Chapter 139: Straw Can't Fill the Whole House

On this snowy night outside, Shuo Yuhe stayed here for one night at the enthusiastic invitation of this middle-aged woman, intending to leave early the next morning.

He actually tasted authentic Northeastern pickled cabbage, which came from the hands of the somewhat embarrassed woman sitting opposite him. Shuo Yu struck a match and lit up the small table so that the two of them wouldn't have to eat in the dark. Looking at the potato vermicelli in his bowl, he thought to himself, he said his formation couldn't be wrong.

He felt the few dollars in his pocket that he had brought with him for shopping, but he didn't know if it was enough. He hesitated and took out his hand to hand it to Sister Ma at the other end of the table.

"Big sister, thank you for saving me. Without you, I might have been taken away by a blind bear. This is what I brought with me this time. It's not much, but I can't eat your food or wear your son's clothes for free."

When Sister Ma saw this, she quickly began to refuse. She couldn't accept the money. If she accepted it, it would be a crime of conscience.

"What are you doing, big brother? We are all family, why are you being so polite? You are fighting the Japanese, so you are helping us ordinary people. Besides, who wouldn't help someone in such a situation? Take it back, take it back quickly, aren't you embarrassing your elder sister?"

Shuo Yu looked at the other person, with a hint of surprise in his eyes. Just when he was about to say that he was not a soldier, he saw Sister Ma opposite him, smiling, pulling his hand and clapping it. The other person's eyes looked at him, but it seemed that she was not looking at him.

"You are no older than my son. You are both good children. Good children, listen to your elder sister and take the money back. Be good. I know it's not easy for you."

As soon as Shuo Yu heard this, he knew that Sister Ma seemed to think he was a member of the Northeast Anti-Japanese United Army, that is, a red armed force like guerrillas, but he really wasn't! He felt a little headache looking at the few dollars that were firmly transferred back to his hands.

But no matter how he explained, Sister Ma didn't believe him. He couldn't say that he came from Zenda on the Yunnan border, because that would make the other party even less convinced. In the end, he completely gave up explaining anything and just let it go. There was really no way to explain it clearly, so he had to try another method.

He finally knew where he was. It was a city he had only seen on beer. It was in an old forest near the Pingfang District, a day's journey from the city. There was a train station nearby that was built by the Japanese puppet South Manchuria Railway and used to transport supplies for the Japanese invaders.

"Sister, what did your son do in the city?"

"He didn't tell me, just said he had something to do and would be back in a day or two, but it's been five or six days and there's no news at all. It's really frustrating. I'll see how I deal with him when he comes back. Where can I find him running around?"

Shuo Yu watched Sister Ma knitting insoles nimbly in front of the candlelight, thinking to himself, he had seen TV dramas where the places with the most Japanese invaders, apart from Peking and Shanghai, would be the Northeast. There was also the Kwantung Army here, and they were all bad guys anyway. He thought about it and finally decided to help Sister Ma find her son, just to repay this karma.

Opening his mouth,

"Sister, I'm going to the city to look for someone, so I'll help you find your son and bring him back to you. Okay, please don't go out. The weather outside is not very good. It's safest to stay at home."

Sister Ma waved her hands awkwardly, saying, "This is so troublesome!"

"Well, that's not good. Aren't you going there to complete a mission? Will it delay your work?"

Shuo Yu had just explained to her for a long time that he was actually here to look for someone, but this Sister Ma said that she understood everything, but Shuo Yu knew she didn't understand when he saw her face. He really just came here to look for sauerkraut. There was no secret mission or anything like that. It wasn't like they were filming a TV series.

"It's okay, there's no need to delay. If you really feel bad, just give me some pickled cabbage. Your pickled cabbage is really delicious, and it tastes exactly like the ones I have at home."

"If you like to eat it, come to my house when you leave, and I'll give it to you. It's not easy for you all, I know it all. When will this world end?"

"It will be soon, it will be soon, it will be better soon, the good days for the people will come soon." Shuo Yu lowered his head, eating the food in the bowl, and said it with certainty.

"Yeah?"

"Well, because the sun is about to rise in China."

"That's good, that's good. Let the devils go away quickly, go away, all of you, go back to your homes."

Shuoyu looked at the candle wax slowly melting on the table. Maodou nestled in his arms and snored contentedly. The little guy was exhausted today and now he just snored.

Straw cannot fill a room, no matter how much straw there is, it cannot fill the whole room. Only candles can.
