Chapter Fifty-Three: Sacrificing a little blood was really worthwhile.

“That’s true,” Granny Zeng agreed.

"It seems that the prescription that Physician Lin wrote yesterday was quite effective. Remember to brew a pot of soup for the Prince and Princess every few days," the Empress Dowager instructed.

"Your Majesty, please rest assured, this old servant understands." Granny Zeng nodded.

The Empress Dowager was in a great mood, thinking that she would soon be holding her grandchildren. She had a good appetite that morning and, for the first time ever, drank two bowls of porridge.

The Regent's Palace.

Wen Nongnong didn't sleep well last night and didn't get up until the sun was high in the sky.

She had little appetite, ate a quick breakfast, and then strolled around the Prince's Garden.

"This servant greets Your Highness." Wang Houde passed by, saw her, and stepped forward to pay his respects.

"No need for formalities, Eunuch Wang." Wen Nongnong had a rather favorable impression of him. When she noticed the thick white bandage wrapped around his fingers, she couldn't help but ask with concern, "What happened to your hand, Eunuch Wang? Are you injured?"

Upon hearing this, Wang Houde raised his bandaged finger, looked at her, and couldn't help but feel complicated. He sighed, "Your Majesty, you don't know, this was cut by the Prince with a knife."

Wen Nongnong was surprised, "Why would Your Highness cut you out of the blue?"

It's really hard to believe. Gu Linchao looks so noble and elegant, but he actually mistreats his servants behind the scenes.

And why did he cut someone's finger? That's disgusting.

Seeing her so surprised, Wang Houde quickly explained, "Your Highness did all that for your sake."

Wen Nongnong looked puzzled.

What does it mean to do it for her?

Wang Houde then recounted the whole story.

Wen Nong Nong's expression was also complicated after hearing this.

Well, Gu Linchao did that, albeit reluctantly, for her sake.

But she had a premonition that Gu Linchao's real purpose in doing that was simply to prevent the kind of trouble that happened yesterday.

Otherwise, if the two of them do not consummate their marriage, the Empress Dowager will not be at ease for even a day, and things like yesterday's will certainly continue.

Although Gu Linchao was doing it for his own sake, it must be said that it also saved her some trouble.

This can be considered a win-win situation for both parties.

Thinking about it this way, sacrificing a little of Wang Houde's blood was really worthwhile.

"Eunuch Wang, you've really gone to so much trouble. I'll have the kitchen make you some blood-nourishing soup," she said considerately.

Wang Houde was so moved he almost cried.

The princess is such a kind person.

Unlike his master, who was cold and ruthless, he used him and then forgot about him without a word of concern.

...

At noon, Gu Linchao had just returned to the West Garden when he saw Lü Qiao walking over with a food box in her hand.

His gaze fell on the food box in Lü Qiao's hand, and he paused, stopping in his tracks.

However, Lü Qiao simply stepped forward, bowed to him, and then walked up to Wang Houde with the food box.

"Eunuch Wang, this is a nourishing soup that my young lady specially instructed our small kitchen to prepare for you. Please remember to drink it while it's hot."

Wang Houde grinned from ear to ear and reached out to take it, saying, "Miss Lüqiao, please thank the Princess for me."

"You're too kind, Eunuch Wang. You've sacrificed so much for our young lady; I should thank you on her behalf," said Lü Qiao with a smile, turning to bow to Gu Linchao before withdrawing.

Gu Linchao: "..."

Holding the food box, Wang Houde said to Gu Linchao with a smug look, "Master, if there's nothing else, this servant will take his leave now." He needed to drink his soup; the Princess Consort had told him to drink it while it was hot.

No one had ever been so kind to him; he felt incredibly warm inside.
