The mountain forest was thick with fog in the early morning. Sunlight passed through the gaps between dust and water molecules, passing through cautiously and falling on the ground or on their bodies.
The big monk said that the Japanese army behind them would catch up with them in one hour, but they still had half an hour to go. Shuoyu walked faster and faster, thinking of going back quickly. He missed the Jiqipo a little bit. Fanla still felt that these big reds had bad intentions, so he chose to keep his distance.
He didn't care about death, he just wanted to go back quickly, or kill a few more devils. He kept adjusting the formation of Shuoyu and the others to ensure that no matter what sudden situation happened, they could respond immediately. The forest was getting denser and denser, and Shuoyu really believed that this road was the hunting road that hunters used to take.
In just a short while, he saw many animals that he could only see on mobile phones in modern times. However, they ran away very far away from their team. It seemed that their enemies had no intention of destroying them, so the first reaction of these animals when they saw them was to run away.
In this fog, Shuoyu felt as if he had returned to the jungles of Burma. This reminded him of some not-so-good memories, so he began to listen carefully to the birdsong in the forest to see if there was an unexpected cuckoo, but he heard nothing except the noisy cicadas.
Fanla's parents were driven to the back of the team, which made the old man look a little panicked. Fanla's mother just wanted to take a good look at her son, but her son obviously didn't want to let her look at him.
Someone else wants to be the vanguard, so they ordered Yao Ma and Sang Men Xing, who they usually do. But Li Liang came over with a gun and said he also wanted to be the vanguard, which was opposed by the old cannon fodder, including Yao Ma who looked unlucky just now.
"You idiot, do you even know what it means to be a vanguard?"
"I'm not a kid anymore. I know what that means."
Shuo Yu gave this guy a thumbs up, not bad, quite courageous,
"I see you have a rather squishy head, kid. A frontline soldier is one who uses his head to hit the bullet, you know?"
"I know, I'm going to do it!" Li Liang was very determined. He knew what it meant to be a vanguard, and he was not afraid.
A voice spoke after he finished speaking.
"Today, the young master will also be the vanguard!"
This was the first time Fanla asked to be the vanguard. In the past, the young master always tricked others into ordering mud eggs, Manchu heads, or other cannon fodder that Shuoyu couldn't name to be the vanguard.
The old gun fodders feel fresh and new, and this annoying little guy is also going to be the vanguard. Bu La said that the sun must rise from the west today.
Shuo Yu approached Fanla, curious as to why this guy, who hadn't eaten anything, started talking nonsense. He looked at his face, but Fanla's eyes were looking at his parents at the back of the team.
"I'm tired, have you changed your personality?"
"Stop talking nonsense, the young master is going to be the vanguard today!" Fanla said firmly, lowering his head and fiddling with his fingers.
Well, neither of these two guys can be persuaded, they both want to be the vanguard, Si La said that Fan La was the champion of Jiqipo, and he couldn't be moved, and the guerrilla leader said that Xiao Yugong was the most educated person among them, and he couldn't be persuaded,
Shuo Yu watched as the two men were given two sets of clothes that Si La Si La had taken from the dead Japanese soldiers and put them on. If you didn't look carefully, you really couldn't tell the difference between them and the Japanese soldiers they met. Just like that, the two of them really became the vanguards.
Before leaving, Shuo Yu handed a whistle to Fanla, which was given to him by their leader before, because he knew that Fanla could not speak Japanese. If he encountered anything wrong, blowing this whistle might be of some use.
In fact, he was not sure, but it was better to bring it than not to bring it.
Fanla looked at the light above his head, at the crudely made whistle in his hand that could only be used to play with children, and asked,
"What is this, Banxianer?"
"Anyway, if you meet the Japs and don't know what to say, just blow this." Shuo Yu didn't know how to explain it. Every time he came to the west bank at night, he would blow this whistle a few times. Then he basically wouldn't see any Japs in the trenches. Occasionally, a few unlucky guys would run into him, and they couldn't help but blame him for not saying hello in advance.
"Is there a poison needle or hidden weapon in here?" Fanla wondered, staring at the mouth of the whistle with his small eyes, wondering if there was any secret inside. But it was just an ordinary whistle. If there was anything special about it, it was that its sound was particularly unpleasant, an unpleasant sound that you would never forget after hearing it once.
"What nonsense are you talking about? Hurry up and go. Aren't you going to be the vanguard? Take good care of little Yugong." Shuo Yu pushed him and told him to go quickly and not to dawdle.
"Understood, Elder Tang."
Two fellow villagers from Peking, dressed in full Japanese soldier uniforms, wearing Japanese helmets, and holding Type 38 pistols in their hands, became the vanguard of Shuoyu and his group. They said that this was called "cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party, one on each side."
Fanla didn't know how to do it, nor did he want to admit that he was from Beijing, so he didn't want the little bookworm to find out that he was also from Beijing. He said he was from Tokyo, and spoke a few words of Japanese that he had heard from others, and then he talked nonsense with the little bookworm. Whether it was intentional or not, he always avoided talking to the little bookworm.
"I envy you, really. You have so many books at home. You must have read more than me. And you've fought for five years. You're an old soldier. I really envy you."
