Chapter 529 He suddenly felt a little irritated.

The shopkeeper seemed to have broken his leg, as he walked with a limp and needed the waiter's help. He also seemed to have injured his eye, as he was wearing an eye patch over his left eye.

Compared to yesterday, the shopkeeper looked unusually disheveled and dejected.

"If you need anything, please let us know." Seeing Lü Qiao's appraising gaze, the shopkeeper immediately stopped and said respectfully.

Lü Qiao was somewhat surprised, but still said, "Thank you, shopkeeper."

The shopkeeper quickly waved his hand, looking flustered, "You're too kind, young lady, please don't say that."

Seeing this, Lü Qiao's doubts deepened.

How come the shopkeeper has become so polite and courteous after only one night?

Unable to understand, she stopped thinking about it and went back to her room with her clothes.

Watching her walk away, the innkeeper breathed a sigh of relief and said to the waiter, "Take good care of this young lady and don't neglect her. Make sure she doesn't have a comfortable stay."

"Yes." The waiter was a little surprised that he had suddenly changed his attitude towards this girl.

I was peeping at people taking a shower through the window yesterday.

Little did he know that before dawn this morning, the shopkeeper was broken into and brutally beaten.

Not only was his leg broken, but he also lost an eye. His wife and children's lives were now in their hands. How could he dare to be impolite or disrespectful?

The shopkeeper recalled the terrible events of this morning, and his eyes and legs began to ache again.

The clothes, which had been drying overnight, were dry. When Lü Qiao returned to the house, Si Yi had not yet come back, so she took out her needle and thread to mend them.

Not long after, Si Yi returned. Seeing the girl sitting on the chair mending clothes, he paused, walked over, placed a gold ingot on the table in front of her, and then slowly instructed, "You shall stay here for the next two days. If you want to eat anything, have them make it for you. I will return in two days."

Seeing this, Lü Qiao was somewhat surprised. Where did he get the money?

Si Yi seemed to see her confusion and explained, "This is a deposit from a wealthy family."

Upon hearing this, Lü Qiao felt both worried about him and afraid of living here alone. After hesitating for a moment, she said, "Then you have to be careful."

"Don't worry, the lives of the shopkeeper's wife and children are still in my hands. They won't do anything to you anymore. On the contrary, they will protect you." Si Yi saw the fear in her heart at a glance and comforted her.

"What did you do?" Green Fairy was very surprised. No wonder the shopkeeper was so polite to her just now.

"You don't need to know so much, just stay here and relax." Si Yi didn't want to say more.

Upon hearing this, Lü Qiao didn't ask any further questions, but she still inquired, "Is your hand feeling much better now?"

"It's all over now," Si Yi said.

Lü Qiao didn't believe him, but knowing his temperament, she didn't ask any more questions. Instead, she handed the silver ingot on the table back to him, saying, "Keep it for yourself. Of the five taels of silver you asked for yesterday, I still have three taels left. That should be enough."

"If I told you to take it, then take it." Si Yi frowned, somewhat displeased.

Upon hearing this, Lü Qiao had no choice but to put the gold ingot away, thinking to herself that she would return it to him later, even if it was just temporarily left with her.

Seeing that he was about to leave, she quickly followed him to the door, looking at him expectantly, "Si Yi, you must come back safely."

Si Yi turned around and glanced at her. Seeing the worry and anxiety in her eyes, he suddenly felt a little irritated.

No one had ever worried about him like this before.

He paused for a moment, then said calmly, "Don't worry, I won't let you go back to Xiangzhou alone." With that, he didn't linger and quickly left.

Green Fairy leaned against the door, watching his retreating figure, her heart filled with a myriad of emotions.

Did he think she was worried about him because she was afraid of returning to Xiangzhou alone?

Although that was part of it, she hadn't thought that much about it; she simply hoped he would come back safely.

After Si Yi left, Lü Qiao went back to her room to continue mending her clothes.

Si Yi's outer robe and inner garment both had torn right sleeves, and it took her some effort to mend them.

After mending Si Yi's clothes, she also mended the pants that Si Yi had torn.

After doing all that, she had nothing else to do.

Although Si Yi told her to stay here without worry, she still felt uneasy.

On the one hand, I was worried about Si Yi, and on the other hand, I was also worried about the unfamiliar environment and people here.

She rarely goes out except for meals.

Two days passed like this. On the morning of the third day, while she was still asleep, she suddenly heard someone knocking on the door.

She turned to look out the window and saw that it was still dark outside. Her heart skipped a beat. Could there be some bad people around?

Hearing the knocking continue, she asked warily, "Who is it?"

"It's me." Si Yi's familiar voice came from behind the door.

Lü Qiao breathed a sigh of relief, but was also very happy.

She threw back the covers, quickly got out of bed, and rushed to open the door.

"Si Yi."

Opening the door, Lu Qiao was pleasantly surprised to see the boy standing outside. "You're back."

Si was taken aback. Looking at her joyful face, a strange and unfamiliar feeling suddenly arose in his heart.

He went on countless missions, but each time he returned to a deserted place. Never before had someone been so eagerly waiting for his return, and the joy on their face seemed to overflow when they saw him.

His dark eyes closed slightly, and after a moment, he looked up at her.

She was wearing only a thin shirt, her long hair was loose, and she was barefoot on the ground, clearly having just gotten out of bed.

"Hmm," he responded softly, then asked, "How have you been these past two days?"

Upon hearing this, Lü Qiao was somewhat flattered and quickly stepped aside. After he stepped in, she closed the door and followed behind him, saying, "I'm fine, but I was still a little scared when you weren't here, so I didn't go anywhere."

How are things going for you? Did you aggravate your hand injury?

The room wasn't big, and Si Yi stopped walking after listening to her rambling.

Just as he was about to speak, he heard a "thud" behind him—the sound of the girl's head hitting his back, followed by her cry of pain.

He paused, turned around, and a smile involuntarily crept onto his lips. "You're really stupid. Don't you even watch where you're going?"

Lü Qiao was stunned for a moment, feeling as if her head had hit a rock, and it throbbed slightly.

She reached up to rub her throbbing forehead, and hearing his mocking words, her tone unconsciously turned reproachful, "How was I supposed to know you'd suddenly stop?"

Seeing the girl's frustrated expression, Si paused for a moment, "The house is only so big, where else can I go?"

Green Qiao choked for a moment, then realized that what she said made sense; she herself had been too careless.

"Okay, it's my own fault for being stupid." She lowered her head, looking quite embarrassed.

Seeing her like this, Si chuckled softly, "It's good that you know."

Upon hearing this, Lü Qiao suddenly raised her eyes and stared at him intently.

"What are you looking at?" Si Yi felt very uncomfortable being stared at by her direct gaze.

"Si Yi, you actually smiled," Green Fairy said in surprise.

Si frowned, turning her head away somewhat embarrassedly, "When have I ever not smiled?"

“You never smile,” Green Fairy said earnestly, then paused suddenly, as if thinking of something.
