Su Jingjing checked one last time to make sure there were no hickeys before opening the door and leaving.
"Mom, aren't you hot?"
An'an ran over and hugged her leg, asking in confusion.
Su Jingjing was speechless for a moment, "Um... it's okay, it's not very hot."
Seeing his wife frozen in place, Li Hanting reached out and picked up the brat.
"Little one, don't ask too many questions. Take your sister to wash her hands and eat."
An'an cried out loudly, silently accusing Li Hanting of his behavior.
Su Jingjing was heartbroken and freed her son, saying, "Hey, don't strangle the child."
"Mommy, Daddy is so mean!"
Having found a safe haven, An'an stuck out her tongue at Li Hanting.
Su Jingjing gave the man a reproachful look. "Come on, let's not argue with Dad."
She led her two children to the bathroom to wash their hands, but the man's interruption made An'an completely forget about the topic they had just been discussing.
Li Hanting: "..."
Why does he feel like he's been abandoned by everyone?
The food was especially delicious today. Su Jingjing wondered to herself, "Could this man have really asked the kitchen to prepare special meals for him?"
To her surprise, when faced with her question, Li Hanting readily admitted without any attempt to hide it: "Yes! But don't worry, I paid extra."
As they spoke, Li Hanting thoughtfully placed some shredded potatoes into Su Jingjing's bowl and added, "Try these shredded potatoes and see how they taste. I know you like spicy and sour flavors, so I specifically instructed the chef to make them to your liking."
Su Jingjing did like shredded potatoes, but she quickly replied with some concern, "That's not what I meant. I'm just worried that doing this might attract criticism from others."
After all, some people can't stand seeing others doing better than them.
Li Hanting didn't seem to care much about Su Jingjing's concerns, and explained calmly, "In the army, it's actually allowed to have special treatment, but most people are just reluctant to spend the money. We haven't done anything illegal or disorderly, so there's nothing to worry about."
Su Jingjing thought about it later and realized that it was only once or twice, and no one would bother to gossip about it.
Li Hanting put some more fish on her plate, and Yuanyuan clamored to eat fish too. He was happy to take care of the mother and daughter.
"Honey, I ran into Sister Qiu Rong when I went downstairs today. She wants you to tutor her daughter Miao Miao."
He said it so that Su Jingjing could be mentally prepared.
Su Jingjing looked up at the man, gripping her chopsticks tightly. "So what did you say?"
"I can't answer for you. Sister Qiu Rong might come to see you this afternoon."
Li Hanting picked up some shredded potatoes for his daughter to try, so the little one wouldn't keep thinking about it.
As expected, Yuanyuan's tongue went numb from the spiciness, but he had already prepared warm water and calmly brought it to her lips.
Yuanyuan drank water with gurgling sounds, her two big eyes blinking.
Su Jingjing found it a little funny and picked up a handkerchief to wipe the corner of her mouth.
He joked, "Do you still want some shredded potatoes?"
Yuanyuan shook her head like a rattle drum, waving her little hands around.
"Mom, I don't want to eat anymore."
Even so, I still can't figure it out. How could Mom eat something so spicy?
Su Jingjing seemed to see through her little thoughts and said with a smile, "Look, your brother can also eat spicy food. He inherited it from Mom."
An'an paused, looking left and right, unsure how to deal with the potato shreds on her chopsticks.
"Eat."
Su Jingjing said softly, and only then did An'an pick up her chopsticks.
Yuanyuan turned to look at Li Hanting, puffing out her cheeks, and said angrily, "Dad, did I inherit this from you?"
Li Hanting was taken aback, then took a bite of the shredded potato and said, "Look, Dad can eat spicy food too."
Yuanyuan immediately turned into a bitter face, sob... She doesn't resemble anyone, could she have been adopted?
"You probably inherited it from your grandfather; he couldn't eat spicy food either."
Yuanyuan recalled every moment she spent with her grandfather, and it seemed that it really was true.
Okay, at least she wasn't adopted.
Seeing that his daughter was no longer insisting on eating spicy food, Li Hanting then looked at Su Jingjing and asked, "Wife, what do you think?"
"If you don't want to tutor, your husband will help you make excuses."
"Wait a minute," Su Jingjing said. "I didn't say I wouldn't tutor."
She poked at the rice in her bowl. "Miaomiao is a well-behaved and sensible child. I'd be happy to tutor her."
Fortunately, there wasn't another child in the compound who was in junior or senior high school, otherwise she really wouldn't be able to handle it all.
After dinner, the mother and her two children snuggled on the sofa eating fruit, while Li Hanting cleaned up the dishes by himself.
A few minutes later, Li Hanting sat down next to Su Jingjing without saying a word and said to An An and Yuan Yuan, "Go back to your room and do your homework. You need to take a nap later."
Yuanyuan said in a sweet, childish voice, "Daddy, I want to watch TV for a while longer."
Su Jingjing also found it strange; it wasn't even midnight yet, and it was a bit early to send the children back to sleep.
"Ah Ting, it's still early, let the children watch for a while longer."
The man looked down into her eyes, and she began to have a vague understanding.
He's up to no good again. Since that's the case, we absolutely can't let the children into the house, or she'll be in trouble.
Unable to refuse her pleading gaze, Li Hanting had no choice but to change his mind, "Then let's watch for another ten minutes."
"Dad is so good!"
Yuanyuan said with a grin, thinking that Li Hanting felt sorry for her.
What a beautiful misunderstanding.
When it was time for a nap, Su Jingjing was already a little sleepy, but when she learned that Li Hanting still had to go out to work, her sleepiness vanished instantly, replaced by a heart full of reluctance and heartache.
Looking at the handsome and dashing man in front of her, Su Jingjing couldn't help but reach out and gently stroke his cheek. "Didn't you say you took the day off today?"
Li Hanting sensed Su Jingjing's worry and concern, and gazed at her tenderly. Then, he slowly reached out and touched her delicate, smooth face, as white as mutton-fat jade.
"Feeling sorry for me?"
"We should have sent those two little light bulbs back to their room just now, so we could have had some fun together."
The man couldn't stay serious for more than two seconds. Su Jingjing withdrew her hand, blushing, and asked, "Why is this all you can think about?"
Li Hanting grabbed her hand and kissed it, saying, "Wife, if I didn't want to think about this, you would be worried."
“I’ve piling up my morning work into the afternoon. If you come back too late, you and the kids can eat first. Don’t wait for me.”
Su Jingjing suddenly didn't know what to say to him. If she had known it would be like this, she definitely wouldn't have let him do such a thing this morning.
"Try to come back as soon as possible, the children and I are waiting for you."
A family should be complete; it's not as good when anyone is missing.
"Okay." Li Hanting kissed her cheek one last time, walked to the entrance to change his shoes and go out. He did it all in one smooth motion, afraid that if he hesitated any longer, he wouldn't be able to leave the house today.
Hearing the door close, Su Jingjing paused for a moment, then went into the second bedroom to check if the children were asleep.
