Chapter 1: Sweeping Out

"Anyway, we don't want this child anymore. My own child is crying with hunger, so how can I feed her?"

The fat woman tugged at her gray patched jacket and stood at the door with her arms folded.

A little girl of five or six years old was blocked outside the door by her. There was a bloody bump on her head and she wanted to cry but didn't dare to.

"Zhuangzhuang's mother, you should have a conscience. You have been married to the Tian family for several years without giving birth. Thanks to this child, we have Zhuangzhuang and Xinxin. Now you are driving her out. Aren't you pushing the child to death?" Aunt Wang next door couldn't stand it anymore.

"Do you have a conscience? Take her home. You've already given birth to three money-losing babies, so this one won't make a difference. At most, you'll be beaten to death by your man." The fat woman rolled her eyes and sneered.

"Li Qiuju, you should be more careful with your words. You will get your comeuppance sooner or later!" Aunt Wang was so angry that she was shaking. She glanced at the little girl, sighed and left.

The person who stepped forward was stabbed, and the onlookers suddenly quieted down.

Just as the situation was at a stalemate, someone shouted, "The village chief is here."

Everyone made way, and the village chief walked through the crowd and came to the front.

He was wearing a gray coat that was pale but had no patches, and a pair of black cloth shoes with layered soles.

"Zhuangzhuang's mother, when your uncle found this child, several families wanted him, but you snatched him away. Now the child is eight years old and you're giving him away. Who wants him? Where's Tian Laosan? Let him out. This matter needs the final say from a man."

The village chief tapped his pipe on the sole of his shoe a few times and blew out a smoke ring.

"Oh my god, there's no way out! Tian Laosan is a coward who can't even make a fart. You let him make the final decision, and what you say goes? You're bullying me!"

Li Qiuju cried and wailed, pulled out a tattered bundle from behind the door, threw it over her shoulder, and was about to go out with her son Zhuangzhuang.

"Wangshan Village can no longer accommodate us. I'm going back to my parents' home with my child. You can let Tian Lao San raise that little bastard."

Everyone hurriedly stopped Li Qiuju and advised her not to be impulsive.

"How can I not be impulsive? We haven't harvested a single grain of food this year. In a few days, there won't even be any tree roots left to eat. Our whole family will starve to death." Li Qiuju shouted, "Village Chief, it's not that I'm heartless, it's just that this world won't allow it. If you stay with my family, you'll starve to death sooner or later. It's better to send you out. Maybe there's still a chance of survival."

As soon as these words were spoken, everyone fell silent.

In this year of famine, no one had extra food. Two days ago, two elderly people in the village tied themselves to the road with a hemp rope in order to save food for their family.

If there was no other way, who would take that path?

The village chief puffed on his pipe, his dark face covered with wrinkles, like the cracked ground after a long drought.

Everyone sighed, and no one noticed that a glint of shock flashed in the eyes of the little girl who lowered her head.

Tian Chengcheng never dreamed that she would be transported into a period novel she had just read.

She became the cannon fodder female supporting character Fubao in the book.

Fubao was an abandoned baby who was picked up by the youngest son of the Tian family and given to his third brother's family who had no children.

Life was okay at first, but then his adoptive mother Li Qiuju gave birth to twins, a boy and a girl, and little Fubao became pitiful.

He got up early and went to bed late to take care of the family. He was not well fed or clothed, and was despised, beaten and scolded at every turn. He was so thin that only a pair of big eyes were left.

Li Qiuju always felt scared when she saw her, and since there was a famine and food was scarce, she was determined to kick her out of the house.

In desperation, the village stepped in and allowed her to continue living in Tian Laosan's house, with every household in the village taking turns providing her with meals.

In this way, little Fubao grew up eating food from hundreds of families.

However, when she was sixteen years old, Li Qiuju sold Xiao Fubao to a lame young man from the next village in order to pay for her two children's tuition.

The young man was honest and capable, and he was good to little Fubao, so the two of them lived a pretty good life.

But Li Qiuju was like a vampire, going to plunder every now and then. When she saw that there was nothing left to plunder, she accepted the betrothal gift from another old bachelor and forced Xiao Fubao to remarry.

Extremely desperate, in order not to implicate the man, Xiao Fubao ran to the door of Li Qiuju's house, drank a bottle of pesticide, and ended his life at the age of 20.

When Tian Chengcheng traveled through time, Li Qiuju was about to kick Fubao out of the house.

She was so angry that she wanted to hit someone!

"Zhuangzhuang's mother, let the child go back first, and let the villagers discuss how to solve the problem." The village chief said.

"No, there's no food for her at home."

Li Qiuju leaned against the door frame, determined not to let Tian Chengcheng in.

The village chief took two puffs of his cigarette, gritted his teeth, and shouted to a young man with a flat head, "Huzi, go home and ask your mother to give Fubao two steamed buns, and tell her I told you to."

Only then did Li Qiuju relax.

"Grandpa Fang, I want to go take care of grandma." Tian Chengcheng looked up at the village chief, his big dark eyes looking pitiful.

She thought about it and decided to make the best of it. With her abilities, she would definitely be able to do well, provided she could get rid of the evil woman Li Qiuju.

Otherwise, you will just live in dire straits like little Fubao.

In the current plot, Old Mrs. Tian is seriously ill. Li Qiuju not only refuses to take care of her, but also refuses to let her husband go.

Tian Hengyuan, the youngest son of the Tian family, had to take leave to take care of him.

Tian Hengyuan is the only college student in the village and the pride of the village.

Because of this matter, the village chief went to Tian Laosan's house several times.

But all Li Qiuju did was to play the victim and cry, make a fuss and even threaten to hang herself, while Tian Laosan was a coward, and the village chief would always leave in anger with a fuming look on his face.

If she takes care of the old lady, Tian Hengyuan can go to school, and the village chief will definitely agree.

"Fubao is a good boy, so go and take care of grandma." The village chief touched Tian Chengcheng's head and sighed.

"Thank you, Grandpa Fang." Tian Chengcheng thanked him obediently.

The big misty eyes are adorable.

The village chief took a puff of his cigarette. He was a good boy. If he didn't already have four sons at home, he would have wanted to take the boy home.

Li Qiuju saw the two steamed buns in her mouth fly away, so she raised her hand and hit Tian Chengcheng.

"You ungrateful loser! I've spent eight years raising you, and now you're trying to serve that old bastard?"

Li Qiuju's slap was bigger than Tian Chengcheng's little face. If she got hit by it, she would be half dead.

The village chief hurriedly pulled Tian Chengcheng behind him and yelled, "Li Qiuju, what are you doing? If you want to beat a child, go beat your own. Beat him to death and no one will care!"

Li Qiuju put one hand on her waist, lowered her triangular eyes, and started yelling.

"I raised her with all my hard work, and you're not going to let me hit her? You're just bullying me for marrying a loser. I'd rather die."

Li Qiuju was used to throwing tantrums, so she pulled a rope and threw it onto the door frame, intending to hang herself up.

The village chief was so angry that his face turned blue.

The Tian family is so unlucky that they married such a scoundrel and a shrew.

But he didn't dare to say anything harsh. If someone really died, not only would the village be in trouble, but there would also be another bachelor and two children. Who would take care of them?

"Tian Laosan, take care of your wife!" The village chief saw Tian Laosan hiding behind and scolded.
