"This Fengyoujing is amazing! My whole body feels cool and I don't feel hot or itchy anymore."
Song Chi, who had already applied the medicine, looked down at the little red spot on his leg and poked it with his pink little finger.
Lu Yanchen, who was sitting beside the bed, stared at the almost used-up Fengyoujing without saying a word.
Normally, my mother is reluctant to use it. She only uses a little when she is bitten by mosquitoes a lot. But now, it is almost used up in the blink of an eye.
Lu Yanchen was not angry, but was thinking about finding time to go to the county town to buy a few more bottles of Fengyoujing as a backup. With Song Chi's physique, he definitely could not do without Fengyoujing.
"Aren't you going to sleep yet?"
Song Chi lay down holding the teddy bear, blinking her beautiful eyes at Lu Yanchen.
Lu Yanchen didn't answer. He put the medicated oil on the old bedside table beside him and then lay down beside Song Chi, put his hands on his abdomen and closed his eyes.
Song Chi immediately moved closer to Lu Yanchen, raised his head and spoke in a low voice, "I can't sleep, tell me a story."
"Won't."
"Then sing."
"Won't."
Song Chi pursed his lips, "Then what can you do?"
Lu Yanchen opened his eyes, frowned at Song Chi who leaned towards him with his head raised, and ordered him, "Close your eyes and go to sleep."
"But the Fengyoujing is too cold and I can't sleep." Song Chi said in a wronged voice.
Lu Yanchen was having a headache. If he didn't apply the medicated oil, he would scratch himself and couldn't sleep. If he did, he would feel too cold to sleep. He was really hard to please.
"Then touch my head. I will fall asleep after you touch me for a while."
Song Chi took Lu Yanchen's big hand and placed it on his soft little head. He pursed his lips and looked at Lu Yanchen with a pleading look. This was how his grandmother usually coaxed him when he couldn't sleep.
Lu Yanchen took another deep breath and stroked Song Chi's head without much care.
"You're patting the dog's head, be gentle!"
"Shut up and go to sleep."
Lu Yanchen's patience had run out. If Song Chi wasn't good-looking, he would have thrown Song Chi outside the house to feed the mosquitoes.
After being yelled at, Song Chi quickly pulled up the thin sheet, closed his eyes, and lay on his side next to Lu Yanchen, not daring to move.
Lu Yanchen was somewhat speechless. When he was not afraid of him, he dared to ask for anything, but when he was afraid of him, he dared not even fart. He was simply a contradiction.
Song Chi had no choice. He had been spoiled since he was a child. When he was spoiled, he wanted to throw a tantrum. When he threw a tantrum, he forgot that Lu Yanchen was the villain.
Huh~ He didn’t seem angry, and didn’t hit me. I was scared to death.
I have to be more careful next time and not make the villain angry. What if the villain gets angry and kills me?
As Song Chi thought about this, he slowly fell asleep holding the teddy bear in his arms. The little one nestled beside Lu Yanchen, breathing steadily.
Lu Yanchen, who was lying flat on his back, glanced at Song Chi who was lying facing him and stared at him intently.
The sleeping Song Chi looked even more delicate and well-behaved, with soft hair scattered around her ears and her chest rising and falling slowly.
Lu Yanchen did not touch Song Chi. He covered Song Chi with a thin quilt, picked up a palm-leaf fan, and fanned Song Chi while swatting away mosquitoes.
Without the buzzing of mosquitoes in his ears, Song Chi's breathing became more even and he fell into a deep sleep.
“Ohhhh~”
The crowing of roosters broke the silence of the early morning.
“Ohhhh~”
The roosters from other houses were not to be outdone. Their crowing sounds echoed throughout the village, accompanied by the chirping of birds and the occasional barking of dogs. A new day had arrived.
Within ten minutes, the whole village was filled with curling smoke.
There were the sounds of children crying, the quarrels between the mother-in-law and the daughter-in-law, and the gongs and drums beaten by the village cadres to wake them up.
Song Chi was awakened by the clanging sound. He opened his eyes in a daze, looking as if he hadn't reacted.
It took him a long time to remember that he was in a book. The noise that made his head hurt was the sound of gongs and drums from the Eighth Brigade reminding the villagers to get up and get ready for work.
“It’s so noisy!”
Song Chi frowned and covered his ears, feeling grumpy after waking up.
"You're already going to work and you're still sleeping."
Lu Xiao entered the room and shouted to Song Chi, who was curled up on the bed, and went to the closet to help Lu Yanchen get his coat.
Song Chi reluctantly got up from the bed and asked weakly, "I just arrived yesterday, do I have to go to work today?"
"I've already given you a night's rest, what else do you want?"
"There's a lot of rice, peanuts, potatoes, and other crops that need to be harvested, and the children at home have to go to work. Do you think you, a sent-down youth, can sit back and do nothing?"
"You have task targets at the educated youth camp. Don't tell me you don't know."
Song Chi, with sleepy eyes, recalled the plot and it really happened. The educated youth had their own work to do, and everyone had to divide the work and complete it. If they held back other educated youth, they would be scolded.
Song Chi has lost all desire in life. Is he the kind of person who can work? He will be scolded to death by others.
"Hurry up and get up. My brother has prepared breakfast. Once you're full, we'll take you to work."
After Lu Xiao finished speaking, he took Lu Yanchen's coat and left the room.
Song Chi had no choice but to get up, wash and change clothes.
When Song Chi entered the main house, Lu Yanchen, Lu Lan and Lu Xiao all stared at him closely.
"Why are you looking at me like that!" Song Chi didn't understand.
Lu Yanchen frowned, "You only have shorts and short-sleeved shirts?"
"yes!"
After hearing this, Lu Yanchen didn't want to talk anymore. Is this young master really coming to the countryside to be an educated youth?
"It's okay, it's okay. People like Song Zhiqing should be assigned to pick peanuts. Shorts and short sleeves won't be a problem." Lu Lan hurriedly tried to smooth things over.
As Lu Lan said, Captain Wang, who was in charge of arranging work at the educated youth point, gave Song Chi the job of picking peanuts. After all, there was no way he could be asked to harvest rice in the way Song Chi was dressed.
The people at the educated youth camp were dissatisfied and said sourly, "If I had known earlier, I would have dressed like this. Maybe Captain Wang would have given me some easier work because of my attire."
