Xiao Cheng, who was racing against time to hunt mutant deer, carried the corpses of more than 20 mutant deer, piled them up like a small mountain, and quickly teleported back to the base and rushed to the shantytown.
The shantytown is not busy during the day.
Most people work in the base to build houses, while the other half go out to fight zombies and earn crystal cores.
The rest are elderly people with physical disabilities and children who are unable to do heavy work.
They were originally cleaning the shantytown and picking up bottles on the ground, when they heard a loud bang, as if the earth was shaking, which scared them so much that their faces turned pale.
The elders thought it was zombies that had invaded the base, so they quickly scooped up the children and hid behind the shed, comforting them with trembling voices, "It's okay, it's okay. The uncles and aunties outside will drive the zombies away."
The children also thought that the wall had been broken through and zombies had entered the base. They were so scared that they hid in the old man's arms and covered their mouths and cried.
But after about a minute, no screams were heard in the shantytown.
The old people were a little confused. They covered the children's eyes and nervously looked out of the shed.
They first saw a gust of sandstorm, and after the sandstorm passed, they saw the mutant deer corpses piled up like a hill next to the small house.
The old man covered his chest and said, "It turns out that someone went hunting and killed a mutant deer. It scared me to death."
The two soldiers standing guard in front of the small house were the most frightened, and their eyes were still wide open.
They just watched a bunch of mutant deer with their eyes wide open appear out of nowhere, and they were almost scared to death.
A soldier sighed and said, "We need to get the colonel to take care of Xiao Cheng. Don't you know if this sudden incident will scare people to death?"
They all knew that these mutant deer were brought back by Xiao Cheng after hunting, and Xiao Yi had already informed them in advance using the walkie-talkie.
But they never expected that Xiao Cheng would suddenly appear out of nowhere, and they were not mentally prepared at all.
"Wow, it's meat. Lots of meat."
The children ran out from behind the shed, their eyes shining as they looked up at the pile of mutant deer corpses.
For them, as long as they have food to eat, they are very happy. They are not picky about food, and currently they do not have the conditions to be picky about food.
The happy old people said, "Hurry up, go home and get a knife, let's dismember the mutant deer."
"good."
The children ran home happily.
They can't fight zombies and can't go to construction sites, but their knife skills are unquestionable, and dismembering a mutant deer is no problem.
The soldiers were not surprised.
It's the end of the world, and it's not surprising that children all have their own skills.
An old man dragged the mutant deer with great effort towards the water pipe next to the small house and said, "Let's prepare the mutant deer meat first. We can roast it when the young people get home from work."
Other old people, “Okay.”
Two soldiers nearby dropped their weapons and went to help.
Now there was no one queuing up to get water in front of the small house, and they had some free time, so they rolled up their sleeves and worked together to deal with the mutant deer.
The survivors who had just entered the shantytown today were all surprised that the soldiers would actually help.
The children and the elderly here are very self-conscious and have a clear division of labor. After a while, they were sitting in front of the small house and peeling the mutant deer skin together. The atmosphere was very good.
"Should we...should we go help?"
A man asked the people around him.
The man next to him didn't know whether he should go or not.
They are now considered outsiders, and if they keep coming up like this, others might think they are just trying to help because they are greedy for meat.
In the shed next to them, an old man with a broken leg and a cane came out with a kitchen knife and said to them, "Everyone in the shantytown will get a share of the mutant deer meat. No one will say you're trying to steal their meat."
After saying that, the uncle walked up to the small house with his crutches and worked with the elderly and children.
The new survivors looked at each other, and finally rolled up their sleeves and walked towards the small house with their own knives for self-defense.
The old men who were handling the mutant deer looked up at the new faces and asked enthusiastically, "I haven't seen you before! You came in today, didn't you?"
"Don't be shy, come on, sit next to me, the old man."
"People in our shantytown are very friendly. Don't be afraid."
"If you have any questions, you can ask us. We clean the streets in the shantytown during the day. You can see us when you come out of the shantytown."
“Okay…Okay.”
More than a dozen young people joined in, squatting and sitting next to the elderly to lend a hand.
Someone curiously asked, "Is this mutant deer free?"
The old man, who was still peeling the mutant deer skin with his head down, smiled back, "It's free, just like lunch, but we have to deal with it ourselves."
"Not everyone eats these mutant deer now. Those who can afford it buy them from vending machines, or go to the supermarket and buy vegetables and cook them themselves."
"Only some people without labor force would eat this mutant deer."
"Don't be fooled by the fact that the meat doesn't taste good, it's actually very filling."
The new survivors were given new insights.
These mutant deer are obviously level three or four. They can’t even hunt them outside to eat, but the survivors in the Firelight Base don’t eat them?
This is still just a shantytown. How good must the lives of the survivors living on the streets be!
They were handling the mutant deerskin, looking at each other in surprise, and seeing disbelief in each other's eyes.
Now they are really glad that they came to the Huoguang Base. They did not listen to others' words that the Huoguang Base was poor and change their route to the base in the next city.
The gentleman father and son who were doing research came back from killing zombies outside the base and saw others dealing with mutant deer, so they washed their hands and joined in.
