Yan Ling felt a surge of vigilance. The city was different from the countryside. Now that she was at home with three children, she had to be careful in everything she did.
Raising her voice, she asked, "Who is it?"
The person outside the door was clearly taken aback for a moment. "Mother-in-law, it's me."
"It's Grandma." Yuanyuan ran to open the door with a smile, but she couldn't reach it, so she kept jumping around.
"Let Grandma open the door." Yan Ling placed Guodong in the cradle, stepped forward, and pulled the door latch.
He warmly invited her, "Mother-in-law, come in quickly."
Chen Shufang led Yuanyuan in, subconsciously taking in the surroundings of the courtyard.
"Mother-in-law, please have a seat. I'll make you some tea."
An'an grabbed Yan Ling's arm, "Grandma, I'm going to make some."
Yuanyuan followed along excitedly, "I'm going too."
Chen Shufang asked curiously, "An'an and Yuanyuan can make tea now?"
Yan Ling gave a thumbs up and laughed, "Yes, those two kids are amazing."
Then, getting to the point, "Mother-in-law, what brings you here?"
"Now that you've moved to the city, I always have to come and see you."
Chen Shufang said with a friendly expression, "If you need any help, please let me know."
Yan Ling's smile deepened. "Thank you, Mother-in-law. Jing and Han Ting have made all the arrangements for us."
Chen Shufang then remembered the pears she had brought. "Oh right, someone gave me two boxes of pears yesterday, so I brought one over."
The pears were wrapped in a cardboard box, so Yan Ling couldn't see their size, but they felt heavy, so there must be several inside.
He smiled warmly and said, "Mother-in-law, you're too kind. Han Ting just brought back a can of milk powder and a chicken yesterday."
Chen Shufang waved her hand, "We're all family, so let's not be formal. Now that An'an and Yuanyuan are in the city, it's much easier for me to see them."
An'an brought out the teapot, and Yuanyuan followed with a teacup.
The two children poured tea quite skillfully, and they did it pretty well.
"Grandma, Grandma, have some tea."
Chen Shufang accepted it with a smile, took a small sip, and said, "Thank you, my dear grandson, it's delicious."
"There's a box of pears over there. Take it and share it with your sister."
The two children then noticed the pears on the table. They skillfully used a knife to tear open the seal, revealing about ten pears inside, each about the size of a fist.
"Grandma, take it and wash it clean."
Yan Ling cut the washed pears into pieces and placed them on a plate.
The two children washed their hands and then picked up the pears from the plate, offering them to Yan Ling and Chen Shufang respectively.
"Grandma is eating pears."
"Grandma is eating a pear."
Chen Shufang and Yan Ling exchanged a smile; having two sensible little darlings was better than anything else.
After handing the first piece of pear to her grandmother, Yuanyuan began to enjoy the fruit attentively. Taking a bite, the juice burst in her mouth, sweet and delicious.
She was so happy that she squinted her eyes.
Seeing Sun's satisfied expression, Chen Shufang took out a handkerchief and wiped the juice from the corner of her mouth. "Is it sweet?"
"It's so sweet."
A smile spread across her round lips, her eyes crinkling into crescents.
But when she saw her younger brother's bewildered expression, she sighed, "My poor little brother can only drink milk powder and can't eat anything else."
The group's gazes immediately fell on Xiao Guodong, whose expression became even more innocent. His eyes were fixed on the pears on the table, and drool was constantly dripping from the corners of his mouth.
“Eee-yah-yah…”
Seeing that no one paid attention to him, he jumped up and down happily.
Yuanyuan quickly swallowed the pear, wiped her hands clean, and hurriedly comforted her younger brother, "Little brother, you're still too young to eat these. When you're a little older, I'll take you to buy some delicious food."
Xiao Guodong didn't know if he understood, but he stopped his playful antics.
Chen Shufang was amused, "Our Yuanyuan is becoming more and more like an older sister."

Every child wants to be treated like an adult.
Chen Shufang couldn't help but sigh, "It would be perfect if Jingjing could give them a younger brother or sister."
To avoid giving her in-laws any reason to overthink, she quickly changed the subject, saying, "However, I also know that Jingjing is currently focused on her studies and won't be considering having children for the time being."
Watching the brother and sister running around in the yard, Yan Ling agreed with Chen Shufang for the first time, "Mother-in-law, to be honest, I think the same way you do."
"While the two children are still young, they can have another child. We can help take care of it, so the young couple won't have to worry about it at all."
"Yes, but the young couple also have their own considerations."
Chen Shufang sat for about an hour before getting up and going back.
"An'an and Yuanyuan, Grandma will come to see you another day. Be good at home and listen to your maternal grandmother. Don't make her worry."
Yan Ling tried to persuade her to stay, saying, "Mother-in-law, it's almost noon. Why don't you have lunch at home before going back?"
Chen Shufang declined, saying, "I have things to do at home. I'll come over another day when I have time."
Around noon
As soon as Su Jingjing returned, her two children surrounded her and told her about what had happened when their mother-in-law came over that morning.
Yan Ling added, "They also brought a box of pears. We've already eaten some; the pears are very sweet."
"After you finish lunch, you can also try the taste."
Su Jingjing was thinking that she would choose a time to go and visit the two elders another day.
After lunch, I took a walk in the yard to digest my food before going back to my room for a nap.
Inside the small house, Dong Qin was coaxing her son to sleep in the cradle.
As soon as Su Dashan entered the house, he took off his thick coat, lay lazily on the bed, put his hands behind his head, looked at Dong Qin's back, and whispered, "Wife, why has my little sister's mother-in-law suddenly become so nice?"
