Chapter 111 Returning to the Old House

After the meal, Yan Ling busied herself tidying up her daughter's things. Since there was no shortage of vegetables at home, she specially picked some fresh ones.

Su Jingjing followed behind, not knowing whether to laugh or cry, "Mom, there are also a lot of vegetables planted in the family compound."

"These dishes are for your mother-in-law, and there's also a chicken."

As Yan Ling picked vegetables, she said, "Mom thinks it's not good to always be at odds with her."

My mother, such a proud person, actually tried to befriend my mother-in-law for her sake.

Su Jingjing felt a little envious; she resolved to take good care of her parents in the future.

Silently, she took out some money from her pocket and handed it to her mother. The mother tried to refuse, but her mother pressed her hand down.

“Mom, this money is my way of showing filial piety to you and Dad. I’ve spent a lot of the family’s money since I was little. Now that I’m grown up, it’s only right that I do my part for the family.”

Yan Ling shook her head and tried her best to return the money in her hand.

“You don’t need much money in the countryside. Your parents have savings, so don’t worry. As long as you live your life well, we’ll be happy.”

After hesitating for a moment, he said, "I'll bring the kids home to visit more often when I have time."

Su Jingjing knew she had to use her ultimate move.

“If you don’t take the money, I won’t take the vegetables and chicken.”

She had never threatened anyone before, and the tone of her voice when she said those words had no intimidating power whatsoever.

But Yan Ling was very pleased with these words. As soon as she saw her daughter's aggrieved little face, she immediately surrendered.

"Okay, okay, Mom will accept it."

Looking down, I discovered it was five ten-yuan bills.

"This...this is too much, does Han Ting know?"

Don't let the young couple have a fight over this.

Su Jingjing smiled and said, "He doesn't know yet. I'll tell him when I get back."

Ah Ting isn't that petty.

Two days passed in the blink of an eye. When it was time to leave, the two children were very reluctant to part, clinging to their grandparents and refusing to let go.

He looked listless and dispirited.

"Would it be alright if Grandpa and Grandma rode in the car together?"

These words were spoken by the spoiled Bao Yuanyuan. In the Su family courtyard, almost everyone doted on her.

Su Xiang, a grown man, is usually very serious, but in front of his granddaughter, he is a kind grandfather.

"Grandpa will visit you and your brother again next time he has time."

After saying that, he patted An'an's little shoulder.

An'an is just like Han Ting, with the demeanor of a great general at such a young age. Yuan Yuan is very similar to Jing Yatou when she was little, and she likes to act cute. Every time he is in front of her, he, her father, can only give in.

Jingya has been married for so long, he should find time to visit her. Before, it was because there was a conflict between father and daughter, and neither of them could bring themselves to do it.

Yan Ling couldn't resist giving Yuan Yuan a kiss on the cheek, pressing her face against hers affectionately, her voice unusually gentle.

"Yuanyuan, be good. Whenever you miss this place, just ask Mommy to call you."

The village officials have a telephone, but they usually only answer calls and rarely make outgoing calls because phone calls are expensive.

"Mom, shall we come again next time?"

The little guy looked at his mother with a pitiful expression.

Su Jingjing hugged Yuanyuan, wiped away the tears from the corners of her eyes, and said softly, "Okay, summer vacation is coming soon. Mom will bring you and your brother to stay for a while then."

The little guy then stopped crying and started laughing.

Li Hanting's heart tightened; he would be all alone then.

The family of four sat in the car and waved goodbye.

Along the way, I saw a group of children following behind the car, while the adults were working in the fields, so there was no crowding.

In no time at all, they slowly drove away from the village.

Su Jingjing then looked away.

I arrived happy, but left feeling somewhat heavy-hearted.

Li Hanting looked at his wife in the back seat; she was holding Yuanyuan in her arms.

"Honey, let's bring Mom and Dad to the family compound another day."

Su Jingjing moved slightly. "Okay."

"Oh, right, I just gave my mom fifty yuan without asking you beforehand."

When it comes to money, it's not a huge deal, but it's not insignificant either. She never intended to hide it from Ah Ting.

Li Hanting chuckled, "Wife, didn't I already tell you? You can allocate all the money in the house; you don't need to report to me specifically."

Ultimately, his wife didn't trust him enough.

Su Jingjing laughed lightly, "Let's go to the old house first and deliver the vegetables and chickens there."

"good."

Having missed her midday nap, Su Jingjing was feeling sleepy.

The two children fell asleep as soon as they got in the car.

"Honey, it's still early, why don't you take a nap?"

"good."

Li Hanting slowed down the car, and what should have been a journey of a little over an hour took more than two hours.

Finally, the car stopped in front of the Li family's old residence.

The mother and her two children in the back seat were still fast asleep.

"My wife has arrived."

Su Jingjing let out a soft moan, rubbed her sleepy eyes, and asked in a languid voice, "Have we arrived yet?"

Subconsciously, I looked up and saw that this was the Li family's old house.

I just had a good sleep and now I feel refreshed. I even avoided motion sickness.

"Honey, we've arrived."

An'an had woken up at some point, while Yuanyuan was sleeping soundly against her brother, snoring softly and seemingly drooling.

"Mother."

The little one woke up just like his mother, rubbing his eyes and then snuggling into her arms, moving his head slightly to indicate that he wanted to sleep some more.

Su Jingjing let her continue sleeping, gave the man a wink, and then got out of the car with Yuanyuan in her arms.

"An'an, get off the bus with Mommy."

Li Hanting went around to the trunk and took the things out.

As soon as they stepped into the courtyard, they saw Li's mother enjoying the cool air under the pavilion.

"Han Ting, Jing Jing, what brings you here?"

Chen Shufang put down her palm-leaf fan and stood up in astonishment.

What's wrong with Yuanyuan?

Su Jingjing walked into the pavilion. "Mom, Yuanyuan is asleep. We just came from my mom's place. She asked me to bring some fresh vegetables and chicken."

Have they gone back to their hometown?

Chen Shufang looked at the bag in her son's hand and frowned subconsciously. Would Yan Ling be so kind?

If I remember correctly, Yan Ling and she were mortal enemies, weren't they?

But you can't hit someone who's smiling.

"Oh, I see. Then please thank your mom for me."

He took the bag from his son and said, "Then stay home for dinner tonight. Your dad will be back later too."

As for the eldest son's family, they only have the opportunity to get together during their holidays.

Li Hanting glanced at his wife, and after receiving her approval, he nodded, "Okay."

Of course, this didn't escape Chen Shufang's notice. Alas, Han Ting is now completely under Jingjing's thumb.

"Take Yuanyuan inside to sleep quickly."

It's quite tiring to hold it for so long.

To everyone's surprise, the little guy woke up on his own as soon as we went inside.

Seeing her grandma beside her, she greeted her in a sweet, childlike voice, "Grandma."

"Hey, did you have fun in the countryside?"

As far as I can remember, that old woman wasn't very friendly to An'an and Yuanyuan.

When the topic turned to the joyful life in the countryside, the little guy immediately perked up, pulling his grandma along to share his happiness.
