Chapter Sixty-One: I've liked it for many years

Gu Linchao, who was walking ahead, turned around when he heard the sound.

Wen Ruyi was startled and quickly lowered her head, her heart filled with horror.

Why is Gu Linchao here?

Thinking of what Gu Linchao had done back in the Wen family, she quickly lowered her head even further.

She absolutely must not let Gu Linchao see her, otherwise her purpose in leaving this manor will be in vain.

Thinking about it, she timidly hid behind Gu Heng, as if afraid of the scene before her.

Seeing her like this, and thinking of her situation, Gu Heng felt pity for her. He turned to Gu Linchao and explained, "Uncle, this young lady saved me. I want to take her back to the palace."

Gu Linchao noticed a woman standing behind him, who seemed shy, so he didn't look at her closely and quickly looked away.

"Since she saved the Emperor, the Emperor can decide what to do himself."

"Thank you, Imperial Uncle," Gu Heng said respectfully.

Gu Linchao didn't say anything more and took the lead in walking out of the manor.

Seeing this, Wen Ruyi breathed a huge sigh of relief.

Fortunately, Gu Linchao did not notice her.

She felt relieved, yet also somewhat disappointed.

She admired Gu Linchao; she had been in love with him for many years.

But unexpectedly, Gu Linchao married that idiot Wen Nongnong.

How could she stand by and watch Wen Nong Nong sit on the throne of the Regent's Consort and enjoy that supreme glory?

Therefore, she kept smearing Gu Linchao in front of Wen Nongnong.

That idiot Wen Nongnong is not only narcissistic and vain, but she also likes good-looking people.

She learned that Gu Linchao was ugly and cruel, how could she tolerate it?

She easily persuaded him to elope with Xue Ziyu.

Unexpectedly, despite having everything arranged perfectly, things went wrong at the crucial moment.

Wen Nongnong has managed to clear herself of all wrongs, but she herself has fallen into a quagmire, ending up in this predicament.

Fortunately, fate was kind to her, allowing her to meet Gu Heng and save him.

She took one last look at the man walking in front, and vowed in her heart that if Wen Nongnong had harmed her, she would not let her get away with it.

The servants in the village dared not even breathe loudly.

They had never seen such an important person before, and they were already so frightened that their legs went weak.

Since the Emperor wanted to take Wen Ruyi away, they naturally dared not stop him.

The group quickly left the village.

Just as she stepped out of the manor, perhaps because the light was too dim, Wen Ruyi didn't notice the road and tripped.

She gasped in surprise, and in her panic, grabbed the hand of the person in front of her haphazardly.

When the woman's soft hand suddenly reached out to support him, Gu Heng was taken aback and turned his head to look.

"I'm sorry..." Wen Ruyi said hurriedly, steadying herself by his arm.

"I'm fine," Gu Heng said calmly, then after a moment's thought, asked, "Are you alright?"

"No." Wen Ruyi shook her head, timidly, and somewhat apologetically.

"You saved me, there's no need to be so reserved," Gu Heng said gently upon seeing this.

"Okay." Wen Ruyi lowered her head, a hint of shyness appearing on her face.

Gu Heng's gaze deepened as he looked at her.

Si Yi led over a large chestnut horse. "Your Majesty, please mount your horse."

"Alright." Gu Heng nodded and, with the help of the guards, mounted his horse. Looking back, he saw Wen Ruyi standing there alone with her head down. Without thinking, he reached out his hand to her, "Come on, I'll take you."

Wen Ruyi seemed to hesitate for a moment, then bit her lip and timidly offered her hand.

Gu Heng took her hand and pulled her onto the horse. Seeing that she was dressed in thin clothes, he pulled his cloak over her shoulders.
