Chapter 62 Three Women Make a Drama

When the father and son returned to their apartment building after getting their food, they were met with a chorus of boasts from a group of women downstairs.

There was envy in her eyes, but her mouth was unforgiving.

"Tsk tsk tsk, different people have different fates. She can choose not to cook if she wants to, but what can she do when she marries Commander Li?"

A wealthy man has no worries about food and drink; when a man is capable, a woman can have an easy life.

Unlike them, who have elderly parents to care for and young children to raise, and whose husbands send at least half of their monthly allowance back to their hometowns, their lives are very tight. They occasionally have to treat their children to a special treat, and they absolutely won't buy any daily necessities or clothes if they can use them.

Wu Xiuying stopped mending clothes. Da Pang was jumping around all day long, his clothes were torn to shreds, and he kept clamoring to buy new clothes. But where would their family get the money to buy new clothes? They could only mend and patch for another three years.

Hearing the praise of Su Jingjing from those around her, she immediately became dissatisfied, "Hmph... if she hadn't used tricks, would she have been able to marry Commander Li?"

Back then, everyone knew about this, and Su Jingjing's belly was lucky enough to give birth to twins, a boy and a girl, so the Li family had no choice but to suffer in silence.

"That's because they're good at it."

Someone defended Su Jingjing, saying she got it through trickery, but as time went on, no one cared about the reasons anymore; all that remained was endless envy.

Ge Hong overheard everyone talking about Su Jingjing and curiously hid in a corner to listen for a while.

The more he listened, the angrier he became, not expecting that it was all praise for Su Jingjing.

In the past, everyone in the residential compound, except for Sister Qiu Rong, would only praise her. They envied her good family background, good marriage, and good job. How come the situation is reversed now?

For some reason, she just couldn't stand Su Jingjing. Why should a country woman like her be able to marry into the Li family?

She had once married Li Hanting, but she was afraid of men's faces, so she kept her feelings to herself and married Yang Wei instead.

Who knew that Yang Wei was just a good-for-nothing, all talk and no action, with no money, no power, and no ambition.

She regrets it terribly now.

Ge Hong composed herself and slowly walked past, but was still stopped by someone.

Wu Xiuying shouted in her loud voice, and everyone looked over, "Xiao Hong is off work?"

Ge Hong turned her back to everyone and frowned in disgust. She hated Wu Xiuying's voice. A country person is a country person. Even if she eats city food now, she still can't get rid of her rural accent and speaks with a rustic accent.

Turning back to his face, he adopted a kind and friendly expression, smiling at Wu Xiuying and asking, "Sister-in-law Xiuying, is there something you need?"

Then she looked at the others and asked, "Are the ladies chatting? Have they eaten yet?"

Everyone looked at each other in bewilderment. When did Ge Hong become so easy to talk to?

In their minds, Ge Hong and Su Jingjing were the same kind of people, always looking down on others. However, Ge Hong kept herself clean and tidy, making her less annoying.

An older woman immediately realized what was going on and said with a smile, "Yes, Xiao Hong just got off work."

Ge Hong nodded, but inwardly she disdained chatting with them.

Wu Xiuying poked her head with a needle; it was inevitably a little itchy because she hadn't washed her hair for several days.

She noticed what the other person was holding. "What is Xiao Hong holding? It looks so mysterious."

Xiao Hong comes from a well-off family and often manages to get some money back from her parents' home. Every time I see her, I can't help but feel envious.

She is a teacher herself and earns a good salary each month, unlike them who don't earn a penny and are looked down upon by employers when they try to find work.

Ge Hong frowned slightly; as expected, being targeted by Wu Xiuying meant nothing good.

"Oh, these are pastries my mom brought me this morning. Would you ladies like to try some?"

She said those last words with great pain in her heart.

Wu Xiuying immediately agreed, and was about to put down the clothes she was holding, saying, "Okay..."

Suddenly realizing that everyone was staring at her, she instantly understood and awkwardly sat down again, laughing to cover it up, "Um... I was just kidding, Xiao Hong, don't mind me."

Ge Hong concealed her disgust and played along, saying, "Sister-in-law Xiuying, I know you're joking."

"Sisters-in-law, please chat first. Yang Wei is waiting for me to come home for dinner."

The women under the big tree, like wolves and tigers, stared intently at Ge Hong's swaying back. Her hair was permed like a bird's nest, and they all looked down on her as a "vixen."

Ge Hong opened her own door, and the moment she closed it, her face turned pale and then flushed. She slammed the key onto the corner of the table.

Yang Wei hadn't noticed Ge Hong's anger yet. While serving the dishes, he said to the outside, "Wife, you're back. Go wash your hands and eat."

To his surprise, the other party remained motionless, and only then did he realize something was wrong. Why was Xiao Hong's face contorted?

She swallowed hard and asked cautiously, "Xiao Hong, what's wrong? Are you having trouble at work?"

"If you're really unhappy, we'll quit our jobs, and I'll support you."

He patted his chest proudly as he spoke.

Ge Hong did get angry at some students sometimes and often came home in a bad mood. He subconsciously thought that this time would be the same and that he could just coax them.

Unexpectedly, Ge Hong snorted coldly and spoke recklessly, "You support me? With your meager monthly allowance, how many meals of meat can you afford?"

Yang Wei paused, his face pale and extremely unpleasant. It is a disgrace for any man to be accused of being useless by his wife.

I never expected Ge Hong to think this way. Where did my usually understanding wife go?

He retorted coldly, "Didn't you already know that when you married me?"

What does "now" mean?

Since getting married, she has doted on Ge Hong, always going along with her wishes. She never stops Ge Hong from doing whatever she wants, and she also manages the family finances.

Since she married him against her family's wishes, he should cherish her and give her the best life possible.

Unexpectedly, all of this was so ridiculous; in Ge Hong's mind, he was so useless.

Ge Hong initially wanted to retort, but seeing Yang Wei's serious expression, she realized that her words might have been a bit too much. However, she couldn't bring herself to back down, stammering, "I..."

"You can eat by yourself. I'm going out for a walk."

After Yang Wei finished speaking, he slammed the door and left, fearing that if he stayed any longer, things would only get worse for the two of them.

Ge Hong was startled by the sound of the door slamming, but when she saw the food on the table, her heart softened. Apart from being poor, Yang Wei seemed to treat her quite well.

But you can't blame her. She's very competitive and can't stand seeing others doing better than her. If Yang Wei were as rich as Li Hanting, that would be wonderful.

Yang Wei, who slammed the door and left, did not leave the family compound. He did not want to be laughed at by the group of women, so he went to the rooftop to sunbathe.

Huang Qiurong was airing out the quilts when she saw Yang Wei rushing up angrily. She couldn't help but ask in surprise, "Yang Wei, why are you up here?"

"Are you here to collect the blankets?"

It seems that Ge Hong also hung her quilt out to dry on the roof this morning.
