Chapter Forty: A surge of emotion welled up within me.

Under the sunlight, it reflects a dazzling light, as if telling the story of the profound heritage of the Wen family, a family with a history of over a hundred years.

Wen Tingyun followed her gaze and looked at the plaque above. Her words had stirred up a storm in her heart.

"I just hope that dream isn't real," Wen Nongnong murmured to herself.

Wen Tingyun came to her senses, thinking about everything that had happened the night before, and her younger sister who had suddenly become a completely different person. She hesitated and said, "But it's true that Wen Ruyi wanted to harm you. This means that your dream may very well come true."

“That’s what I’m most worried about,” Wen Nongnong said, frowning.

"So that's why you tried so hard to stop Grandmother from taking Wen Ruyi back?" Wen Tingyun finally understood.

“Yes,” Wen Nongnong said firmly. “Even if it’s very likely just a ridiculous dream I had, I still have to be careful. Better to kill the innocent than let the guilty go free. You are all my beloved family members, and I can’t let any of you be in danger.”

Wen Tingyun felt a surge of excitement and emotion.

He had always thought his younger sister was carefree and thoughtless, but he never expected that she cared so much about them.

That's enough!

"I understand. Don't worry, with your second brother here, I will definitely not let those things happen. Leave those things to me. Just live your life in peace." Wen Tingyun patted her head and spoke to her in a gentle tone for the first time.

All my sister needs to do is live happily and carefree; he can handle all the troublesome things.

Wen Nong Nong blinked and nodded. "I understand, and I believe you, Second Brother. However, you must not tell anyone what I told you today, not even Father and Mother. After all, it was just a dream I had, and it's hard to believe. Moreover, if it's leaked, it might cause trouble."

“I know, I won’t tell anyone,” Wen Tingyun assured her.

"Then let this remain a secret between us," Wen Nongnong said softly, blinking her eyes. Suddenly, she reached out her pinky finger, hooked it around his, and gently shook it.

"Childish!" Wen Tingyun scoffed, but her face showed affection.

"Alright, I have to go back now," Wen Nongnong said seriously. "If anything happens, be sure to tell me immediately."

"I know." Wen Tingyun nodded and personally saw her onto the carriage.

Watching the carriage drive away, Wen Tingyun couldn't help but sigh. No wonder his little sister had grown up so much overnight; it was all because of that dream.

She must have been terrified at the time, but she couldn't bring herself to say it.

But for her family, she did so much all by herself.

Wen Tingyun thought back to the past when he used to tease and bully his younger sister. He felt a rare pang of guilt, but he made a decision in his heart: he would protect his silly sister and never let her suffer even the slightest harm.

Wen Nongnong never expected that her heartfelt words would lead to her second brother's decision to protect her.

Thinking about what happened today, she felt relieved.

At the very least, Wen Ruyi won't be coming back for the time being. Moreover, her second brother has sent people to keep an eye on her. She doesn't believe that Wen Ruyi can sprout wings and fly back.

In the original book, Wen Ruyi and Gu Heng first met at the Wen residence.

Gu Heng, traveling incognito, came to the Wen residence to discuss politics with Wen Shiqing. However, in the garden, he met Wen Ruyi and fell in love with her at first sight. After returning home, he issued an edict to make her his empress.
