Da Longzi felt he was on the verge of collapse. He struggled to break free from Old Lady Chen's grasp and shouted at the top of his lungs.
"Auntie, let go!"
Old Mrs. Chen tightened her grip on Da Longzi, her face full of reproach.
"What are you yelling about, kid? Did your butt get burned? You scared me half to death!"
Da Longzi squeezed his legs together, trying hard to hold it in, his face contorted. "Good auntie, let go, I really can't hold it in any longer."
Grandma Chen thought he just didn't want to talk to her and was trying to find an excuse to leave. "What's wrong? Can't hold it in anymore?"
Da Longzi's face turned pale with pain, alternating between red and white. The more anxious he became, the faster his anus contracted.
With a 'plop' sound, the messy stuff inside her broke free of its restraints and gushed out.
Immediately afterward, a foul stench assaulted her nostrils. Old Mrs. Chen released Da Longzi, covered her nose with one hand, and fanned herself vigorously with the other, her face full of disgust.
"Oh dear, are you stupid? You need to pee, why aren't you in the toilet? What nonsense are you spouting at me? It's disgusting."
Da Longzi suppressed the urge to hit someone, gritted his teeth and squeezed out a sentence, "Is it that I don't want to go? It's you who's holding onto me and won't let go!"
After saying that, he spread his legs and turned to walk home, shouting loudly, "Wife, hurry up and find me a pair of pants!"
Old Mrs. Chen spat on the ground as she watched his retreating figure. "What a spineless wretch! He's such a grown man, how can he still poop in his pants? It's disgusting!"
After saying that, he went straight to the village entrance, where he saw several women chatting idly. He quickly walked over to them.
"Oh, everyone's here! I haven't seen you all for days."
Upon hearing this, everyone rolled their eyes.
“We’re so busy all day long, we have to earn money to support our families, unlike you, who have a good son and don’t have to worry about making a living.”
"Exactly, we're so busy we're practically dead, how can we compare to you, a big idle person? We're just stealing a moment of leisure from our busy schedules."
"Yes, I haven't seen the scholar's wife for a few days, she seems to have gained weight."
Hearing what everyone said, Old Mrs. Chen was so happy that her mouth almost stretched to her ears, and she subconsciously touched her face.
"Really? But I have been able to eat a lot these days. Before, I couldn't even finish a whole cornbread bun, but ever since my third son bought a bag of rice, my appetite has increased a lot. I eat two big bowls of rice every meal."
Do you know what rice is? I bet you've never eaten it before. It smells amazing, and the texture is soft and sticky, as sweet as honey.
"Tell me, how can people not gain weight if they eat such refined grains every day?"
Seeing her showing off again, everyone grimaced, feeling extremely disgusted, but they said nothing.
"Scholar's wife, it's all thanks to you for giving birth to such a fine son. You'll be enjoying a life of luxury from now on!"
"Your son Zhancai is a top scholar. If he passes the imperial examination in the future, you will become an official family. You will be waited on hand and foot, with people serving you every time you go out. You won't have to do anything all day. It will be hard for you not to get fat."
Old Mrs. Chen found these words quite pleasing to the ear, and was overjoyed. She couldn't help but boast again.
“You’re right. That’s why they say, ‘Even when you’re poor, you shouldn’t abandon your books; even when you’re rich, you shouldn’t abandon your pigs!’”
As the saying goes, "If you want to be prominent in public, you must suffer in private."
Back then, my family sold everything we owned to support my parents' education. We were truly struggling to make ends meet, constantly borrowing from Peter to pay Paul, hoping for the next meal.
Back then, so many people laughed at my family, thinking it wasn't worth spending so much money on my son's education.
But I ignored all the gossip; I was convinced my third son would amount to something.
My third son is truly remarkable; after more than ten years of taking the imperial examinations, he finally passed and became a top scholar.
"Look, I'm going to Ningjing soon for the autumn imperial examination. It won't be long before I pass with flying colors! You all have to come to my house for my celebratory feast!"
"That's a must. We have to go even without you saying so."
"That's right, that's right, this is a very happy occasion, we should definitely go and share in the joy."
......
The crowd casually echoed a few words, but inwardly they scoffed, "Keep bragging! If you get too carried away, you'll get a face full of shit from a cow's ass!"
Don't you even have a brain like your spendthrift son?
Old Mrs. Chen felt that everyone envied her, and she became even more excited, gesturing wildly and spitting everywhere.
Just as they were getting into the conversation, someone called out from behind them.
"Old woman, hurry home."
Old Mrs. Chen's mood was interrupted, and she immediately slumped her face, turning around impatiently to glare at Old Mr. Chen.
"Why are you going home? Can't you see I'm talking to you?"
"Zhan Cai is awake and looking for you!"
"If you're awake, you're awake. Why are you looking for me?" Old Mrs. Chen wondered. These days, her son wouldn't get up until the sun was high in the sky. Why was he up so early today?
Old Chen shook his head. "How would I know? He got up and told Ruhua to look for you. I told him you went out for a walk and told him to hurry back. Hurry back, otherwise Ruhua will come out looking for you too."
"Alright, alright, I understand." Old Mrs. Chen waved her hand at the women, still somewhat reluctant to leave. "You all stay here for a bit, I'll go back and check on things, I'll be right back."
"Alright, Auntie, you go ahead and get busy!"
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief as they watched Old Mrs. Chen's departing figure.
"Oh my god, this chatterbox is finally gone. Otherwise, she would have gone on and on about all the old tidbits. Listening to her talk gave me a headache."
"Absolutely. He keeps going back and forth about his son's messy affairs. I'm sick of hearing about it."
"Her son only passed the imperial examination and became a poor scholar. What's so great about that? Why is she so ostentatious? Doesn't she get tired of showing off?"
"You're wrong about that. He has the capital to be proud. If his son really does well enough to pass the imperial examination, he'll be like a chicken turning into a golden phoenix. He'll really stand out."
"Pah! It's not that I'm looking down on Chen Zhancai, but he looks like a spendthrift. He'll be lucky to pass the county-level exam and become a scholar."
"That's right. If God had any eyes, He wouldn't have let him pass the exam. Now he's nothing but a nobody, and he's already getting cocky. If he really became an official, he'd be so arrogant!"
"Don't worry, scholars are supposed to study hard, burning the midnight oil and rising at dawn. But look at Chen Zhancai, he's so lazy he's practically crawling with maggots. He doesn't get up until the sun is high in the sky. What kind of future can he have?"
"Yes, yes, you're right. That kind of dog will never become a human being. It's already past noon and he's still lazing around in bed, dreaming of passing the imperial examinations. He's dreaming."
Erdanzi squeezed in at some point, and joined in with a gossipy look on his face.
"You wouldn't believe it, I just went to borrow a sickle from Old Chen, and guess what I saw?"
"What did you see? You didn't see Chen Zhancai and his two wives flying around like that, did you?!"
