Chapter 153 Returning to the Countryside

The next day, the chirping of birds outside the window woke Su Jingjing from her deep sleep.

She slowly opened her eyes. The room was brightly lit, and the sunlight outside the window was dazzling.

He patted his head; it must be very late again.

She didn't go to bed until almost 2 a.m. last night, having already prepared herself to sleep in.

The living room seemed quiet, and there was no sound from the TV. Isn't Dad watching the news at this time?

Su Jingjing threw off the covers and got out of bed to wash up. Although her body was still a little sore, she could walk without any noticeable discomfort. She could clearly feel that A-Ting had applied medicine to her last night.

After washing up, I quickly changed my clothes and opened the door.

"Mom and Dad, are you home?"

She didn't expect that her parents were in the living room, and even An'an and Yuanyuan were there.

Su Jingjing seemed to understand something; they didn't want to make any noise and wake her up.

Yan Ling put down her needlework, got up and walked to her daughter's side. "Girl, are you awake?"

"Are you hungry? Mom will go get you breakfast."

Li Yuanyuan put down her toys, walked over and took her mother's hand. "Mom, Grandma said you weren't feeling well. Are you feeling any better now?"

Are you feeling unwell?

Su Jingjing was stunned for a moment, then realized that A-Ting must have informed her mother.

"Mom is fine now, you and your brother don't need to worry."

He put his arm around Yuanyuan's neck, and then glanced at An'an.

"Eat it while it's hot."

Yan Ling placed a steamed bun, an egg, and a bowl of white porridge on the table and invited Jing Yatou to come and eat.

She's been through this herself, and this morning her son-in-law subtly reminded her of something, so she knew what had happened last night, but that was something she was happy to see happen.

Su Jingjing called her two children over, and An'an said sensibly, "Mom, you eat, my sister and I are still full."

Li Yuanyuan echoed her brother, "Yuanyuan's tummy is bulging, I'm not hungry at all."

This is her mother's breakfast, and she wants to save it for her.

Yan Ling peeled the egg and handed it to her daughter, saying, "Girl, eat up. The two children ate well this morning."

To be precise, since arriving at the family compound, not a single meal has been casually prepared, which explains the significant changes in the two children, especially Yuanyuan.

After finishing breakfast, Su Jingjing did not go back to her room, but sat next to her mother and talked to her.

"Mom, the stitches are so fine."

Compared to her, she felt like an idiot.

A couple of days ago, they went to the city and bought some fabric, planning to make clothes for the children.

Before Yan Ling got married, she loved needlework, but after she got married, she didn't have as much time for it and only occasionally made one or two pieces of clothing for her husband.

"Your mother was quite something back then. Matchmakers practically wore out the doorstep of our house. I don't even know how she managed to marry your father."

Su Xiang's eye twitched. The old woman's lies were too outrageous.

His wife noticed a slight movement he made and raised her eyebrows. "What, you don't believe me?"

"How could I not believe it?"

Su Xiang had a strong will to survive. Over the years, he had become accustomed to his wife's threats, but she meant well.

Su Jingjing smiled. Her parents would always be the most loving couple.

I just hope that she and Ah Ting will be like that in the future.

Ever since Wang Pozi was frightened by her son's words, she has really restrained herself a lot.

She was afraid that her son, who was an officer, would really abandon her. If she had to make a living under her eldest daughter-in-law, she would starve to death sooner or later.

Yi Kuan gives her ten yuan every month, and with that ten yuan, she can live better than others.

However, he only restrained himself in front of Yi Kuan; behind his back, he still bossed He Zhaodi around.

He Zhaodi didn't bother with her; after all, she couldn't cause any big trouble.

Fortunately, Jingjing was magnanimous and didn't hold a grudge about what happened that day; otherwise, she wouldn't know how to face Jingjing.

Perhaps because she couldn't gain anything from it, and because the people in the compound disliked her, Granny Wang made an excuse to go back to the countryside.

Yan Yikuan certainly wouldn't stop her; he had already done more than enough for this mother.

From childhood, she always favored her older brother, secretly saving the best food for him.

Perhaps he longed for his mother's love when he was young, but after experiencing heartbreak time and time again, he has become very indifferent.

He's just doing his duty as a son now; he doesn't have anything more than that.

In recent years, he has been desperately climbing the ranks, just to earn military merits so that he can bring his wife and daughter over as soon as possible.

Granny Wang came to the family compound with great fanfare, but then slunk back to her hometown.

As soon as her mother-in-law left, He Zhaodi smiled happily and didn't even feel tired while tidying up the house.

The small room next door is where my mother-in-law lives; now it's practically a pigsty.

Yan Xiaoyun ran over excitedly and asked, "Mom, did Grandma go back?"

"Xiaoyun, don't come in." He Zhaodi quickly stopped her, the room was really too smelly. "Grandma went back, Mom will cook you some eggs later."

My daughter hasn't eaten eggs for several days.

"Go downstairs and play with Yuanyuan and the others."

"Okay." Yan Xiaoyun nodded repeatedly and then ran outside.

Yan Ling also wanted to return to her hometown.

The old man is the village chief; he can't leave for too long.

"Mom, you're home so soon? Why don't you stay a couple more days?"

Su Jingjing was reluctant to leave, feeling as if her mother had only been there a short time.

Yan Ling was also reluctant to let him go, "No, I still have work to do at home, and your brother might not be able to handle it."

After moving to the family compound, life became much happier. She was inseparable from her daughter and grandson every day, and she almost forgot about her work in the countryside.

Li Yuanyuan cried when she heard that her grandparents were going home.

"Grandpa and Grandma, don't go."

Yan Ling's heart softened, and she carefully wiped away Yuan Yuan's tears.

"Don't cry, baby. Grandma's not going away forever. If you miss Grandma, just call her more often."

The next day, Li Hanting personally drove his parents-in-law to the station. They came with lots of bags and packages, and they came back with the same.

He only drove home after his parents got into the car.

I opened the door and saw my wife mopping the floor.

Hearing the sound, Su Jingjing straightened up and asked, "Has Mom gotten in the car yet?"

"Um."

Li Hanting stepped forward and took the mop; he would mop the floor.

Where are the children?

Su Jingjing said, "I was afraid Yuanyuan would cry, so I asked An'an to take her downstairs to play."

The house has been very lively these past few days, but once my parents went back, the house suddenly felt much emptier.
