A jeep sped along, the atmosphere inside extremely tense. Zhong Xinyi sat in the passenger seat, barely daring to breathe.
Gu Shaokai's face was gloomy and terrifying, and his eyes were filled with a complex mix of emotions.
Even though Zhong Xinyi was still a bit dazed, she noticed that something was wrong with him. She bit her lip, trying to break the silence.
Are you angry?
As soon as he finished speaking, Gu Shaokai slammed on the brakes and stopped on the side of the road.
Caught off guard, Zhong Xinyi leaned forward, and the man grabbed her shoulders tightly, his eyes bloodshot as he asked in a low voice, "Do you really have to go to his house for dinner?"
He was insanely jealous at the mere thought of the two of them being alone together.
Seeing the hint of red in the man's eyes, Zhong Xinyi felt a slight pang in her heart.
She lowered her eyelashes, moved her lips, and said, "Aunt Xu is a friend of my mom, and she was very kind to me when I was little. I couldn't refuse her."
So I'm sorry, please forgive me for not being able to agree to your request.
Gu Shaokai's hands fell to his sides, a hint of hurt flashing in his eyes. In her heart, he would always be last.
Sometimes he even felt that she didn't love him at all; maybe she had feelings for him, but she couldn't be called a lover.
Zhong Xinyi was in a state of utter confusion, as if she were bound by invisible ropes, making it hard for her to breathe.
He reached out and carefully hooked his hand around her pinky finger. "Are you angry?"
"Don't worry, I'll be right back after I finish eating."
He cares about this man and doesn't want him to be unhappy.
Gu Shaokai lowered his eyelids, neither pushing her hand away nor holding it, remaining indifferent, his handsome face exuding a coldness and aloofness.
"Um."
He looked at her, his eyes as deep as the sea, then started the car and continued forward.
This was the first time Zhong Xinyi had experienced his indifference, and she was at a loss for how to ease the atmosphere.
In this relationship, he has always been the one taking the initiative.
Is he feeling too tired?
The two remained silent until they reached the performing arts troupe.
Although he was still as considerate and thoughtful as ever, Zhong Xinyi always felt something was different.
"Um, I'm free tomorrow morning, you..."
Gu Shaokai's eyes darkened, unleashing a raging fire that seemed to devour everything.
"Sorry, I have to go on a business trip tomorrow morning."
His voice was as cold as iron, revealing a resolute determination.
He's so cold!
She just meant to say that they could go out on a date in the morning, thankfully she didn't say the whole thing, otherwise she would have lost face.
Zhong Xinyi felt extremely wronged, and a sour feeling welled up in her nose.
Since she started dating, she's been pampered and loved by men, which has probably made her more demanding and fussy. She's really useless.
"Be careful, I'll wait for you to come back."
After saying that, she took small steps inside.
Gu Shaokai closed his eyes. Was she really that eager to go to someone's house for dinner?
She was always reluctant to meet her parents whenever the topic came up.
He told himself not to be jealous, but he really couldn't help feeling envious.
Feelings of disappointment and resentment surged from the depths of his heart like a raging flood.
"Brother, you're back?"
Hei Zi was checking the accounts at the front desk. Looking at the touching numbers, he felt as sweet as if he had eaten honey.
He looked up and saw Gu Shaokai walk in, and he immediately grinned.
He picked up the ledger, pointed to the sales figures, and lowered his voice, saying, "Brother, do you know how much money we made last month?"
"Coffee shop, clothing store, restaurant... all together it costs 50,000 yuan."
"Brother, are you happy?"
Upon catching a glimpse of Gu Shaokai's expression, his smile instantly froze on his lips.
"Brother, who upset you?"
Wait a minute, shouldn't he be all smiles when he comes back from his date?
"Go and get a few bottles of strong liquor."
Gu Shaokai loosened his tie and lazily sank into the sofa. No matter how handsome he dressed, it was all for naught; all he wanted to do now was get drunk.
Strong liquor?
Kuroko's lips twitched.
"Why aren't you going yet?"
"Yes, yes, I'll go right away." He put down the ledger and ran towards the wine cabinet.
Opening the cabinet door revealed a collection of expensive wines, red and white, all kinds.
I grabbed two bottles and poured a little into a wine glass.
"Brother, we'll just have a little bit."
"Shut up." Gu Shaokai gave him a cold look, swirled the wine in his glass, and then drank it all in one gulp.
Suddenly, it felt like a fire was burning in my stomach, but no matter how uncomfortable I felt, it couldn't compare to his heartache.
One glass after another, as if trying to get himself drunk.
Hei Zi stood by, trembling with fear. If Zhao Ge kept drinking like that, he'd be in the hospital sooner or later.
"Brother, did you and your wife have a fight?"
After a few drinks, Gu Shaokai's face turned visibly red, but his eyes remained clear and his mind was still sharp.
Hearing Kuroko's words, he sneered, "It would be great if we had a conflict."
This was just his anger on his own; perhaps she had no idea.
Hei Zi said indignantly, "Brother, I think you care too much about your wife. Sometimes, if a woman is given the cold shoulder, she will become even more devoted to you."
"To put it bluntly, you're both rich and good-looking, and a whole bunch of girls are waiting for you to like them."
Before falling in love, the guy was carefree; after falling in love, he became insecure and anxious.
Love is indeed both bitter and sweet.
Gu Shaokai's voice was terribly hoarse, exuding a heavy, bloodthirsty aura. "Don't say things like that again. I've decided on her for life."
"How come I can't get drunk on this wine? Is it not strong enough?"
He picked up the bottle and examined it closely, frowning as he instructed Hei Zi, "Go get two more bottles."
Hei Zi stood rooted to the spot, motionless for a long time.
"Brother, you'll get drunk if you drink any more. This wine is really bad for your stomach."
