Chapter 93 Why Do You Look So Guilty? (Chapter 6)

Gu Linchao paused in his movement to take out the handkerchief, but ultimately did not take it out.

He gave Wang Houde a cold glance.

Wang Houde felt a chill run down his spine. He looked back and wondered why he suddenly felt so cold.

The palace banquet lasted until the afternoon before it ended.

Wen Nongnong went to change back into her imperial robes.

When she came out, Gu Linchao was waiting for her.

"Are we leaving the palace now?"

"Go and pay your respects to the Empress Dowager," Gu Linchao said calmly.

"Oh," Wen Nongnong replied, and followed him to Jingci Palace.

When they reached the door, they ran into Xiao Yan.

"My dear niece-in-law, you have truly impressed me today."

Wen Nongnong exclaimed "Huh?" and deliberately said, "Are you impressed? I didn't see that."

Xiao Yan was taken aback and couldn't help but roll her eyes at her, "I was praising you."

"So many people praise me, I don't need another uncle." Wen Nongnong shrugged.

"Hey, you little brat, you're really not modest." Xiao Yan was amused by her and turned to look at Gu Linchao. "Hengzhi, you'd better keep an eye on your wife, she's practically flying high."

Gu Linchao glanced at him and said, "You'd better mind your own business."

Wen Nongnong also said, "That's right, you should mind your own business. You're already so old and still all alone. Be careful your grandparents don't crawl out from under the ground and strangle you."

Xiao Yan originally wanted to reprimand her, but upon hearing what she said next, he felt a chill run down his spine and said defiantly, "What nonsense are you spouting in broad daylight?"

Wen Nongnong asked curiously, "Why are you so guilty? Did you do something to offend your maternal grandfather?"

Xiao Yan rubbed his forehead and said patiently, "Fine, I won't argue with a junior like you. I have other things to do, so I won't go see the Empress Dowager." With that, he turned and slipped away.

Wen Nongnong looked puzzled. "What's wrong with him?"

“He’s afraid of ghosts,” Gu Linchao suddenly said.

Wen Nongnong's lips twitched. She hadn't expected that Xiao Yan, who was so tall and strong, would be afraid of ghosts.

She found it somewhat unbelievable.

Upon entering Jingci Palace, the Empress Dowager was already waiting for the two of them.

"Mother." The two bowed in turn.

The Empress Dowager smiled and waved to Wen Nongnong.

Wen Nongnong stepped forward.

"I heard you just lost to the Princess of Xinjiang?" The Empress Dowager took her hand, her face full of kindness.

Wen Nongnong was somewhat surprised to hear this.

"Who told you that, Mother?"

The Empress Dowager laughed, "Now the whole palace is abuzz with the news. The Regent's Consort has not only won over the envoys from Xinjiang, but even that unruly princess from Xinjiang is no match for you."

Wen Nongnong wrinkled her nose and lowered her head somewhat embarrassedly, "Actually, it's not that exaggerated."

Gu Linchao glanced at her.

This girl is clearly enjoying it, yet she's pretending!

The Empress Dowager was increasingly pleased with her, and said with a smile, "You child, you are really quite lovable. However, I'll let it go this time, but next time something like this happens, you mustn't rush forward again." As she spoke, she glanced meaningfully at her belly.

Wen Nongnong was taken aback.

The Empress Dowager quickly looked away and instructed Gu Linchao, "Chao'er, Nong Nong is still young, you must take good care of her."

"Your subject understands," Gu Linchao said calmly.

The Empress Dowager didn't mind and said to Granny Zeng, "Quickly bring the soup over."

"Yes." Granny Zeng went downstairs with a smile.

Wen Nongnong is now terrified of soup.

Could it be that the Empress Dowager has prepared some strange soup for the two of them again?
