Chapter 3 Encountering a Poisonous Spider, Life Hangs by a Thread

"Going up the mountain to gather herbs again?" The people working in the fields greeted Lin Jingge.

He was very hospitable; Lin Jingge was able to stay in Qingyun Village thanks to him—the village chief's son, Shen Ting.

Lin Jingge responded a few times and went up the mountain with her basket on her back.

They were newcomers, and with their last bit of money they had spent on houses, they had no choice but to return to their old profession in order to make a living.

Fortunately, Qingyun Village is backed by a large mountain range, and there are many wild animals in the mountains, so few people go up the mountain.

Lin Jingge dared not venture any deeper, and could only look for medicinal herbs nearby that she could sell.

"Wow, am I really lucky?!" Lin Jingge murmured as she looked at the ginseng in front of her. She had never seen a thousand-year-old purple ginseng before in her life!

She cautiously approached and carefully observed her surroundings. The purple ginseng had no guardian beast.

Lin Jingge took out a small hoe and carefully dug.

Before her little hoe could even fall, she felt a jolt in her heart and dodged to the side.

Black venom sprayed onto the spot where she had just been.

She looked up and met the enormous object in front of her.

The venom was sprayed by a giant poisonous spider; when the venom landed on the ground, the surrounding vegetation withered instantly.

Only then did Lin Jingge realize that she had unknowingly entered an illusion. There was no trace of the thousand-year-old purple ginseng in front of her. She had been lured into the mountains by the illusion created by the poisonous spider.

Ordinary wild beasts do not possess such abilities. All these signs indicate that Lin Jingge is not facing a wild beast, but a monster far more ferocious than any wild beast!

He didn't even have time to pick up the hoe before turning and running away.

Knowing that she couldn't outrun the poisonous spider, Lin Jingge simply slid down the sloping mountain path.

At this moment, someone from Lin Jingge's home came to visit urgently.

The person who came to the door was Shen Ting, who had greeted Lin Jingge that morning.

"Grandma, open the door quickly!" he knocked anxiously on the wooden door.

Not long after, Granny Lin opened the door: "What's wrong?"

"Has your granddaughter come back? I saw her go up the mountain this morning. My father said that the spiritual plants in the village are almost ripe these days, and the monsters on the mountain will gather around here. I forgot to remind her today!" Shen Ting finished speaking quickly, looking a little anxious.

Upon hearing this, Granny Lin's cane slipped from her hand: "She didn't come back!"

Grandma Lin could barely stand. She held onto the wooden door, her heart filled with panic.

She wanted to ask the person in front of her to help find someone to rescue her granddaughter, but then she suddenly realized that going up the mountain now would be sending people to their deaths!

Moreover, they were newcomers and didn't have much of a connection with the people of Qingyun Village.

The air was deathly silent.

Grandma Lin turned and went into the house to get her things. Now that she had no one to rely on, she had no choice but to go up the mountain by herself. At worst, they would all die together!

She's such an old woman, she doesn't care about life or death, but she feels sorry for her beloved Jiaojiao.

Lin Jingge slid down the hillside, sustaining numerous injuries, but the poisonous spider relentlessly pursued her.

Finally, her speed slowed down, and she was blocked by the poisonous spider.

The venom shot towards Lin Jingge. She dodged to the side, but was pounced on by the giant spider and pinned to the ground.

Almost instantly, she coughed up blood, and cold sweat poured down her forehead from the pain.

Being so close, Lin Jingge could almost see every single hair on the poisonous spider's legs.

Instead of spraying venom, the spider spun its silk, wrapping Lin Jingge up from head to toe.

The white spider silk, imbued with anesthesia, wrapped around Lin Jingge's body. Not only did it not cause her pain, but it also made her feel drowsy and her pain disappear.

Subconsciously, Lin Jingge wanted to fall asleep, but the image of Grandma Lin suddenly appeared in her mind.

I can't sleep!

She bit her lower lip hard.

The venomous spider pinned its prey down, believing the weak creature had no chance of resistance, and leisurely wrapped its web around Lin Jingge.

Almost instantly, the spider silk had wrapped around Lin Jingge's waist.

She took out the dagger that Granny Lin had given her for self-defense and quickly slashed it across the spider's belly.

Although the spider's abdomen is its weak point, its skin is thick, and even with a specially made dagger, it took Lin Jingge a long time to make a cut.

Feeling abdominal pain, Lin Jingge was instantly kicked away by the spider.

It kept crashing into trees before finally stopping.

The poisonous spider arrived shortly after, its legs, sharp as ordinary daggers, stabbing towards Lin Jingge.

At the critical moment of life and death, a green light shielded Lin Jingge.

The poisonous spider's legs were almost touching Lin Jingge's face. The green light, like waves in water, expanded outwards in circles, blocking the spider's legs.

Taking advantage of the opportunity, Lin Jingge rolled to the side from under the poisonous spider's feet.

Ignoring the pain all over her body, Lin Jingge felt only strength in her hands at that moment.

With the green light blocking the poisonous spider's path, Lin Jingge finally had a chance to open the map she had recorded over the past few days and hurriedly fled.

The green light binding the poisonous spider disappeared only after she had run far away. A moment after the green light disappeared, Lin Jingge spat out another mouthful of blood. She dared not linger, wiped the blood from her mouth, and hurriedly ran down the mountain.

She happened to run into Granny Lin, who had come looking for her.

"Jiaojiao!" Grandma Lin called out as soon as she saw Lin Jingge.

Lin Jingge had exhausted all her strength and could barely see people. If Grandma Lin hadn't spoken, she probably would have just walked right past them.

Hearing Granny Lin's voice, she paused: "Granny, what are you doing here?"

“The village chief said we can’t go up the mountain these days. I was worried about you, so I came up here to find you myself.”
