Chapter 131 Mr. Good Habit

McLuhan and Silasila laughed at each other, loudly, as if no one was around.

"You are a liaison officer who can speak Chinese!" Si La Si La quickly followed up and shouted,

"That's hilarious, isn't it? Those are my colleagues who thought they could blow up Nantianmen with the air force alone. I've been your liaison officer since the last battle, being chased down like a drowning dog."

McLuhan's expression suddenly became serious. He grabbed one of Deadman's arms and looked into his eyes, which were as restless as his dog's.

"Ha, you can't speak Chinese? Hahahaha! It's so funny. The young man looked like he was about to get angry again, 'Why don't you say you know Chinese? You should know the difference between Let/s go and a scabby dog.'"

Shuoyu pulled Fanla's half body over and whispered to him that this American imitated him very well. He also wanted to laugh.

McLuhan explained why he pretended not to understand Chinese, pointed at Shuoyu and Meng Fanle, and looked at their leader.

"I can figure it out, but I have the right to watch the entire drama, and I also have the right to hear what you don't want to tell me. Captain, you have two very good translators, but one thinks too much, and the other is too soft-hearted."

McLuhan and their leader looked at each other as if they were about to engage in a heated debate.

"You have the right, of course you have the right. You understand everything, so what can't you help with?" Silasila smiled. He was very confident in his ability to speak Chinese. As long as the other party could understand Chinese,

"Let's not worry about the odds and ends."

McLuhan clapped his hands at their leader three times, which made people feel that there was a strange meaning. Shuoyu's hand never let go of the corner of their leader's clothes. He even wanted Fanla to try to grab it too, so that he would stop shaking all the time.

Under the cover of their clothes, two hands, one black, one white, clasped tightly together, watching the confrontation between their leader and McLuhan.

"Good habits. You know what's important. How do you view this upcoming battle? You're so isolated you don't even have a phone, and radio is a fantasy. What did your superiors tell you? Are you going to charge?!"

McLuhan looked very angry, kicking a stone not far away with his foot, breaking a clod of earth into sand. Shuo Yu looked at him and thought, that look really looks like me.

"If your boss really wants you to fight that damn war, then he's got a real heart!"

Flies were buzzing around them in late autumn. Zenda was really not a good place. Not only was there a lot of rain, but there were also a constant stream of damn insects all year round, flying around people's heads, waiting for them to die.

"Mai, why do you say this battle is damnable? Where is it damnable?"

Shuo Yu watched their leader change the subject again. He didn't talk about the most important issue, but avoided the important issue and asked about other things.

"Not judging other people's shortcomings is another good habit. Maybe I should call you Mr. Good Habit."

The brim of McLuhan's hat almost touched the helmet of their leader, just a little bit. They were very close now. Mike's applause started again, with the same frequency and posture, or three times.

"Mr. Good Habit, I want to ask you, did you participate in the last Burma War?"

"Of course." Silasila said confidently. That battle could be listed as the highlight of his life.

"More than just participating." Fanla also said it with confidence. This was the only thing he was confident about. He had come back alive from the man-eating jungles of Burma.

"The first war I experienced was in Burma, Mike." Shuoyu also looked at McLuhan and said that he would never forget what happened in Burma. There were too many people, too much debt, and too much hatred.

"Great! I was there too. Do you know how I felt? I think it was a courage unprecedented in human history, and a waste of courage unprecedented in human history! I'm a soldier. You, me, and them all are. Soldiers should at least use courage and determination to decide our own fate, right?"

"But that war was decided by eight heads arguing endlessly at the negotiating table. They all thought they were right and the others were wrong. Listen to me, listen to me! But we only have two legs..."

"And a life."

This sentence was said by Fanla in English, right next to Shuoyu's ears. Our lives are being treated as bargaining chips that can be sacrificed at will at the negotiation table. Days and nights of arguments, day and night of waste. They are too extravagant. The unit behind their prices is not the national currency or the US dollar, but human lives.

"Being dragged in sixteen directions by eight different heads was horrible. My colleagues said that McLuhan was blaming others and that we should stay away from him, but I still have to say, damn it! I can never forget those Chinese soldiers who died around me. Without them, I would have been skinned alive by the Japanese devils. But, no one, no one, said even a good word to them..."

The forests of Burma are huge. McLuhan experienced a lot in that damn war. Because of his status as an American officer, he received preferential treatment and protection, but he could not enjoy that protection with peace of mind. He still stood here, but it was earned at the cost of the same or even more lives.

Shuo Yu was so tired that he could hardly stand. All he could see were various voices shouting in his ears, "They want to go home, they want to go home." He saw the path again, where flowers and grass should have grown. In that foreign jungle, his voice was also saying,
