Shen Qingning, who had gotten up from the ground, covered her swollen face and stared blankly in the direction the carriage had left. "Master, they called Brother Gu a prince, so who is Brother Gu...?"
The old man frowned, a strange look on his face. "It is indeed the famous Regent." He paused, then, as if remembering something, he couldn't help but say, "Qing Ning, he is no ordinary person. I'm afraid we are not capable of associating with him. I think we should just let this matter go."
Shen Qingning bit her lip, her eyes filled with resentment.
After a long pause, she said with a hopeful look, "But Master, Brother Gu is in trouble now. If we heal his eyes, wouldn't that be a great achievement?"
Upon hearing this, the old man sighed but did not respond to her words.
Seeing this, Shen Qingning lowered her head and said with a dejected look, "Didn't Master say that I am your only concern, and that you would try to fulfill my wishes as long as I want them? I have no other requests, I just want a Brother Gu."
The old man said with difficulty, "But Gu Linchao is already married, and judging from his attitude, he values that Wen family very much."
Shen Qingning frowned. "Brother Gu is in a high position and has great power. Isn't it normal for him to have as many women as he wants? But Sister Wen... However, judging from what those two girls said, it seems that she has already been captured." She breathed a sigh of relief.
Seeing his beloved disciple's reaction, the old man could no longer bring himself to refuse.
"Then let's heal his eyes first. He owes us a debt of gratitude, and even if he doesn't want to marry you, he can't erase that debt. You can take advantage of the situation then. As for the Wen family, they might not be able to come back," the old man said thoughtfully.
Upon hearing this, Shen Qingning nodded in agreement, "Let's do as Master says for now."
“They must have gone to town. Let’s go check on them,” the old man said.
"Okay," Shen Qingning replied happily.
By this time, Si Yi and his group had returned to the town inn.
The shopkeeper and his assistant were terrified when they saw Lü Qiao and Bai Li return. When they saw that they had brought back so many people, each with a sharp knife at their waist and an intimidating aura, they were even more frightened and dared not breathe.
After settling Gu Linchao inside, Wang Houde summoned a doctor.
The town's doctor had never seen anything like it before. He was so frightened that his hands and feet went weak, but he could only grit his teeth and treat Gu Linchao.
However, apart from several abrasions, Gu Linchao did not have any serious injuries.
"If there are no serious injuries, why is he unconscious?" Wang Houde asked, frowning.
"I think this young master must have been so angry that he fainted," the doctor said hesitantly.
Upon hearing this, Wang Houde immediately understood. His master must have fainted from anger and distress because he saw that the Empress had been captured and, being blind, could not rescue her.
"I understand, you can go now."
The doctor, feeling as if he had been granted a pardon, was about to leave when he was called back, "Wait."
"Is there anything else you need?" the doctor asked, startled.
"Go and treat that girl; she looks badly injured," Wang Houde said, pointing to Bai Li, whose clothes were stained with blood.
Bai Li glanced at him. "I'm not hurt."
Upon hearing this, Wang Houde felt somewhat resentful; well, the other party didn't appreciate it.
"And you?" Si Yi glanced at Lü Qiao's swollen face and the blood seeping from the corner of her mouth, his tone not very friendly.
Lü Qiao wanted to say what it was to do with him, but then she remembered that he had helped her up in the suburbs, so she owed him a favor. Besides, he had hit Shen Qingning, which made her feel relieved. Because of these two points, she felt embarrassed to say those things again.
"I...I'm fine," she stammered after a long pause.
"Show her," Si Yi suddenly ordered the doctor.
"Okay, good." The doctor quickly stepped forward to examine Lü Qiao.
When Lü Qiao tried to refuse, her words were cut off, and she could only sit down quietly and let the doctor apply some medicine to her.
Wang Houde fetched water and tidied up Gu Linchao.
Looking at his unconscious master, Wang Houde asked the doctor with great concern, "When will my master wake up?"
"He wasn't seriously injured and should wake up soon." After the doctor finished applying the medicine to Lü Qiao, he asked, "May I leave now?"
Si nodded. "Go down."
The doctor quickly left the room.
For a moment, the atmosphere in the room became very heavy.
After a long pause, Si Yi looked at Lü Qiao and said, "You mean when the man in black kidnapped the princess, he asked the prince to exchange her for him with a military tally?"
Lü Qiao nodded. "Yes."
"So, this man in black isn't part of the assassins who tried to kill the prince," Si Yi said thoughtfully.
Wang Houde was very puzzled. "Who exactly wants the prince's military tally? It can't be..." He stopped talking and didn't continue, but everyone in the room understood.
“If the other party only wants the military tally, then the princess should be safe now,” Si Yi said.
"When will His Highness wake up?" Green Fairy asked Wen Nong Nong with great concern.
Si Yi suddenly said, "Even if you wake up, you cannot hand over the military tally." That is the only thing the master relies on; how can he hand it over?
Green Fairy's eyes widened, and she said angrily, "So my young lady isn't going to be saved?"
Si frowned. "I didn't say we wouldn't save the princess, but could we use other methods?"
"They threatened to exchange the military tally for the young lady's release. If they don't give her the tally, how can they release her?" Green Fairy felt uncomfortable hearing Si Yi's words, and at the same time, she was suddenly afraid that the prince would not be willing to exchange the military tally for her young lady after he woke up.
Bai Li also thought of this, and her expression turned somewhat unpleasant.
