Why did Gu Linchao arrive so early?
Wen Nongnong clung to the edge of the bucket and spat out the water she had choked on.
"The Princess Consort is taking a bath inside, and she should be done soon. Your Highness, please have a seat for a while," Green Fairy's smiling voice followed.
Wen Nongnong's lips twitched slightly. She had never heard Lü Qiao so happy before.
Outside, Gu Linchao was stunned after hearing Lü Qiao's words, and a trace of unease flashed across his handsome face. "Since the Princess is taking a bath, then I will go back first."
Seeing this, Lü Qiao hurriedly advised, "Your Highness, the Princess will be well soon. Please sit for a while. Really, the Princess will be well soon." As she spoke, she quickly went into the inner room, wanting to serve Wen Nong Nong so that things would go faster.
But as soon as she rushed in, Wen Nong Nong screamed.
"Green and pretty!"
Gu Linchao had just sat down when he heard the sound. His heart tightened, and he quickly stood up, subconsciously taking two steps toward the inner room.
But the next moment, Green Fairy rushed out, her face and hair soaked, and said dejectedly, "This servant didn't mean anything by it, I just wanted to come in and help Miss..."
There was silence inside for a moment, then the rustling sound of clothes being put on could be heard.
Gu Linchao was taken aback, and quickly retreated to his chair, his dark eyes lowered, and his fingers resting on his knees tightened.
Lü Qiao wiped the water droplets from her face and made him a cup of tea.
Before long, Wen Nongnong came out with her hair still wet and bowed to Gu Linchao, "Your Highness."
Gu Linchao raised his eyes, his gaze falling on her beautiful face after her bath. He paused for a moment, and when he saw her wet hair, his brows furrowed involuntarily. Just as he was about to say something, he saw Lü Qiao bring over a towel.
"Miss, please sit down. I'll help you dry your hair."
Wen Nong Nong sat down as instructed, letting her do as she pleased, while she fiddled with the chessboard on the table. Then she smiled at Gu Linchao and said, "Your Highness, shall we play chess?"
Gu Linchao looked at her with some surprise, "You know how to play chess?"
Wen Nong Nong automatically ignored his seemingly contemptuous tone, glanced at him, and said, "I know a lot of things, but I won't give you examples here. And the things I know, Your Highness may not know."
Her confident tone made Gu Linchao smile.
Wen Nongnong tapped the chessboard with her finger. "How about it, Your Highness? Would you like to play a game with me?"
Gu Linchao nodded, "The Princess Consort's invitation is too kind of me to refuse."
Wen Nongnong asked, "Do you want the white pieces or the black pieces?"
"I'm fine with anything," Gu Linchao said indifferently.
Wen Nongnong then chose the white pieces, handed him the chess box containing the black pieces, and then rolled up her sleeves and said, "Your Highness is a man, so you will surely say that I should go first. Then I will not be polite."
As she spoke, she placed the white piece in her hand onto the chessboard with a "snap." "By the way, I should explain beforehand that the game we're playing tonight isn't the kind you usually play. The game we're playing now is called Gomoku. You win if you can arrange five pieces in a row for your side. Of course, you can also block your opponent's pieces and prevent them from arranging five pieces in a row."
Gu Linchao looked at her in surprise, "Gomoku?"
“Yes.” Wen Nongnong was quite smug. She didn’t know how to play the ancient chess games, but she was very good at Gomoku, which she used to play the most with her colleagues on the set. She didn’t believe she couldn’t beat Gu Linchao.
