Chapter 78 Assassination of Party Secretary Ji

"Secretary Ji of the Municipal Party Committee."

Nightingale's eyes widened in an instant, and she exclaimed, "You mean...?"

Nightingale didn't say the rest aloud, but both of them knew that getting rid of Secretary Ji would indeed appease the higher-ups, which might be a good opportunity for them.

Nightingale's expression finally softened, but then her face darkened again as she stared intently at the blind man, saying coldly, "Our identities are already sensitive. Without a letter of proof, how are we supposed to assassinate Party Secretary Ji?"

Faced with Nightingale's anger, the blind man chuckled and pointed to the ground: "Don't be anxious, Nightingale. Party Secretary Ji is right here, very close to us."

Nightingale became irritated upon hearing this, raised her fist and punched the blind man's displeasing face a few times, cursing, "Damn it, I hate people who beat around the bush the most, especially someone like you who makes me guess what you're saying, you're asking for a beating!"

"ah!"

The blind man covered his face, immediately dropping his grin. He tasted rust in his mouth, spat out a mouthful of bloody saliva, and then said weakly, "I heard that Party Secretary Ji came here with the archaeological team. The latest news is that he's in the administrative office."

After saying that, he carefully touched the wound on his face and immediately grimaced in pain. This woman's temper was too volatile. He wondered which unlucky guy would marry her in the future.

The nightingale had no idea what the blind man was thinking about her; otherwise, she would have broken his legs.

After receiving confirmation, the two split up. The blind man went to inform his subordinates to ambush the city party secretary on his usual route, while Nightingale picked up her concealed weapon, a sniper rifle, and found an excellent vantage point to begin sniping.

With everything prepared, everyone waited quietly for the target to appear.

As Xu Qingqing rode her bicycle, she kept thinking about it and felt increasingly cheated. Her face gradually turned sour. With a grumpy expression, she rode to the supply and marketing cooperative and bought half a pound of hard candy. She stuffed a piece in her mouth and savored the sweet taste, but the depression in her heart did not subside at all.

He gritted his teeth and swallowed the grievances, but still couldn't suppress them. He turned the bike around and pedaled like a whirlwind towards the administration hall, the chain sparking all the way as he finally reached his destination.

Then came the harsh truth: Party Secretary Ji had already set off to return home.

Like a bolt from the blue, a bolt of lightning struck Xu Qingqing. Secretary Lin vaguely felt as if he saw a small black figure, but he quickly shook off the terrible hallucination in his mind. He must not have rested well these past few days, so his brain started to hallucinate.

Thinking about it this way, Secretary Lin felt a little better, and then slowly drank the boiled water.

Xu Qingqing snapped out of her daze, calculated the time and distance, and figured that if she pedaled fast, she should be able to catch up with Secretary Ji. She turned around, pushed open the door blocking her way, and ran out.

The door, after being violently opened by Xu Qingqing, emitted a huge protest sound, which frightened Secretary Lin so much that he swallowed a large mouthful of water. He clutched his neck with both hands and momentarily forgot whether to spit it out or swallow it, his mind going completely blank.

Xu Qingqing rode her bicycle, ringing the bell incessantly, dodging pedestrians along the way. Several times she nearly bumped into children playing by the roadside, drawing angry stares from others.

Nightingale saw a black sedan appear, immediately used the binoculars on her sniper rifle to check, and after clearly identifying the target, she slightly curled the corner of her mouth, made a hand gesture to the opposite side, and then began to aim at Secretary Ji, slowly pulling the trigger.

"Aaaaah—, driver in front, stop right there!"

Xu Qingqing saw the black sedan in front of her, gritted her teeth and shouted, speeding up to rush in front of the car.

Inside the car, Party Secretary Ji was resting with his eyes closed. Xiao Wu, sitting in the passenger seat, was listening intently. He then asked Xiao Yan, who was in the driver's seat, with a puzzled look, "Hey, I think I heard someone outside telling us to stop the car. Did you hear that?"

Xiao Yan rolled her eyes upon hearing this: "You're hallucinating. I didn't hear anything."

Xiao Wu wondered if he was really hallucinating.

He leaned to the side and pressed his ear against the window, vaguely hearing someone tell them to stop. He became uncertain again and muttered to himself, "Could it be that there's something wrong with my ears? Why does this voice sound so familiar? It's like I've heard it somewhere before."

"Stop thinking about it. We'll know once you get your ears checked." Xiao Yan interrupted Xiao Wu's wild thoughts, her eyes fixed straight ahead.

Xu Qingqing looked at the black sedan not far away, which kept driving and did not hear her shouting behind her at all. She gritted her teeth and sped up. The bicycle chain was almost broken before she finally caught up and knocked on the passenger window.

Hearing the noise, Xiao Wu turned his head to look out the car window and was startled to see Xu Qingqing's angry expression outside. He quickly told Xiao Yan to stop the car.

Xiao Wu frowned, but still parked the car on the side of the road.

Party Secretary Ji opened his eyes, looked at Xu Qingqing, saw her park the car to the side, open the door and get in, let out a heavy breath, and then glared at him fiercely.

The municipal party secretary, Ji, chuckled: "Are you in a bad mood and came here specifically to find me?"

Xu Qingqing nodded, her throat so dry she could barely speak. She gestured angrily with her hands, confirming that she had come to see him. Then she began to demonstrate the purpose of her visit.

Secretary Ji chuckled inwardly. At this moment, Xu Qingqing looked exactly like the old general when he was young. Back then, the old general had a fiery temper and dared to talk back to even his superiors. At that time, the old general was just a regimental commander, and he was the old general's police officer. Anyone who angered the old general would be retaliated against by the old general within three days at most.

He also witnessed someone plotting against the old general, trying to force him to make a mistake so that he could be removed from his position. As a result, the old general secretly beat him up several times, and managed to prevent the other party from finding any evidence to prove that he was the one who beat him up. In the end, the other party could only leave in disgrace, and was beaten up again before leaving. From then on, he dared not lay a hand on the old general again.

After Xu Qingqing finished gesturing, she saw that Secretary Ji was actually daydreaming, and she immediately got angry. Well done, really well done! She had worked so hard to gesture the meaning, but the other party hadn't even looked at a word of it. Her eyes were blazing with anger. She took out a piece of candy and stuffed it into her mouth to soothe her dry and sore throat. After a while, she felt a little better.

"Secretary Ji, did you understand what I just gestured? Do you need me to repeat it?"

When Secretary Ji came to his senses, he saw Xu Qingqing staring at him fiercely, her cheeks puffed out as she waited for his reply. He couldn't help but chuckle: "You came all this way just to get me to agree to help you apply for that car?"

"Yes, yes! I've helped you so much, it's not unreasonable for me to give you a car in return!"
