Gu Linchao suddenly pressed his finger to her lips, his tone serious, "It's not ugly, it's all from Nong Nong's heart."
A sweet feeling welled up in Wen Nongnong's heart. Looking at the man's handsome face, she blinked, then suddenly opened her mouth with a "whoosh" and put his finger in her mouth.
The sudden application of wet carnage to her fingertips startled Gu Linchao, his pupils dilated, and he stared at her in astonishment.
"Nong Nong, you..." His handsome face was already burning hot.
Fortunately, Wen Nongnong quickly relented. She glanced at him shyly, then suddenly realized something and stared at him with wide eyes, "Your Highness, could it be that you didn't wash your hands?"
Gu Linchao: "..."
Her interruption caused the romantic feelings that had arisen in his heart to vanish instantly.
This girl...
Seeing the man speechless, Wen Nongnong suddenly said somewhat nervously, "Or does Your Highness think I'm frivolous?"
Gu Linchao snapped out of his daze and shook his head. "Of course not."
What he was ashamed to admit was that every time Nong Nong teased him like this, he felt an indescribable pleasure and comfort.
To hide his unease, he took her hand and stood up. "Let's go to the front hall."
"Oh." Wen Nong Nong obediently responded and followed him out of Xu's house.
Gu Linchao held the umbrella over her head and was about to lead her outside, but when he saw that the yard was full of water, his actions preceded his thoughts, and he squatted down in front of her.
Wen Nong Nong looked at the man who had squatted down in surprise, "Your Highness, you..."
“The road is slippery, I’ll carry you on my back,” Gu Linchao said gently, pursing his lips.
Almost as soon as he finished speaking, Wen Nongnong threw herself onto his back, wrapped her arms around his neck, and whispered in his ear, "Thank you for your trouble, Your Highness."
Gu Linchao smiled, lifted her up with one hand, and held the umbrella steadily with his other hand.
As they walked out, Wen Nongnong remembered something and leaned close to his ear again, asking, "By the way, why did Your Highness suddenly come to the Wen residence?"
Gu Linchao glanced at her, meeting her moist, peach-blossom eyes. His heart fluttered, but he said casually, "I didn't have anything to do anyway, and it just so happens that I haven't been to the Wen family in a long time, so I came to check on them."
What he didn't tell the truth was that after finishing his official duties in the afternoon, he couldn't contain himself when he thought that Nong Nong wouldn't return to the Prince's Mansion until tomorrow, so he eventually came to the Wen residence.
He was surprised by his own impatience.
He was so reluctant to part ways with someone he was only separated from for one night.
Thinking of this, he pursed his lips.
"I see." Wen Nongnong nodded, then said with a smile, "The gifts Your Highness had prepared for everyone are very well received. Your Highness is very thoughtful."
The girl's breath brushed against his neck, making Gu Linchao feel a little ticklish. He only made a soft "hmm" to hide his unease.
As Madam Wen walked across the veranda from the other side, surrounded by servants, she saw the two people coming from the garden from afar.
At first, because of the umbrella, she couldn't see the two people's faces. She was wondering who was so bold as to be so shameless in broad daylight when the two people had already stepped onto the veranda. Only when the umbrella was closed did she see their faces clearly. She was immediately surprised and exclaimed "Ah!" and stopped in her tracks.
It turned out to be Gu Linchao and Wen Nongnong...
What did she just see?
The dignified Regent Prince is actually cheating on Wen Nongnong, that brat, without fear of losing his status and face.
What she found most unbelievable was that Wen Nongnong, what virtue or ability did she possess to dare trouble the Regent to carry her? Did she have no sense of shame at all?
They have absolutely no manners or upbringing.
She frowned and led her people over.
Wen Nongnong had already gotten off Gu Linchao's back, took a handkerchief, and was squatting in front of Gu Linchao, wiping the raindrops that had gotten on the hem of his robe.
Just as Gu Linchao was about to pull her up, he saw Old Madam Wen approaching.
He paused for a moment, then said politely, "Madam."
Wen Nongnong paused, looked up, and saw that it was indeed Old Madam Wen. She didn't seem to care much, wiped the corner of Gu Linchao's robe clean, and then slowly stood up. "Grandmother."
To everyone's surprise, Madam Wen completely ignored her.
She was about to bow to Gu Linchao.
She thought that Gu Linchao would definitely help her up personally, but even after she bent down, Gu Linchao did not move. She was immediately displeased, but had no choice but to complete the formalities, "This old woman greets Your Highness."
Gu Linchao then said calmly, "Madam, you may dispense with the formalities."
Madam Wen straightened up, looked at Wen Nongnong who remained unmoved, and felt a surge of anger. She couldn't help but scold her, "You girl, you really don't understand manners and etiquette. How could you let the Prince carry you? What kind of talk is that? Where does that leave the Prince's face?"
Wen Nongnong was no longer surprised by her sudden attack; it would be strange if she didn't seize the opportunity.
She said innocently, "Grandmother is mistaken. It wasn't me who wanted the prince to carry me; it was the prince who wanted to carry me. Isn't that right, Your Highness?" As she spoke, she even put her hand into Gu Linchao's hand.
Gu Linchao grasped her hand almost without hesitation and nodded, "Nongnong is right, Madam, please don't take offense. The road was slippery, and I was worried that Nongnong would get her shoes wet, so I carried her on my back. It was my fault that Madam misunderstood."
Madam Wen was speechless.
She hadn't expected Gu Linchao to be so protective of Wen Nongnong; this was something she hadn't anticipated.
A complex mix of emotions welled up inside her.
This granddaughter used to be someone she disliked the most, even found annoying.
