Chapter 9 An'an's Awkwardness

After blanching, looking at the plump and tender pig intestines, Su Jingjing suddenly looked forward to the braised pig intestines. She would let them simmer slowly in the pot, and with her secret braising sauce, the aroma would surely be irresistible.

Looking at the clock on the living room wall, and knowing that Li Hanting would be back soon, she decided to show them what she could do today.

In fact, every time Li Hanting went to the canteen to get food, the women in the family compound would whisper behind his back, saying it was a pity he married such a lazy woman.

People often say that one should marry a virtuous wife, but when you return home, you not only won't get a hot meal, but you'll also have to clean up the mess left by the previous owner.

Suddenly, there was a loud bang at the door.

Su Jingjing's heart skipped a beat. She peeked out from the kitchen and met Li Cheng'an's eyes. Time seemed to stand still as the two stared at each other.

In the end, Su Jingjing was the first to react, and smiled, "You're back. The food will be ready soon. Take your sister to wash her hands first."

Li Cheng'an rubbed his eyes hard, then opened them and saw the old hag still standing there smiling.

"Brother, it smells good."

Li Yuanyuan smelled the aroma and secretly swallowed. Then she tugged at her brother's sleeve and whispered, afraid that her mother would hear her.

Li Cheng'an suddenly realized what was happening. The old hag hadn't left; she was even cooking something delicious in the kitchen. No, he couldn't be tempted by the old hag, but it smelled so good!

He was playing downstairs with his sister when Da Pang suddenly came running over, panting, saying that his mother was back.

The old witch is back??

He was so shocked that he checked several times before grabbing his sister's hand and running home, ignoring even the loud calls from Da Pang behind him.

Although he wished he didn't have a mother like that every time she beat him, he felt no joy when he heard she was leaving this morning.

"Yuanyuan, why are you looking at Mommy like that?"

Su Jingjing felt that everyone was acting strangely today. Could it be that she had changed too much?

She reached out to touch Yuanyuan's hair, but Yuanyuan quickly pulled her hand back, leaving her hand hanging in mid-air, looking slightly embarrassed.

Didn't you leave with your bag this morning?

Li Cheng'an pulled his sister away from the old hag and said coldly, "Could it be that you've remembered Dad's money jar again halfway through?"

Forehead...

She left with her bag; how could she not know?

Amidst the lightning and thunder, he suddenly remembered the woman he had seen that morning and couldn't help but pat his forehead.

broken!!

She must have been spreading rumors in the family compound. No wonder she kept staring at the package this morning, and the group of women downstairs looked shocked.

That explains everything.

Seeing the old hag's strange expression, Li Cheng'an thought to himself, "Oh no, the old hag is about to lose her temper again!"

The next second, she immediately grabbed her younger sister and ran outside, so fast that Su Jingjing couldn't stop her.

Today, the military compound was filled with the aroma of food, making the soldiers who had just returned home hungry. They were all discussing who was cooking such delicious food.

They quickened their pace as they chatted and laughed, since they had already digested what they had learned in the morning after a whole morning of training.

Li Hanting walked calmly behind, completely ignoring the conversation in front. However, the aroma of the food reminded him of the delicious meal he had last night.

Realizing he was thinking of that woman, he frowned. He didn't believe that woman would leave forever. She would spend all her money outside and eventually come back looking disheveled.

However, he really needs to re-examine this marriage. Su Jingjing's actions have already caused some psychological trauma to the two children.

Li Cheng'an pulled his younger sister downstairs, where they ran into their father who had just returned. Excitedly calling out "Dad!", Yuan Yuan immediately hugged her father's leg.

Li Hanting assumed the two children were hungry and asked in a low, hoarse voice, "Are you hungry?"

"Dad will go get the lunchbox and serve the food."

Seeing his younger sister shaking her head frantically, Li Cheng'an became anxious and his face turned ashen. He hurriedly said, "Dad, Dad, the old hag is back. She's cooking in the kitchen, and it smells so good."

As she spoke, she unconsciously licked her lips, while Yuanyuan nodded frantically beside her like a sparrow.

Li Hanting stood frozen in disbelief. So quickly, the money was all gone?

When the father and his two sons pushed open the door and came in, they saw Su Jingjing carrying a plate of stir-fried pork with green peppers. She said to them warmly, "You're back. Go wash your hands and eat."

Then he turned and went into the kitchen.

After the old hag entered the kitchen, Li Cheng'an let go of his father's hand and hurriedly ran to the dining table. On the table were a meat dish and a vegetable dish, which looked tempting and smelled delicious. He couldn't help but swallow.

Then Su Jingjing brought out a plate of steaming hot pig intestines. After soaking in brine for two hours, the pig intestines were soft and fragrant, and it was hard to imagine that they smelled bad.

Two meat dishes and one vegetable dish—I wouldn't dare eat like that even during Chinese New Year.

She probably didn't have much money left, but no matter how much she spent, it was at least for food, not for fancy luxury items.

Watching the father and his two sons working diligently, Su Jingjing was overjoyed. It seemed that delicious food could indeed win people's hearts.

She secretly picked up a piece of meat with her chopsticks and put it into the round bowl. The little one didn't dare to pick up any other vegetables, but just kept her head down and stirred the rice in the bowl.

Li Yuanyuan looked up at her mother in shock, completely at a loss for what to do.

"Eat up, I'll get you more if you're still hungry."

Su Jingjing said gently, then put some meat on An'an's plate, but he didn't appreciate it at all. He hurriedly moved the bowl away and said arrogantly, "I don't need your fake kindness."

Li Hanting rebuked him, his tone icy.

"An'an..."

His father's scolding silenced him temporarily. He lowered his head and bit down hard on the meat in his mouth, as if venting his anger.

Su Jingjing hesitated whether to explain what happened this morning to Li Hanting. Seeing his calm face, she wondered if he had also misunderstood.

No!!

As promised, she was going to turn over a new leaf. She slowly began, "Well... this morning I noticed there was no rice or flour in the kitchen, so I went to the city to buy some."

After the explanation, apart from the clatter of bowls and chopsticks, no one at the dinner table uttered a sound.

Su Jingjing quietly looked up at the man who was as steady as Mount Tai, her heart pounding, wondering if he had listened to her.

Then the man changed the subject and asked a trivial question.

"What kind of meat is this?" he asked with a stern expression.

Su Jingjing was completely bewildered, looking down at the almost empty pig intestines, never expecting that the man liked this dish so much.

"Pig intestines."

"Cough cough..."

The man's face turned pale and then red, and he suddenly felt his stomach churning. He never imagined that such chewy meat was actually pig intestines.

The two siblings were puzzled by their father's actions and quickly stopped eating, but they were still chewing on pig intestines.

Su Jingjing blinked. Was the pig intestines reacting that strongly?

She was afraid that if she didn't explain, the man might keep staring at the dish, so she said softly, "If you clean pig intestines properly, they taste even better than meat."

"Eat up, there's more in the pot. How can you, a dignified regimental commander, complain about pig intestines?"

Perhaps the provocation worked, because the man glanced at her quietly the next second, then picked up his chopsticks and began eating pig intestines one after another, as if he wanted to finish them off!
