Upon hearing this, Gu Linchao's brows furrowed slightly with displeasure. Although he did not object to her making friends, seeing how much she cared about them made him feel uneasy.
Thinking it over, he gazed at her with his dark eyes and blurted out, "And what about me? What am I to you?"
Wen Nongnong was taken aback, somewhat surprised that he would ask such a question, and stared at him with her peach blossom eyes widening slightly.
Gu Linchao realized what was happening, a hint of unease flashing across his handsome face. He was about to say something when the girl suddenly leaned in and hugged his waist tightly. "Of course you're my husband. In my heart, you're unique, incomparable to anyone else..."
Gu Linchao was stunned for a moment, then his lips involuntarily curled up, but his handsome face remained taut. "But in your heart, it seems that Atuo Jianghua is more important than me..."
Wen Nongnong blinked, then suddenly realized what he meant and looked at him in surprise, "Your Highness, are you... jealous?"
A hint of unease flashed across Gu Linchao's handsome face as he avoided the girl's gaze. "Nothing of the sort. Don't make wild guesses."
"No?" Wen Nong Nong suddenly stuck out her finger and poked his face, saying with a grin, "But I think you are. Your Highness is jealous." Her tone was certain.
Gu Linchao's handsome face flushed, and he grabbed her mischievous fingers, changing the subject, "There are still many government affairs to handle in the study, I have to go there."
But the girl still wouldn't let go, holding him tightly around the waist, and then said seriously, "Although Your Highness won't admit it, I'm still very happy to see Your Highness jealous. But I want to make it clear that although I'm close to Atuo and Jianghua, you two are different. You are my husband, so naturally you are more important. We are going to stay together for life."
Gu Linchao's heart warmed at the sound of her voice, and he couldn't stop smiling. He reached out and pulled the girl into his arms, kissed her forehead, and said gently, "I know, be good. I'm going to the study now."
Wen Nongnong blinked and took the opportunity to say, "I haven't been back to the Wen residence for a long time. I want to go back and see my father, brothers, and sister-in-law today."
Gu Linchao nodded in agreement, "Go back if you want, I'll have Wang Houde take you."
"Okay." Wen Nongnong nodded obediently, then, as if remembering something, her dark eyes darted around mischievously, and she deliberately said, "However, Your Highness, it's rare for me to return home, so I'd like to stay at the Wen residence tonight and come back tomorrow. Is that alright?"
Upon hearing this, Gu Linchao frowned. "The two residences are not far apart, why do you need to stay overnight?"
Wen Nongnong said pitifully, "Although it's not far, it's where I grew up. I haven't been back for so long, and I really want to stay at home for one night..."
Upon hearing this, Gu Linchao pursed his lips, extremely unwilling for her to go back, especially since she was going to stay there for another night before returning.
Seeing her longing look, he hesitated for a long time before frowning and saying, "Well, whatever you want, but you can only stay one night. You must come back tomorrow."
Wen Nongnong didn't actually intend to stay at the Wen residence. After all, she had lived in the Prince's mansion since she transmigrated, and she didn't miss the original owner's boudoir before her marriage.
She said that on purpose to see if he would try to stop her or try to keep her, but she didn't expect that she had overdone it. He agreed so easily, without even saying a word more.
Even if he saw how much she wanted to go back and stay for one night, he shouldn't have agreed so readily. He acted as if he hadn't hesitated or felt any reluctance at all.
People say that newlyweds are like newlyweds, and although the two have been married for quite some time, their first time together was only two days ago. They are still considered newlyweds, and this is the time when they are most in love and inseparable. But Gu Linchao obviously doesn't think that way.
Thinking it over, she said, unwilling to give up, "I'll give you one more chance."
Gu Linchao looked at her in surprise, "What opportunity?"
Wen Nongnong: "..."
What was she supposed to say?
Even with her thick skin, she was too embarrassed to admit that she was actually joking with him and didn't really want to stay overnight at the Wen residence.
He was born with a brilliant mind, but the Empress Dowager praised him for being naturally clever and intelligent. In her eyes, he was just a blockhead, the kind who wouldn't get it.
It's so obvious, can't he see it?
She gave him a look of deep resentment, then turned and left without saying a word.
Gu Linchao watched her walk away, puzzled.
She seemed unhappy, but why? And what did she mean by giving him another chance?
Gu Linchao was completely bewildered.
They were perfectly fine just a moment ago.
And the thought that she wouldn't be back until tomorrow made him feel a little disappointed.
Just then, Xiao Yan appeared out of nowhere, patted him on the shoulder, and said gloatingly, "That girl seems to be angry."
Gu Linchao collected his thoughts, glanced at him, and said coldly, "Why aren't you leaving yet? Do you want Nong Nong to know that you were the one that night?"
Upon hearing this, Xiao Yan deflated completely, looking utterly hopeless. He said, "Is there a mistake? How could the person from that night be... could be..."
“That day, Atuo Jianghua came to the Prince’s Mansion to play with Nong Nong after leaving the palace. She did not return to the palace at night.” Gu Linchao’s words were like a bucket of cold water poured over Xiao Yan’s head, and the last bit of hope in his heart disappeared.
After hesitating for a long time, he spoke again, "Hengzhi, you must keep this a secret for me and don't tell Nong Nong."
"I know." Gu Linchao said with a hint of helplessness, "Just don't let it slip."
He didn't want to lie to Nong Nong, but Nong Nong was close to Atuo Jianghua. If he told her, she would have another problem. It was better not to tell her, even though he was extremely reluctant to lie to her.
