Chapter 42 Delivering Dumplings

The mother and daughter remained silent, the only sound being Yan Xiaoyun's continuous swallowing.

Wu Xiuying didn't expect to say anything to He Zhaodi, who was practically mute, so she picked up a dumpling and deliberately showed off a bite.

"Mmm, this is delicious."

Suddenly she lowered her head, "Xiaoyun, do you want to eat?"

Children are most susceptible to temptation. Sure enough, Yan Xiaoyun was so frightened that she backed away. If you were to ask who she feared most in the compound, besides An'an's mother, it would be Big Fat's mother.

The big fat mom often snatches food from the children, which she doesn't like at all.

Seeing her daughter's panic, He Zhaodi immediately shielded her behind her and said awkwardly with a smile, "Sister-in-law Xiuying, the child is just being silly, please don't take offense."

"My husband is away on a mission tonight, so my daughter and I will just have a quick bite to eat."

She didn't want others to misunderstand her husband. Marrying Yi Kuan was her blessing. If it weren't for Yi Kuan, she would still be suffering under her mother-in-law's torment in the countryside.

She was born with a lowly fate and never had a good day in her parents' home. She was already very content that she could eat her fill after marrying Yi Kuan.

"Oh, I see."

Wu Xiuying frowned. Why was Yan Yikuan going on missions every few days? Was he being given important responsibilities by his superiors?

Doesn't that mean a promotion?

Her husband, Haishan, spends all year in the military; where would he get the chance to get promoted?

"Did your Yi Kuan mention any tasks?"

He Zhaodi responded softly, "No, that's military secret."

Wu Xiuying rolled her eyes, but she understood the strictness of the military and didn't expect He Zhaodi to know anything.

“Your Xiaoyun is still growing, you should buy her more meat. Look at my Da Pang, isn’t he strong and healthy?”

"What they eat is none of your business. If you really care, you can bring them a bowl of dumplings."

Wu Xiuying immediately jumped up, "Why should I give away the dumplings? I..."

The next second, his eyes widened, as big as saucers, "How come it's you?"

Where did Su Jingjing come from?

She gets chills whenever she sees Su Jingjing now.

I glanced at the other person and noticed they were also holding a bowl of dumplings, which looked much more delicious than my own.

Su Jingjing ignored her actions and handed the dumplings in the bowl to He Zhaodi. "Zhaodi, I made a lot of dumplings today. Give a few to Xiaoyun to try."

The two adults present were dumbfounded. The bowl was full of dumplings, not just a few.

He Zhaodi quickly waved her hand, "Jingjing, I can't take this. You take it home for An'an and Yuanyuan to eat."

Each dumpling was plump and juicy, with a thin skin and plenty of filling. It was made with meat, how could she possibly accept it?

Wu Xiuying was drooling; if Su Jingjing hadn't been there, she would have reached out to grab it.

Su Jingjing took her hand and smiled gently, "The two children are already full, and there aren't many dumplings in this bowl, so take it."

"It's late, Xiaoyun must be hungry too. Let's take the child home for dinner first."

After saying that, he gave Zhao Di a wink, signaling her to quickly take the dumplings home, as there was another big, living person watching them intently.

"Why."

He Zhaodi understood immediately, responded crisply, and pulled her daughter back to the room.

At that moment, she felt a pang of regret. She shouldn't have bothered with Jingjing taking those few vegetables.

Last time it was meat buns, this time it's dumplings. They don't have anything valuable to give away, just fresh vegetables from their garden. I'll pick some vegetables for Jingjing and send them over another day.

Wu Xiuying watched longingly as He Zhaodi and her daughter entered the room. She was about to knock on the door, but there was a door god watching her, so she didn't dare to make any rash moves and had to leave in a sorry state.

Sigh, I always lose face in front of Su Jingjing.

Su Jingjing shook her head and continued back home, intending to bring a bowl to Sister-in-law Qiu Rong as well.

Others might think she was foolish for giving away the meat from her home, but Su Jingjing knew that these two people had given the original owner a lot of help, and at the same time, they held the least resentment towards her.

After the meal, the two children, their bellies full, leaned lazily back in their chairs. Li Hanting did not tolerate such behavior and gently scolded them.

"Didn't Dad say that you should get up and move around after you've eaten?"

Su Jingjing, who was doing the same thing, shuddered. Was the man also making veiled accusations against her?

The next second, the two children immediately stood up straight, their posture upright, with the air of soldiers.

"An'an, take your little sister out for a walk to digest her food."

After saying that, he turned to Su Jingjing and asked, "Do you want to go for a walk with the two children?"

"I can clean up the dishes." Her tone was no longer as cold and harsh as before.

Without hesitation, Su Jingjing replied, "That works too."

With their two children not home, the two of them were alone, and the atmosphere was rather awkward.

The next day, before dawn, the man went out to train, and Su Jingjing got up to run with him.

Half an hour later, she returned to the family building, only to find He Zhaodi hesitating at the door.

"Zhao Di, is there something you need?"

Seeing the vibrant Jingjing, He Zhaodi couldn't help but sigh. They were the same age, but Jingjing looked so lively, while she herself had grown old.

"Jingjing, thank you for the dumplings yesterday, they were delicious."

“I don’t have much to offer at home, so I just picked some vegetables and brought them over for you.”

He Zhaodi's words lacked confidence; offering vegetables instead of meat was a choice even a fool wouldn't make.

Su Jingjing noticed Zhao Di's embarrassment, smiled, and immediately took the food, saying with a smile, "I was just worried that we didn't have any vegetables at home, Zhao Di, thank you."

He Zhaodi breathed a sigh of relief. "Then you go ahead and do your work. I'll go back and see if Xiaoyun has woken up yet."

Su Jingjing carried the groceries into the room, just as the two children got up.

Li Yuanyuan ran to her mother's side in a sweet voice and hugged her leg, "Mom, where did you go?"

She was momentarily confused when she woke up early in the morning and didn't see her mother.

"Mom, did you go pick vegetables?"

Su Jingjing raised the vegetables in her hand and used her other hand to stroke the little one's head, smoothing her hair.

"Mom went for a run. These are the vegetables your Aunt Zhaodi brought over. I'll cook them later, okay?"

"good."

Li Yuanyuan responded crisply, "Whatever Mom says is right, Mom is the only one to be respected."

"Go wash up with your brother first."

The little guy happily pulled his older brother to the bathroom.

Su Jingjing plans to cook a pot of porridge, along with some side dishes and yesterday's offal; she believes it will be delicious.

"Mmm, it smells delicious."

After soaking overnight, Su Jingjing's mouth watered uncontrollably at the smell.

She's not bragging, but if she set up a stall, business would come knocking on her door in no time.

After finishing his morning training, Li Hanting was checking the equipment. There would be a military exercise soon, and the equipment could not be damaged in any way.

Liu Yang ran over with small, deliberate steps. "Reporting, Commander, the Chief of Staff is looking for you."

Li Hanting paused, then replied to Xiao Liu, "Understood. Come over and check the equipment. Report any damage to me later."

He clapped his hands, straightened his uniform, and strode forward.

Behind him came Xiao Liu Hongliang's loud reply.
