Chapter 108 Two Little Mischievous Monkeys

"Sister-in-law, what's wrong?"

Dong Qin paused for a moment, then smiled and said, "It's nothing."

Su Jingjing could tell that the other person had something on their mind, but her sister-in-law was unwilling to talk about it, so she didn't want to press her for details.

She glanced at the needle and thread on the table, and the tiny shoes that were just beginning to take shape, and immediately understood, "Sister-in-law, are you making shoes for the child?"

It's small and exquisite, and looks quite cute.

Dong Qin picked up her needle and thread again and got busy, smiling apologetically, "Yes, my skills are just so-so, I'm sorry you had to see this."

Her mother taught her this skill, hoping it would help her marry into a good family.

She not only makes shoes, but also wants to tailor two outfits for her child, but it's a bit inconvenient since she doesn't have a sewing machine at home.

"I think it looks great too."

Judging from the stitches, Su Jingjing knew that her sister-in-law's skills were quite good.

"Sister-in-law, have you ever thought about making shoes or clothes to sell in town?"

Upon hearing this, Dong Qin stopped what she was doing.

She had never thought about this question before, and the next second she shook her head, realizing that her skills were nowhere near as good as the finished products in the shop.

"Sister-in-law, I think you should give it a try. Haven't you always designed the clothes for the family?"

After thinking for a moment, she continued, "If you find it inconvenient not to have a sewing machine, I can buy one for the family."

Li Hanting has a lot of industrial vouchers; he should be able to buy a sewing machine without much trouble.

Dong Qin was shocked by her sister-in-law's nonchalant taste, and then looked at her sister-in-law in disbelief.

Sewing machines aren't exactly in high demand, but they're not cheap either, mainly because industrial permits are hard to come by.

This was the first time her sister-in-law had trusted her, making her feel that she wasn't entirely useless.

"Jingjing, let me think about it."

"That's true. No matter what, we should give birth to the child first."

My sister-in-law shouldn't overwork herself lately; she needs to take good care of her health.

The two children were just at the door, but now they've run off to play somewhere. Luckily, An'an is nearby, so she's not too worried.

"Sister-in-law, you should go back to your room and rest. It's getting late. I'll go make dinner first."

Dong Qin couldn't rest at all; if her mother-in-law found out, she would definitely get a scolding.

"You've had enough sleep at noon, I'll go cook with you."

My sister-in-law doesn't know how to start a fire; she might burn the kitchen down. It would be better if she went to keep an eye on things.

Su Jingjing also recalled the awkward scene at noon. Cough cough, she admitted that she was indeed not used to using firewood from the countryside.

Rural families never lack farm-style dishes, and as for meat, there's still half a chicken left from lunch, so dinner won't be too bad.

The two women, sister-in-law and aunt, worked together and chatted occasionally, and Dong Qin's resentment gradually dissipated.

Before nightfall, the two children ran back hand in hand. The little one had a big smile on his face, while An An looked indifferent, his emotions unreadable.

When Su Jingjing saw the black and red patches on the children's bodies, her forehead throbbed.

These are no longer the clean and tidy kids they used to be; they're practically two little rascals.

Without a trace of emotion, she asked, "Where did you go? Your clothes are so dirty."

Li Yuanyuan noticed the seriousness in her mother's expression, and the smile on her face vanished instantly.

She has no other skills, but she has learned to read people's expressions and moods, which is how she did it when her mother was angry.

"Mom, I..."

His body trembled violently, like a child who had done something wrong.

Su Jingjing squatted down, trying to soften her tone, "Mom isn't angry, she's just curious where you and your brother went to play?"

Did they go fishing in the river? Their little feet are all wet.

Standing beside his younger sister, Li Cheng'an said firmly, "Mom, we didn't go anywhere dangerous, it's just..."

He hesitated, unable to bring himself to speak.

"Hmm...can't I even tell Mom this?"

“We played house and jumped rope together.”

These were clearly little girls' toys, but the younger sister kept pestering her.

As for being dirty, it's probably because I didn't notice it while jumping rope.

"Pfft... You played it too?"

Forgive Su Jingjing for laughing so unkindly; it's truly hard to believe that An An would be involved.

It seems he really loves Yuanyuan, no wonder he became so obsessive later on.

"Mother…"

Li Cheng'an is still just a child, and his mother's smile made him a little embarrassed.

"Alright, I'll stop teasing you. Go take a bath with Mom first."

Fortunately, she had the foresight to bring extra clothes.

Hearing the sounds of the mother and her two children playing and laughing inside the room, Dong Qin felt envious.

Her hands involuntarily rested on her bulging belly, quietly feeling the presence of her child.

The thought of her baby being born in three months filled her with immense joy.

Just then, there was a noise at the door. Dong Qin subconsciously turned her head and saw her mother-in-law and the other three rushing back, looking travel-worn.

She quickly stood up and was the first to greet her mother-in-law, "Mom and Dad, you're back?"

Yan Ling rubbed her aching shoulders. "Well, Jingjing has two children too."

The son-in-law next to him wasn't even out of breath; he had the heaviest task today, which showed he was really getting old.

Dong Qin poured a glass of warm water for everyone present. "An'an and Yuanyuan went out to play today, so their clothes are a little dirty. Jingjing is giving them a bath."

"Going out to play? That's great!"

Yan Ling took a sip of water and laughed heartily, saying that she was worried the two children wouldn't get used to life in the countryside.

Li Hanting couldn't wait to go inside and look for his wife. Although he had seen her at noon, he thought about her every moment.
