Chapter 414 Catching the Caught in the Act

"Don't rush, let me catch my breath, my stomach is cramping."

After a while, Liang Fugui's tension eased slightly. He was somewhat puzzled.

That's impossible. How could they know what was going on? They must have been too nervous and were hallucinating.

Yes, that must be it.

Unwilling to return empty-handed, he breathed a sigh of relief and said, "Come on, let's go in together this time."

Erdanzi's eyes widened in disbelief. "You still want to go in? Isn't that just asking for death?!"

"Stop talking nonsense. We must have been too scared and imagined it just now. If there really were someone here, I would have backed down without you having to tell me."

“This, this, this…”

"What? You idiot, think about it carefully. If there really were someone inside, why would they make a sound when they saw a thief? We must have misheard."

Liang Fugui was absolutely certain that no one was inside. If it were his house that had been broken into, he would not have made a sound and would have caught the thief red-handed.

Erdanzi dared not disobey, so he climbed up again and listened intently for a while. The whole courtyard was quiet, with only the sound of the wind in his ears.

Liang Fugui carefully climbed up as well. He glared at Erdanzi and said, "You're just scaring yourself. Nobody's talking to you."

"Maybe I was too nervous and misheard."

"Hurry up and get down there, lead the way."

"Okay, fine, but if you still can't find the secret recipe, you can't come looking for trouble with me again."

"Shut up, or I'll send you to meet the King of Hell."

After Liang Fugui finished speaking, the two of them jumped down one after the other.

Because the wall was too high, they both fell flat on their backs.

"Ouch, that hurts so much!" Liang Fugui stood up, clutching his backside, and muttered a curse under his breath, "They're really burning money! Why did they build such a high wall?"

Erdanzi felt a surge of satisfaction. Serves you right! Why didn't you just fall and die?

What a despicable person! You even have the nerve to complain about how high the wall is? It's good that it's high, precisely to keep out petty people like you...

Seeing that he was lying motionless on the ground, Liang Fugui cursed in a low voice, "If you're not dead, get up quickly."

"Brother, wait a minute, let me catch my breath, I think I've hurt my back."

"You're as stupid as a pig."

No sooner had Liang Fugui finished speaking than a sharp shout rang out, "Don't move! Or don't blame me for being impolite!"

That shout almost sent Liang Fugui flying; he stood there dumbfounded.

Erdanzi's heart skipped a beat, almost leaping out of his throat.

Oh no, we've been caught!

Feeling wronged, he couldn't help but complain.

"I told you someone was talking, but you wouldn't listen. Now look what happened, you've been caught!"

"Stop talking nonsense and run!" Liang Fugui regained his senses, turned around, and started climbing the wall by pushing off with his hands and feet.

Seeing that they were about to run away, Chen Dabao, who was hiding in the shadows, raised his crossbow and shot at them.

With a 'snap', they looked up by the moonlight and saw an arrow had struck the wall. Startled, the two men simultaneously fell to the ground.

They watched in horror as Da Bao and Chen Qingqing, carrying a lantern, approached.

Da Bao sneered disdainfully, "Behave yourselves, or my bow and arrows will have no eyes."

Erdanzi quickly raised his hands, "No, don't shoot the arrow, it's me, it's me, Erdanzi, I won't move."

Chen Qingqing glared at the two men and shouted angrily, "What do you want to do by climbing over the wall and breaking into a private house in the middle of the night?"

Liang Fugui's mind raced as he tried to come up with an excuse to get away with it. "Qing girl, it's a misunderstanding. We...we just drank too much and wandered into the wrong place. We thought this was a friend's house."

"Yes, yes, we both drank too much," Erdanzi quickly chimed in.

"Drunk? Drunk enough to climb over a wall?"

Chen Qingqing frowned, not wanting to waste words with them. "Dabao, tie them up first, then go and invite the village head over."

"Okay, I'll go right away."

Da Bao tied the two of them up tightly, then turned around to find Wu Baoan.

Upon hearing this, Erdanzi's heart skipped a beat. "No, no, no, don't go and ask Security Guard Wu to come over. I, we were just joking!"

"Yes, yes, Erdanzi and I were just playing around, seeing who could climb over your wall, but we didn't expect to fall down without noticing. We really didn't mean to come to your house." Liang Fugui was also scared and hurriedly made up a bunch of lies.

Chen Qingqing scoffed, "Are you kidding me? Do you think I'm a three-year-old? You can wait and say that to the officials!"

******

Before long, Wu Baoan rushed over, "What happened, Qing girl? I heard there was a thief at the sugar shop?"

Chen Qingqing nodded, "Yes, security guard, we caught two thieves who tried to steal something."

"Where is the thief? I want to see what he looks like. He's incredibly audacious and must be handed over to the authorities for severe punishment!"

“Just the two of them.” Chen Qingqing pointed to Liang Fugui and Erdanzi, who were squatting to the side.

Wu Baoan stepped forward, held up the lantern, and was immediately surprised. "It's the two of you!"

Erdanzi panicked and burst into tears, "Village head, you have to stand up for me! It was Liang Fugui who forced me to come here with a kitchen knife..."

"Shut up!" Wu Baoan had initially thought they were thieves from outside the village, but to his surprise, they were villagers. He was furious. "Look what you two have done!"

Liang Fugui recovered from his panic and quickly begged for mercy, "Village head, spare us! I was momentarily blinded by greed and committed a terrible mistake. We were caught as soon as we came in, and we didn't do anything. Please don't send us to the authorities!"
