"This humble official pays his respects to the Regent and the Queen."
A group of officials stepped forward and bowed.
"No need for formalities." Gu Linchao raised his hand in the air, and then, accompanied by officials, led Wen Nongnong towards the high platform of the martial arts arena.
In the center of the training ground, a circular arena was set up, and high platforms were built around the arena to facilitate officials watching the candidates compete.
Officials from the Ministry of War followed behind, reporting to Gu Linchao on the election matters for the next day.
Wen Nongnong listened from the side and then realized that in addition to the martial arts competition, there would also be archery and horseback riding competitions.
As a military officer, one not only needs to be good at martial arts, but also needs to be good at archery and horseback riding.
However, Wen Nong Nong believed that with Wen Ting Yun's abilities, she would definitely be able to easily handle tomorrow's exam.
The martial arts competition lasted for three days. The first day was the archery competition, the second day was the horsemanship competition, and the third day was the martial arts contest.
Wen Nongnong pondered whether she could ask Gu Linchao to bring her here again in the next three days. Her second brother was going to participate in the competition, and she had to come and cheer him on.
Lost in thought, she didn't notice where she was standing.
As I stepped down from the platform, I accidentally missed a step.
She gasped and was about to fall when a strong arm suddenly reached out and caught her around the waist.
"Be careful!" The man's deep voice rang in my ears.
Wen Nongnong blinked, not yet reacting, when in the next moment she was helped to stand up straight, and the hand that had been around her waist was quickly withdrawn.
She paused for a moment, then looked at the man beside her.
The man's expression remained cold and aloof, utterly unsmiling, exuding an air of authority. He stood with one hand behind his back, listening intently to the official beside him, as if he were not the one who had just helped her up.
The other officials seemed oblivious to the brief incident.
Wen Nongnong breathed a sigh of relief, thankfully she hadn't embarrassed herself.
She lifted the hem of her skirt and carefully stepped down the stairs.
Although Gu Linchao was listening to the official's report, his eyes were always on the girl beside him, which is why he was able to catch her in time when she missed a step.
However, although his expression remained normal, the subtle clenching of his fingers behind his back betrayed something amiss.
The girl's soft, slender waist flashed through his mind.
A phrase flashed through his mind: "so small it can't be held in one hand."
Gu Linchao came to the martial arts arena today only to inspect the scene and learn about the competition's rules and procedures. After he finished, he left the Ministry of War with Wen Nongnong.
The officials escorted the two men to the outside of the government office.
Once the two left, everyone's thoughts began to stir.
Who said the Regent doesn't like Wen Nong Nong?
If he didn't like her, why would he bring her along even when visiting the Ministry of War?
They should be very concerned.
The officials thought they had figured out Gu Linchao's thoughts, and some new ideas began to emerge in their minds.
The Regent was always aloof and cold, so they had no way to curry favor with him. Now, however, they could start by getting close to Wen Nongnong.
Wen Nong Nong, sitting in the carriage, suddenly sneezed.
She reached up and rubbed her nose. Who was talking about her behind her back?
"Will you be cold?" Gu Linchao asked gently after hearing this.
Wen Nongnong shook her head. "I'm not cold."
Gu Linchao paused in his action of draping the cloak over his shoulder, then quietly withdrew it.
As the carriage entered the long street, hearing the lively sounds outside, Wen Nongnong suddenly said, "Your Highness, I'm hungry..."
