Neither of them spoke again.
"Whoosh!"
Suddenly, a heavy rain began to fall from the sky.
The rain came suddenly and heavily, soaking the two of them instantly.
Wen Nongnong was soaked to the bone and couldn't help but turn to the man behind her and say, "Your Highness, the rain is so heavy. Shouldn't we find a place to take shelter and wait for it to stop before we leave?"
Gu Linchao seemed oblivious to the heavy rain pouring down on him, lost in thought.
He only snapped out of his daze when Wen Nongnong placed her hand on the back of his hand.
"Let's get out of Juezhou first." He squinted, took off his outer robe with one hand, and draped it over her. Then he spurred his horse, and the horse neighed and ran even faster.
Wen Nongnong was suddenly enveloped by him, and her vision went black for a moment. Only the unique scent of Gu Linchao wafted into her nose from his clothes.
She hesitated for a moment, but ultimately did not raise her hand to remove her clothes.
They rode swiftly, the horse carrying the two of them, and soon they left the city of Juezhou. At the same time, the rain began to fall even harder.
Large raindrops pelted down on Gu Linchao, but he seemed oblivious to the pain. The gloom in his eyes seemed impossible to dispel, no matter how heavy the rain. His lips were pressed into a straight line as he spurred his horse into a gallop.
Even though Wen Nongnong couldn't see the rain outside, she could still feel the heavy rain hitting her body, despite being wrapped in an outer robe.
The horse galloped on, and after an unknown amount of time, she had no idea where she had arrived.
She couldn't help but lift a corner of her clothes and look outside. She saw that the world was shrouded in a mist. The rain was so heavy that it hit the ground and created a light fog, making it difficult to see the road ahead. If she continued walking like this, she might be in danger.
Thinking of this, her heart tightened. She turned her head and looked around. Seeing what appeared to be a dilapidated temple not far away, she turned to Gu Linchao and said, "Your Highness, we've already left Juezhou. Why don't we go to that temple to take shelter from the rain?"
Gu Linchao seemed not to hear what she said, staring blankly ahead.
Wen Nongnong's heart sank, and she realized that something seemed off about him.
"Your Highness?" She shook his arm. "What's wrong?"
Gu Linchao finally heard her voice, looked down at her, and asked, "Hmm?"
Wen Nongnong felt relieved and pointed to a spot not far ahead, saying, "There seems to be a temple over there. Let's go there and take shelter from the rain."
Seeing that her head and face were covered in rain, Gu Linchao finally nodded, "Okay." His voice was unusually hoarse.
Wen Nongnong's heart sank. What exactly happened to Gu Linchao?
Before long, the two rode their horses to the front of the dilapidated temple.
As soon as the horse came to a stop, Wen Nongnong jumped off and then took Gu Linchao's arm, saying, "Your Highness, please get down quickly."
Gu Linchao heard her voice and turned to look at her somewhat belatedly. He saw her standing in the rain, completely soaked, her thin clothes clinging to her body and outlining her beautiful figure...
His eyes darkened, and his Adam's apple bobbed.
After a moment, he brushed her hand away and dismounted.
As he dismounted, his legs gave way and he almost fell over. Just then, a soft hand reached out and wrapped around his waist.
His body tensed up instantly.
"Your Highness, are you ill? Let me help you inside." Hao Hai'er's worried voice rang in his ears.
Before he could react, the girl's soft body pressed tightly against him, her supple arms encircling his waist as she helped him into the temple.
