Wen Nongnong didn't think much of it and helped Gu Linchao walk towards the direction from which the sound of the spring water was coming from.
Bai Li and Lü Qiao followed closely behind the two.
Because it was so hot, when they arrived at the spring, all four of them washed themselves and returned to their original appearance.
When the four of them walked out again, Shen Qingning's eyes lit up. "I didn't expect you all to be so good-looking."
Wen Nongnong smiled and said, "Please excuse my poor appearance, young lady."
"No." Shen Qingning shook her head, then said somewhat cheerfully, "We're almost home, let's go."
"Okay." Wen Nongnong replied, still steadily supporting Gu Linchao.
I didn't expect that Shen Qingning's "almost there" meant we still had to walk twice the distance.
Upon reaching the mountaintop, Wen Nongnong's legs trembled. She released Gu Linchao's hand and plopped down on the ground.
Bai Li and Lü Qiao were also a little out of breath, and sat down beside her.
Shen Qingning often climbed this mountain, so she wasn't very tired. Seeing Gu Linchao standing by the door, she reached out her hand and said, "Big brother, let me help you in first."
Upon hearing this, Gu Linchao slightly turned his body away, "Thank you for your kindness, young lady, but I will wait for my wife."
Feeling embarrassed by being rejected in public, Shen Qingning withdrew her hand and said indifferently, "Then do as you please." With that, she pushed open the wooden door and went inside.
Wen Nongnong naturally noticed this scene, and a complex feeling welled up in her heart.
Miss Shen probably meant well and didn't mean anything by it.
She quickly stood up, brushed the grass clippings off her skirt, and took Gu Linchao's hand, asking, "Are you tired?"
"I'm not tired." Gu Linchao's expression softened slightly. He took out a handkerchief and gently wiped the sweat from her face.
Wen Nongnong did not stop him, and squinted her eyes to enjoy his service.
When Shen Qingning came out again, she saw this scene. She was stunned for a moment, then stepped forward and said, "Come in and have some tea. My master is not here. He has probably gone down the mountain and should be back later."
"Okay, thank you for your trouble, Miss Chen." Wen Nongnong turned her head, smiled at her, and then took Gu Linchao's hand and entered the courtyard.
The yard wasn't big, but it was very clean and tidy. There were some flowers and plants in the corners, and some herbs were drying in the center of the yard.
Besides the main house, there are three other rooms and a kitchen; the layout is very simple.
"I don't get many visitors here, and my dwelling is simple. Please excuse my humble appearance," Shen Qingning said.
“No, no, I think it’s quite nice to have a house like this. It’s located on the mountaintop, far away from the hustle and bustle, and it’s exceptionally quiet and peaceful, perfect for living,” Wen Nongnong said immediately.
Shen Qingning smiled and said nothing more, welcoming the group into the main house for tea.
After finishing their tea, Shen Qingning arranged for everyone to rest inside.
"You must be tired after walking such a long way with me. Please rest for a bit while I go cook. I'll call you when it's ready," Shen Qingning said considerately.
Upon hearing this, Wen Nongnong felt a little guilty. They had come here to ask for a favor, and they had troubled her so much. She quickly said, "Miss Chen, I'll have my sister help you."
Shen Qingning thought for a moment and did not refuse, "Alright."
"Lüqiao, could you help Miss Chen?" Wen Nongnong said to Lüqiao.
"Okay." Green gracefully put down her bundle and followed Shen Qingning out.
Bai Li tidied up her bundle and left the house.
Only Wen Nongnong and Gu Linchao remained in the room.
"Your Highness, would you like to rest for a while?" Wen Nongnong asked.
Gu Linchao shook his head, "I'm not sleepy, you should go and rest."
Wen Nongnong shook her head as well, "I'm not sleepy either, and I don't want to rest. If you're really not sleepy, how about I help you go for a walk outside?"
"Alright." Gu Linchao nodded.
The couple then left the house and walked towards the courtyard gate.
Shen Qingning returned from picking vegetables in the back garden and bumped into them. "Are you going out?"
"Let's just stroll around outside," Wen Nongnong said with a smile.
"Okay, then don't go too far, we'll be eating soon," Shen Qingning said.
"Okay." Wen Nongnong replied and helped Gu Linchao out of the courtyard.
Shen Qingning stood there for a while, watching the two leave before turning and going to the kitchen.
Wen Nongnong helped Gu Linchao and they didn't go far.
It was dusk, and the afterglow of the setting sun in the distance bathed the entire mountain in a golden hue.
"It's just that climbing the mountain is a bit strenuous, otherwise living in a place like this is not bad. The environment is quiet and pleasant, and it has a sense of being at peace with the world." Wen Nongnong helped Gu Linchao stand on a boulder, looking into the distance, and said with some longing.
Gu Linchao faced her and said with a smile, "You might be happy to stay for a few days, but if you really had to live in a place like this for the rest of your life, I'm afraid you wouldn't be able to stand it."
Upon hearing this, Wen Nongnong smiled and said, "Your Highness understands me best."
"Why aren't you calling me husband anymore?" Gu Linchao asked teasingly, but his handsome face held a hint of anticipation.
Wen Nongnong blinked, tiptoed closer to him, and breathed softly, "Husband, husband..."
Gu Linchao's heart fluttered, and he suddenly reached out to touch her waist, lowering his head to kiss her. However, this time he lost his judgment, and his lips landed on her nose.
Wen Nong Nong chuckled and teased, "Does Your Highness like my nose?"
Gu Linchao's handsome face flushed, and he kissed her lips again.
Before long, Wen Nongnong was panting heavily and pushed him away, saying, "It's so hot, I can't breathe."
Gu Linchao had no choice but to let go of her, then took out a handkerchief and wiped her sweat.
This scene was witnessed by Shen Qingning, who came out to call them back for dinner.
She looked at the two of them with a hint of envy.
