Chapter 53: They're all bastards

"Zenda is not lost."

"It'll be over soon if we keep going like this. I'm sorry, my brain isn't working, so I only remember this much, less than one-tenth. Trivial tasks take our lives, and if we don't poop, we'll suffocate. We can survive seven or eight days without food, four or five days without water, and two or three days without sleep. Our country has been ruined. We've been here for six or seven years now, and we keep forgetting things just to survive. I think things are the way they should be."

Perhaps among all the confusing words that Long Wenjian said, the last one is the only true one.

Shuoyu's heart beat with the frequency of his words, again and again. He thought he had found out what he wanted to do, what he came to this world for.

It’s very simple, just follow him. The bright firelight in the night will always guide people in the right direction.

Silence. Long Wenjian's words always made people either silent or angry. Shuo Yu wanted to pull on his clothes to see how he would react, but before he could start to act, Tang Ji spoke again.

"Well, what do you think of the communists?" Director Chen suddenly sat up straight because of this question, and finally looked a little serious. It seemed that all the questions he asked before were just a pretext. This was the real meat of the show.

Shuo Yu knew about the Communists, so isn't that the glorious Communist Party? It's just worth mentioning that when he was in school, his academic performance, especially in mathematics, was so poor that he didn't even get a spot as a member of the Communist Youth League, let alone join the Communist Party.

"Scholars are indispensable, but empty talk will ruin the country." This was Long Wenjian's answer.

"Have you ever had any contact with this group of people?" This was the first time Director Chen asked a question.

"During the retreat, I saw them marching and shouting slogans."

Following their leader's words, Yu Xiaoqing seemed to have finally lost his patience and slammed the gavel and shouted "Adjournment!" The excitement of the first half ended here.

Shuoyu and his companions were locked up in the "confinement room" again. He leaned over the door to see where their leader was being held. Then the door was pushed open, and Zhang Lixian and He Shuguang, who were delivering food, came in carrying rice buckets. The aroma of meat filled everyone's nose. They hadn't eaten meat for a long time.

But he didn't care about the food, he only cared about their leader. Looking at Zhang Lixian who was just standing at the door, he squeezed through the narrow gap, walked over to him and greeted him, wanting to ask if their leader was okay.

"Captain Zhang, um..."

"You don't have to call me Captain Zhang. How old are you?"

"Twenty-four."

"You call me brother like Xiao He and the others, right?"

"Well, okay, Brother Zhang." Shuoyu was a little hesitant. After all, he just casually said his age. In fact, he was much older than Zhang Lixian in front of him.

"You're pretty good." Zhang Lixian looked at the other people in the room again, "You're much better than them. You even took a bullet for him. How long have you known each other?"

"Not long ago, when we went to Burma, we met him. Oh, that's our leader, Brother Zhang. I want to ask where he is being held and whether he has eaten."

"You really care about him. He is a prisoner now." Zhang Lixian's face was tense as usual. He might be imitating their division commander. He said so much to Shuo Yu just because he admired him for blocking the bullet for the lieutenant just now. But he didn't want to say too much and turned to leave.

Seeing that he was about to leave, Shuo Yu quickly brought over a bowl of cold porridge, which was also the food sent to them in the morning. He did not eat his portion and kept it covered with something. He secretly heated it with his spiritual power, and it was now warm.

"Brother Zhang, please help me deliver this bowl of porridge to our leader. He's really doing well. His mouth is dry, so he probably didn't eat anything."

"You, okay, I promise you." Zhang Lixian looked at the bowl of cold porridge and Shuoyu's face, and took it without saying anything.

The door was closed again. Shuoyu turned around and looked at Fanla, Kangya and the others behind him. He smiled and knocked on the wooden barrel and one of their heads.

"What are you thinking about? Eat quickly, and we can talk about other things after you finish eating."

There were still not enough chopsticks and bowls for dinner this time, but it was much better than in the morning.

There was meat and rice. The chef at the division headquarters was quite skilled and the meal was delicious. However, most people had no taste for it and just listened to Shuo Yu's urging to quickly eat the food in the bowl, mechanically and repetitively.

There was an extra piece of meat in Fanla's bowl. This was a special gift from Shuoyu. The meat that hadn't been seen for a long time didn't seem to excite these people who were bored with the food.

"Dead, dead, will he die?" I don't know who among them spoke first, but the one who responded was Clauber, who had just joined them. "No."

Because of what he said, Shuo Yu gave him the meat in his bowl, "Yes, yes, no, you won't die."

"Look at how you were just now. The killing stick hasn't even hit you yet, but you're already scared to death. You've made our regiment lose face. I say, brothers, can you be a little tougher, at least to show some respect for our commander?"

No one replied to him. Yes, he was tough, he dared to face Yu Xiaoqing's bullet, but they didn't dare. They still wanted to live. Sometimes people were afraid of Shuo Yu because he could do things that no one else dared to do, things that everyone thought were impossible.

Everyone can only complain about the guys who are rolling in the mud like them, but they can't question or complain about the guy who cleaned his body and made him look like a human being.

Fanla quickly changed the subject and found a topic where they could all vent their anger, which was who exactly wanted their commander to die?
