“I’m not wrong either,” Wen Tingyun said. “If you’re going to put on an act, you have to go all the way. Tomorrow someone will definitely impersonate you and lie in the coffin before being buried. Only in this way can Shen Qingning be hooked.”
"I hope things go smoothly," Wen Nongnong said, resting her chin on her hand.
Only if Shen Qingning takes the bait will she automatically appear and take the initiative to come to him.
As long as Shen Qingning is captured, given how much the Lingyin Taoist priest values her, there's no need to worry that he won't hand over the antidote.
Although this method was somewhat insidious, Wen Nongnong felt no remorse whatsoever for dealing with the Lingyin Taoist priest and his disciples.
They were able to threaten Gu Linchao with the antidote to make him marry Shen Qingning, so why couldn't they use the same method?
If either of them had any medical ethics, they wouldn't have resorted to such a desperate measure.
...
Two days later, Shen Qingning finally breathed a sigh of relief after repeatedly confirming that Wen Nongnong was indeed dead.
"Master, I want to go to the Prince of Xiang's mansion to find Gu Linchao," she said excitedly.
Master Lingyin frowned and said, "Although we did see Wen Nongnong buried with our own eyes, Gu Linchao did not appear at the funeral. We still need to observe this matter further."
Upon hearing this, Shen Qingning felt as if she had been doused with cold water, and was very uncomfortable. "You're just being too cautious. Didn't you say that Gu Linchao fainted because he was too heartbroken? There's nothing wrong with him not being there."
"You said he was heartbroken, so if you go to him now, do you think he'll even pay attention to you?" Master Lingyin reminded him.
Shen Qingning, however, disagreed.
She only went at this time because Gu Linchao was too heartbroken over the deaths of Wen Nongnong and the child.
People say to take advantage of a weakness, and she thinks there's some truth to that.
This is the time when Gu Linchao needs comfort the most. If she goes there now, she might win his favor.
But she knew she couldn't persuade her master, so she didn't argue with him and replied, "I understand, I'll go again in a few days."
"It's good that you know this. Haste makes waste. Don't rush things. Wen Nongnong is dead, so there's one less obstacle. Take your time," said Master Lingyin.
“I understand,” Shen Qingning replied.
...
The Prince of Xiang's Mansion.
Many days have passed since Wen Nongnong "passed away," but the atmosphere in the Prince's mansion remains solemn and sorrowful.
That day, Gu Linchao, who was "overwhelmed with grief," was listening to Wen Tingyun report on military affairs in his study when Steward Wang came in and said, "Your Highness, Miss Shen has arrived."
Upon hearing this, Wen Tingyun raised an eyebrow, surprised that the man had lost his patience and had come knocking on his door so soon.
He glanced at Gu Linchao; it seemed that his brother-in-law, the prince, was quite attractive to him.
Fortunately, Gu Linchao wasn't the type to be a womanizer, so no matter what Shen Qingning did, it was all in vain.
"What should we do now?" Butler Wang asked for instructions.
"But she came alone?" Gu Linchao asked.
"Yes," said Butler Wang.
"Did she tell you that there was a way to cure my eyes?" Gu Linchao continued to ask.
“Exactly. She was afraid the old servant would kick her out, so she told me as soon as she arrived,” Steward Wang replied.
"That's good. You can tell her that I don't want to see anyone these days, but you are very worried about my eyes, so you took it upon yourself to let her stay, hoping that she can really cure my eyes."
"Let her stay here for now. Once I'm in a better mood in a few days, I'll find a way to arrange for her to see me," Gu Linchao instructed calmly.
Upon hearing this, Butler Wang immediately understood. Doing so would lower Shen Qingning's guard and vigilance.
Although she is a lone woman and it would be easy to capture her, it would be best to disarm her to be absolutely sure.
After all, Gu Linchao had previously been adamant and refused to accept her treatment. If she were to say directly that Gu Linchao was willing to see her, she might become wary and run away.
"This old servant knows what to do," Steward Wang replied and withdrew.
Si Yi and Wang Houde followed closely behind.
Wen Tingyun said with amusement, "It seems that Miss Shen came behind her master's back, but that's fine too."
"Mm." Gu Linchao nodded.
After leaving the study, Steward Wang went to the main gate of the Wang Mansion.
When he arrived, Shen Qingning was indeed still waiting there.
"Miss Chen, I'm sorry to have kept you waiting." He walked over with a troubled expression.
Seeing his expression, Shen Qingning's heart sank. "What's wrong? Does Your Highness not want to see me?"
Butler Wang nodded with great difficulty, "To be honest, Miss Chen, my master is too heartbroken because of the princess's matter and refuses to see anyone. I just told the prince why you came, but he wouldn't listen and even kicked me out."
Shen Qingning wasn't particularly surprised to hear this.
Given Gu Linchao's feelings for Wen Nongnong, it was only natural that he was heartbroken. She had already guessed that he wouldn't see her at this time, but she still held onto hope, so she came here while her master was taking a nap.
"Miss Chen, can you really cure my prince?" Butler Wang asked, his expression slightly agitated.
Shen Qingning nodded without hesitation, "Of course." Her tone was very confident.
"Could you please allow Miss Shen to stay at the manor for two days? Once the Prince's mood improves, I will arrange an audience with him. Perhaps then the Prince will be willing to see you," Steward Wang immediately suggested.
Upon hearing this, Shen Qingning's heart stirred, and her fingers clenched tightly in her sleeve with excitement, but she hesitated and said, "Wouldn't that be too much of a bother? Besides, I haven't told my master yet."
