Along the way, the tattered shoes were already covered in mud, and the area under their feet was also stained with some black mud.
Grandma Yang gestured for her son to look down, "Awei, Mom got the car dirty, what should we do?"
This was borrowed from his boss by his son; wouldn't it cause him to get scolded?
Yang Wei started the car and drove away, glancing at his mother's feet. "It's okay, I'll wipe it clean when I get back."
"Mom, it's still a long way to get back to the military region. Close your eyes and rest for a bit."
My mother carried so much stuff; she must have been under immense stress the whole way, afraid to even doze off, lest someone steal it.
"Mom isn't tired." Granny Yang looked left and right, examining the decorations inside the car, and couldn't help but smile.
Yang Wei understood his mother's feelings at that moment, so he didn't say anything more.
Along the way, Grandma Yang kept her mouth shut and didn't say anything, afraid of disturbing her son while he was driving.
About an hour later, the car slowly drove into the family compound.
Some women in the courtyard looked over curiously.
Yang Wei got out of the car and went around to the other side to open the car door for his mother.
"Mom, we've arrived."
"Okay, okay." As soon as she entered the military area, Granny Yang's eyes looked around. It had been almost a year since she last came here, and many memories had become blurry.
When she stepped onto this land, she seemed to rediscover a sense of familiarity.
When Wu Xiuying saw the old woman Yang from her memory, she gave Zhou Qian a wink and then stepped forward.
"Auntie, do you still remember us?"
Granny Yang was taken aback. She squinted and looked her up and down, then suddenly revealed a few sparse teeth, and the wrinkles on her face appeared.
"It's you guys. What are your names again?"
I couldn't recall their names for a moment.
Wu Xiuying smiled upon hearing this, "Auntie, I am Wu Xiuying, and this is Zhou Qian."
“You haven’t been to the family compound for almost a year, you must have forgotten about us.”
Grandma Yang chuckled, "Don't mention it, I'm just getting old and my memory isn't what it used to be."
"I'm busy in the fields in the countryside, and I'm not used to living in the city."
Zhou Qian said, "Auntie, congratulations on having a grandson soon."
Granny Yang liked hearing this.
Yang Wei listened intently as he moved things.
He knew that Wu Xiuying's nature was not as kind as it seemed, and that his mother was no match for her and would inevitably fall into her trap.
"Mom, Honghong is still waiting at home. Let's go upstairs first."
Granny Yang then reluctantly shut her mouth, saying, "I'm going upstairs now, we'll talk again another day."
Wu Xiuying and the other woman nodded, then noticed the package at Yang Wei's feet and leaned over to ask, "Auntie, what's this?"
"Oh, they're all grown in the countryside," Granny Yang replied. "Ge Hong is pregnant, so I thought I'd bring some over for her to try."
Seeing that the group was still talking, Yang Wei frowned slightly and said, "Mom, go upstairs."
He made two trips back and forth before finally getting the things upstairs.
Just as he took out his key and turned the lock, Granny Yang grabbed her son's arm and asked nervously, "Awei, Mom is a little nervous."
To be honest, she was indeed quite afraid of Ge Hong.
When her son said he wanted to marry Ge Hong, she wasn't very satisfied. Ge Hong was too strong-willed, and Awei couldn't control her at all.
As it turned out, her premonition was correct. After the marriage, Awei treated Ge Hong like a slave, afraid that she would be unhappy.
That's why Granny Yang was unwilling to come up; this time, it was entirely for her grandson's sake.
Yang Wei understood his mother's unspoken meaning and grabbed her arm in return, saying, "Don't worry, Ge Hong won't have any objections."
She is currently resting in bed. She vomited repeatedly as soon as she got up this morning and went back to her room to rest after only eating a few bites of breakfast.
As soon as the door opened, the living room was quiet. Granny Yang asked, "Awei, isn't Ge Hong home?"
Did he go out shopping again?
Yang Wei piled the things in the corner and casually explained the reason.
"Mom, I'll go in and wake her up."
Granny Yang quickly stopped her, "No need, no need, let her rest well, I'll go and cook her a bowl of porridge."
How can she let her go hungry? What if her grandson starves?
Yang Wei wanted to stop his mother, but he couldn't resist her enthusiasm.
Ge Hong tossed and turned in bed. She had vomited up all of her breakfast today, and now her stomach felt empty.
As she was complaining about why Yang Wei hadn't returned yet, she smelled a delicious aroma coming from outside, which immediately whetted her appetite.
Upon closer listening, it sounded like her husband's voice could also be heard.
What exactly is Yang Wei up to?
She threw back the covers, slipped on her shoes, and came out.
When she met her mother-in-law's eyes, Ge Hong was stunned for a moment.
Grandma Yang didn't expect to run into her daughter-in-law. She nudged her hand and said, "Get up, get up. I heard from Awei that you didn't eat much for breakfast, so I made you some porridge."
Following her mother-in-law's gaze, Ge Hong saw that it was just ordinary vegetable porridge, but for some reason, her stomach was whetted.
Surprisingly, when she picked up the bowl of porridge, she didn't feel like vomiting.
The moment I entered the door, it was pretty good.
But out of politeness, she didn't thank her mother-in-law.
Seeing her daughter-in-law enjoying the meal, Granny Yang smiled with relief.
She was indeed very afraid that Ge Hong would give her a hard time.
Yang Wei plopped down opposite Ge Hong, raising an eyebrow. "How's it going? You're not throwing up anymore, are you?"
It was indeed a wise choice to have her mother come and take care of Ge Hong.
Ge Hong did not answer, but glanced up at Yang Wei and inadvertently noticed the packages piled up in the corner.
That familiar feeling of disgust surged up again. "What is that?"
