forward back to back."

Chen Dabao's legs were trembling so badly he couldn't take a step. He was so scared that tears were about to stream down his face, and his voice was trembling with sobs. "Sister Qingqing, it's all my fault. You have to leave quickly. I'll hold off these beasts."

"Stop talking such discouraging things. Listen to me, hurry up and come with me, or we'll both end up in the wolf's belly." Chen Qingqing was both anxious and angry. Taking advantage of the moment when the wolf pack retreated, she grabbed him and ran.

The light of the flames temporarily frightened the wolves, but they would not give up easily. Seeing that Chen Qingqing and the others were about to run away, the lead wolf howled to the sky, and the wolves from all sides quickly surrounded them again.

In the darkness, it was impossible to see how many wolves there were; all that could be seen were pairs of eerie green eyes all around.

Chen Qingqing couldn't help but shudder. Was she really going to die in the wolf's belly today?

No, we must fight these beasts to the bitter end.

Thinking of this, she kept waving the torch in her hand, trying to drive away the wolves.

Wolves are cunning by nature. Although they had no intention of attacking, they also showed no sign of leaving. Their eyes were filled with calmness and patience as they watched from afar, waiting for their chance.

They remained locked in a standoff...
