The next day was the weekend, and to give the young couple some alone time, Chen Shufang took An'an and Yuanyuan back to the old house early in the morning.
Li Yuehuan originally wanted to stay in bed, but her mother kept making noises in her ear, deliberately preventing her from sleeping any longer.
A week later, I returned to the old house.
"Xiao Liu, thank you for troubling me so early in the morning."
Chen Shufang exchanged a few pleasantries with Liu Yang, "Why don't you come in and have some tea before going back to the unit?"
Liu Yang smiled sheepishly, "Madam Li, thank you for your kindness, but I have other matters to attend to at the military base, so I'll head back now."
"Okay, drive carefully."
Chen Shufang also knew that these soldiers didn't get any leave after returning from missions.
"grandfather……"
As soon as the car drove away, Yuanyuan happily jumped into Li Yuan's arms.
Chen Shufang turned around and saw Yuanyuan clinging to Lao Li, which pleased him.
The two locked eyes, and she had just opened her mouth when, a second later, Lao Li, with Yuanyuan in one arm and An'an in the other, turned and went into the living room.
"Mom, why do I feel like Dad is acting strange?"
"It's nothing, he's just being childish." With that, she went inside.
Li Yuehuan was left standing in the wind, bewildered.
Are old people like children?
Li Yuan sat on the sofa with one woman on each side. He glanced at his wife as she walked in and thought she would speak first, but she went straight to the kitchen.
He was so angry that he felt a lump in his throat.
"Grandpa, why do you keep looking at Grandma? Am I not cute enough?"
Yuanyuan pouted and asked, her bright black eyes looking particularly innocent.
"Pfft..."
Li Yuehuan had just brought out a small plate of sliced pears from the kitchen when she suddenly heard Yuanyuan's words and couldn't help but burst out laughing.
In an instant, all three of them turned to look at them.
Yuan Yuan rested her chin on her hands, her voice soft and sweet, "Auntie, what are you laughing at?"
Under her father's deathly gaze, Li Yuehuan struggled to control her facial expressions.
"No...it's nothing."
"Have some pears." She then popped a piece of pear into her mouth. "Isn't it sweet?"
"Waaah..."
Yuanyuan was caught off guard when her mouth was covered, and her cheeks puffed out.
"Sweet~~"
"Eat slowly, don't rush."
Li Yuan gently patted her back, afraid that his granddaughter would choke.
A sharp look swept over her, "Can't you, as the aunt, be a little more reliable?"
"Dad, I didn't mean to."
She was startled; if Yuanyuan choked, she would be doomed.
"Alright, alright, just be more careful next time."
Chen Shufang stepped in to smooth things over, and Old Li, perhaps going through menopause, sometimes became incredibly talkative.
Li Yuehuan put the plate on the table. "Mom, I suddenly remembered that I still have homework to do. I'll go do my homework now."
After saying that, he took off running towards the stairs.
Chen Shufang reached out and took the hands of the brother and sister, saying, "Go wash your hands with Grandma first, and then you can eat the pears."
After washing her hands, Yuanyuan couldn't wait to take two pieces, one to her mouth and the other to Lao Li.
"Grandpa and Grandma, the pears are so sweet, please have some."
An'an blinked her eyes and said, "Grandpa and Grandma, you eat first."
Li Yuan was deeply moved and took the two pieces of pear. "Okay, Grandpa, have some."
Let alone pears, he would eat arsenic if his grandson fed him.
"The pears my two adorable grandchildren fed me were so sweet."
The two of them were both incredibly exaggerated.
"You guys eat first, Grandma will go cook." Xu's mother had to take two days off because of some things to do back home, so Lao Li had been staying at the army base.
The two children ate pears while watching TV.
Li Yuan walked to the kitchen door with his hands behind his back, watching his wife's busy figure.
I haven't had her cooking for several days, and I really miss it.
Chen Shufang turned her head and saw a tall figure, which startled her. "What are you doing standing at the door?"
He scoffed, "Why are you staying so long this time?"
"Han Ting just got back yesterday. I stayed a little longer because I was worried that Jing Jing would be too tired."
Chen Shufang comforted her softly, "Alright, I'll cook some rice later, so eat more."
She knew the old man must miss her.
Upon hearing this, Li Yuan's expression softened.
"I want to eat pork stew with glass noodles."
"Okay, okay, I'll grant your wish."
The two old children broke the ice just like that.
Family compound
With the two children away from home, the house suddenly felt quiet and empty.
But today I'm going out to buy birthday presents for the kids.
The two continued until they reached the second floor of the mall, which mainly sold daily necessities.
"Ah Ting, what do you think we should buy for the children?"
After walking around for a while, she was a little overwhelmed.
Yuanyuan likes dolls, so let's buy her a Barbie doll. As for An'an's birthday present, that's a bit of a dilemma.
"They'll like anything you buy."
When Li Hanting met her gaze, a hint of tenderness appeared in his usually calm and indifferent eyes.
"That being said, I still want to buy things that the kids like."
The sales assistant looked at the couple with envy; it was obvious to everyone that they were very much in love.
"Excuse me, miss, may I ask what your son's personality is like?"
Su Jingjing smiled gently, "My son likes quiet, maybe he's a bit cold."
"How about you try a puzzle? It tests a child's intelligence, and quiet boys usually like it."
Su Jingjing took the puzzle box; it looked pretty good.
