Li Yuan sat down on the sofa and looked at the mother and daughter opposite him. "I said Jingjing was a good girl from the beginning."
Chen Shufang hummed twice, knowing that Lao Li was about to bring up the foolish things she had done in the past.
But it has to be said, Lao Li is better at judging people than she is.
Seeing his wife's downcast expression, Li Yuan knew she was blaming herself, so he stopped talking about the previous topic.
"Now that your in-laws have moved to the city, you should visit them often when you have time to see if there's anything you can help with."
"You don't need to tell me that, I know what to do."
She gets along quite well with her mother-in-law now, and finds that their personalities are compatible.
In just a few days, the store's business exploded with orders, and Dong Qin and Sister Xia worked overtime to rush out the clothes.
Su Jingjing didn't expect the business to be so booming. She is also working hard to design clothes. Only by constantly innovating can she attract customers.
She stepped into the small cubicle, where only the sound of sewing machines could be heard. Watching their busy figures, she said, "Sister Xia, Sister Hui, Sister Wen, thank you for your hard work."
The straightforward Sister Xia laughed without a care, "It's not hard work at all. We're happy to see the store doing so well."
The other two echoed this sentiment, eager to work overtime and earn more money.
Su Jingjing smiled with relief and said, "Don't worry, I will give you extra overtime pay at the end of the month."
The three women were immediately filled with gratitude and quickly said that they had met a good boss.
The next day, Su Dashan returned to his hometown to bring his father over. Faced with the villagers' barrage of questions, he only gave vague answers.
The plump aunt tugged at his sleeve, her eyes gleaming with shrewdness. "Dashan, your whole family has moved to the city. Are you doing some good business there? Don't forget about us villagers."
Those present also chimed in with a barrage of questions.
Su Dashan silently pulled his sleeve back. He was much more composed now. "Auntie, business in the city isn't that easy. We just want to be closer to Little Sister."
The plump woman rolled her eyes at Su Dashan, clearly not believing him.
"Just ask me anything."
Su Xiang walked out with his hands behind his back and a serious expression.
Despite serving as village chief for so many years, he still possessed a somewhat domineering aura.
Everyone's hearts skipped a beat, and they looked at each other awkwardly, no one daring to speak first.
The plump woman sensed something was wrong, looked back, and couldn't help but curse, "They're all cowards!"
Turning her head, she met Su Xiang's imposing gaze, and she quickly put on a fake smile, "Village Chief, this is all a misunderstanding. We haven't seen Dashan for a while, we're just concerned about him."
Su Xiang reached out to stop her nonsense, "Now that you've seen it, if there's nothing else, hurry back. Also, I'm not the village chief anymore, so don't call me by the wrong name next time."
After a brief exchange of pleasantries, everyone dispersed.
Su Dashan had just taken a deep breath when his father called him inside.
As soon as he entered the courtyard, the luggage under the big tree caught his attention, and he exclaimed in surprise, "Dad, why are there so many?"
So that's why my father was so eager.
Su Xiang blushed slightly, "I accidentally added too much."
"Dad, what should we do with the family's farmland?"
Although we moved to the city, the farmland is the root of our rural roots, and we can't just give it up.
"I'll ask your uncle to keep an eye on things."
Su Xiang is the eldest son in his family, with three younger brothers and a younger sister. His sister married far away and they haven't been in contact for years.
Before the four brothers got married, they had a good relationship. However, after they got married, their wives were not easy to mess with. They came to their door almost every day to ask for money. After Yan Ling punished them a few times, they finally calmed down, but their relationship gradually faded.
My younger brother and his wife are honest people, which is why we dared to let him look after the fields this time.
The father and son carried their luggage on their backs, locked the door, and set off to catch their ride.
Four hours later, they arrived at the station. Su Jingjing was already waiting at the station entrance. As soon as she saw him, she hurriedly waved.
"Dad, brother, over here."
Returning to the bustling metropolis, Su Xiang still felt a little dizzy.
"Dad, my younger sister and brother-in-law are here to pick us up."
Su Dashan excitedly tugged at his father's clothes. Just now in the car, he was worried about how to move his things to his residence.
"I saw it, don't get so worked up."
Su Xiang rebuked him, feigning composure.
Looking at the two large sacks of luggage on the ground, Su Jingjing couldn't help but laugh and cry. "Dad, did you bring all the things from the house here?"
Su Xiang frowned slightly and coughed lightly, "No one lives in the house now, it'll just go bad if it stays there."
To avoid embarrassment, he immediately changed the subject.
"I miss my children. Let's go back soon."
Su Jingjing thought they must be tired too, so it wouldn't hurt to go back and talk.
Li Hanting put the luggage in the trunk before driving away.
On the bus
Su Jingjing sat in the passenger seat and turned to look back. "Dad, brother, if you're sleepy, take a nap in the car."
Su Xiang waved his hand, "I'm not sleepy."
He asked awkwardly, "Your mother should be home, right?"
Su Jingjing suppressed a smile, "Mom knew you were coming, so she specially waited for you at home."
Although the elderly couple sometimes bicker, they have been inseparable for decades and have a very deep bond. Now that they haven't seen each other for more than half a month, they inevitably miss each other terribly.
They chatted and laughed all the way back to their rented room.
"Dad, we've arrived."
Su Jingjing got out of the car and opened the car door for her father.
"Okay, sure." Su Xiang looked at the spacious courtyard in front of him and asked curiously, "How much would it cost to rent this house?"
Su Dashan replied, "Five yuan a month."
