Chapter 271 Smashing the Cabinet

Just then, a scream startled Ru Hua, causing her to nearly drop the bowl and chopsticks from her hands.

Looking up, he saw Liu Fengjiao and smiled sheepishly, "So it's you, sister. You gave me quite a fright."

Seeing her silly expression, Liu Fengjiao curled her lips, a hint of disgust flashing in her eyes, but in an instant, her face was filled with a smile.

"Ru Hua, what are you busy with?"

Ru Hua, with an overly familiar demeanor, smiled and said...

"Sister, our husband is hungry. He asked me to get him something to eat."

But when I came over, all I saw were cornbread and thin porridge. Even a dog wouldn't eat that stuff, so how could I feed it to my husband?

So I decided to cook something nice, fry some eggs, steam some egg custard, and make some egg drop soup, to nourish my husband.

"I didn't know you could cook."

As Liu Fengjiao was speaking, she inadvertently noticed the bamboo basket on the ground and quickly asked,

"Ruhua, where are the eggs in here?"

“They’re all right here!” Ru Hua pointed to the eggshells on the ground. “The steamed egg custard in the pot is almost ready. We just need to fry an egg and make an egg drop soup.”

Seeing that the whole basket of eggs had been eaten, Liu Fengjiao looked smug. If her mother-in-law found out, she would skin this ugly woman alive!

Thinking of this, Liu Fengjiao couldn't help but raise her voice.

"Ru Hua, Ru Hua, how can you live like this? You ate a whole basket of eggs in one meal! You're such a spendthrift!"

"Sister, what are you saying? This is all for our husband, it didn't end up in a dog's stomach, how can you call it wasteful!"

"Yes, yes, you're right." Liu Fengjiao lowered her head, rubbed her forehead, and shook her head repeatedly. How did she end up with such a stupid thing? Was Chen Zhancai blind?

Just then, Old Mrs. Chen, who was inside the house, heard Liu Fengjiao's shout and rushed to the kitchen. "What's wrong, Fengjiao?"

"Mother, you've come at the right time! See for yourself!" Liu Fengjiao crossed her arms, her eyes full of schadenfreude as she watched the show.

The sight before her eyes nearly made Old Mrs. Chen's jaw drop, and she blurted out, "My eggs!"

"Ruhua, what are you trying to do?" Old Man Chen, who was following closely behind, was so angry that his face turned green.

Ru Hua was taken aback at first, then grinned and said, "Father, Mother, you're here."

"What are you doing?" Old Chen asked, pointing to the ground.

Ru Hua glanced down at the eggshells, then looked at Old Man Chen. "Dad, are your eyesight failing? Can't you see I'm cooking? It's too messy here, go outside and wait. Your daughter-in-law will cook you a couple of eggs to nourish your body."

"Oh my goodness, what kind of talk is that! Old woman, you should tell your good daughter-in-law!" Old Chen shook his head and turned to leave.

It took Old Mrs. Chen a while to recover her senses. She was so anxious that she jumped up and down on the spot, "Ruhua, why did you use so many eggs to cook a meal?"

Ru Hua laughed dismissively. Back in Chunfeng Tower, even though she had no customers, she still ate white flour buns. But now, this whole family is making a fuss over a few eggs. They've really never seen anything like it.

She grinned widely and said, "Mom, what are you doing? I just wanted to help your son get some nourishment. What, you don't agree?"

"Oh my god, it's not that I disagree, it's just that we're a small family, and you have to be careful with your money!"

After Old Mrs. Chen finished speaking, she suddenly remembered something, and her mouth dropped open in surprise.

"Ru Hua, where did you find the egg?"

Hearing her ask that, Ru Hua couldn't help but laugh.

"Mother, you don't know, I just looked all over here and only found a few cornbread buns."

At the time, I thought to myself, my husband is a scholar, how could he eat something even a dog wouldn't eat?

So I searched the whole house and suddenly found a cabinet in the corner.

No need to guess, even a fool could see it was full of food. I just wanted to open it and see.

But some idiot actually locked it.

I won't tolerate that. I'll just find a rock and smash it open.

To everyone's surprise, there was only a basket of eggs inside.

The daughter-in-law had a brilliant idea: she planned to prepare an egg feast for your son.

"You and Dad will have a taste later."

Old Mrs. Chen was so angry she almost fainted. Her finger trembled as she pointed at Ruhua, "You, you... those were dozens of eggs! How could you, you silly child, eat them all at once? This is going to kill your mother!"

"Mother, don't be angry. Ruhua meant well."

Liu Fengjiao, never one to shy away from a good spectacle, started making sarcastic remarks from the sidelines.

“Ruhua, this is wrong of you. You wanted to open the cabinet, how could you break it open without asking your mother? This is disrespectful to your elders. Quickly apologize to your mother.”

Ru Hua looked surprised. "Sister, what do you mean? Are you saying that the idiot who locked the cabinet was done by Mother?"

"Oh, my dear sister, I never said that Mother is stupid, don't try to pin this on me."

"Mom, no way!" Ruhua stared wide-eyed at Old Lady Chen. "You put that lock on?"

Old Mrs. Chen said irritably, "I locked it."

"Oh dear, my good mother-in-law, there's nothing precious in there, why did you lock it up? You're just being nosy!"

These words made Old Mrs. Chen tremble with anger. She really wanted to act like a proper mother-in-law and give Ruhua a good scolding.

But looking at Ru Hua's burly figure and her silly, goofy appearance, I couldn't help but feel intimidated.

If I were to act foolishly and beat her up without thinking, what difference would it make?

Fine, let him curse a bit. Who told his son to marry such a fool!

She shook her head and sighed, "Ruhua, Ruhua, you really are my nemesis!"

Ru Hua put down her chopsticks and walked over to Old Lady Chen, taking her arm and acting coquettishly.

"My dear mother-in-law, we're not enemies, we're just not on good terms. I'll definitely take good care of you from now on, so just wait and enjoy your retirement!"

Grandma Chen was on the verge of tears, and waved her hand weakly, "Fengjiao, let's go. Let her do whatever she wants. Anyway, there are only a few eggs left. Once she finishes them, she'll give up on her idea."

As the two left the kitchen, Liu Fengjiao whispered a word of advice.

“Mother, don’t be angry. After all, Ruhua came from that kind of place. Think about it, there’s no shortage of food or clothing there. Ruhua has no idea how difficult life is. So, don’t be angry. We’ll teach her slowly in the future.”

The way Liu Fengjiao spoke, whether opening or closing her mouth, was deliberately meant to remind Old Lady Chen.

Ru Hua came from a brothel and couldn't endure hardship. Sooner or later, she would have to leave. Liu Fengjiao would still be the one to live her life.

Grandma Chen shook her head helplessly. "My good daughter-in-law, you've really had a hard time. I don't know if Zhancai is blind or heartless. Why didn't he cherish such a good wife like you and bring back this silly girl who's an eyesore?"

"Mother, Zhancai is just a passing fancy. Once the novelty wears off, you'll know who's better."

"Sigh... I hope so!" Old Mrs. Chen said as she returned to the side room. She needed to tidy up and open the windows to let in some fresh air, otherwise she wouldn't be able to stay up all night...
