Su Lixia barely managed to get away with it.
Once inside the carriage, Su Lixia took off her hat.
Xiao Lian chuckled and said, "The princess looks kind of funny like this."
"A woman's attire, a man's face—if others saw this, who knows how they would laugh at me? Maybe some would even call me a pervert."
Hearing this, Xiaolian covered her mouth and smiled, then asked, "So, where is the princess planning to go after she changes her clothes?"
"They go to places like card rooms, which are only frequented by men."
"Then the princess must be quite ignorant."
Su Lixia asked, puzzled, "What do you mean?"
"The women here are generally quite open-minded; you can even find women in card rooms."
How did you know all this?
"You'll know once you chat with them."
Su Lixia tilted her head curiously: "Is this all you talk about?"
Xiao Lian nodded and explained, "Because I am from the Central Plains, and they have never been to the Central Plains, I share things about our place with them. Then everyone shares the differences. Speaking of which, the women here are relatively happier than those in our place."
Su Lixia raised an eyebrow and nodded: "I see. It seems you're quite good at socializing."
Xiaolian didn't understand the word "social."
"She's very good at chatting and making friends. She's outgoing, not reserved, and not introverted."
Xiaolian then understood and said, "It's because I've been with the princess for so long. The princess knew about this much earlier than I did before, but now she doesn't take the initiative to talk to me anymore."
Upon hearing this, Su Lixia's lips twitched: "Mainly because Su Lixia didn't have so many settings in the original book."
"Young master, we have arrived." Before leaving, Xiaolian had given her blessing, telling her not to call her princess, but young master.
Su Lixia nodded to Xiaolian, signaling her to go downstairs to buy clothes.
"Yes." Xiaolian got off the carriage and went into the shop.
What would you like to order, sir?
“I want a ready-made outfit. My young master was in a hurry to leave and forgot to bring a change of clothes, so I have to buy a new one.”
Upon hearing this, the shopkeeper looked outside and nodded, saying, "Alright, then come with me, young lady."
So the shopkeeper led Xiaolian to the clothing store behind.
"These are all the ready-made clothes. Describe your body type, young master, and I'll help you choose one."
Xiaolian gestured with her hands and said, "He's about this taller than me, and rather thin."
The shopkeeper raised an eyebrow: "It seems your young master isn't very tall." After saying that, he picked up a hook and started to hook the clothes.
"Let your young master try it on. This one should be about right. The others are all too big."
"No need to try. Since you think it's about the same, then it should be about the same. How much is it? I'll pay you."
Xiaolian was shocked when the shopkeeper told her the price.
"Is it that expensive?"
"These kinds of ready-made clothes are already difficult to make, not to mention these silk threads, which are all special silk threads, so they are naturally more expensive than ordinary ready-made clothes. Besides, your young master looks so noble that he probably doesn't even deserve this kind of thing."
Upon hearing this, Xiaolian asked in confusion, "You've never even met my young master, how do you know he's noble?"
"There are only a few people in the city who can afford to ride in a sedan chair, and with such a refined maid like you, it's bound to be good."
Xiaolian covered her mouth and chuckled, saying, "Alright, I'll buy it just because you said that." With that, Xiaolian gave him the money, then took the clothes and left.
After Xiaolian left, the waiter stepped forward, gave her a thumbs up and praised, "As expected of the boss, you can do even this well."
"Of course, if you look carefully, you can't go wrong. Even if the price doubles, it still sells."
"Boss is brilliant," the waiter flattered.
After taking the clothes, Xiaolian helped Su Lixia change into them as they walked down the street.
Upon arriving at the familiar teahouse, Xiaolian told the driver to go first, and only after he left did the two of them get off.
The teahouse owner recognized Xiaolian and thought Su Lixia's features looked familiar, but couldn't quite place her, so the more he looked, the stranger she seemed.
Su Lixia felt a little uncomfortable being stared at and said, "Let's hurry up and arrange a room. We've been traveling all day and we're very tired."
The shopkeeper nodded and told them the shop number with a "de-le" sound. He added, "If you need anything, just call the waiter. We have a promotion today; everyone who comes in will receive a free cup of black tea. If you don't like it, you don't have to."
"Yes, yes, then we won't need to order tea, which is perfect."
The shopkeeper nodded: "Yes, then young master, please go up first, take the stairs on the left."
"Okay." After agreeing, Su Lixia went.
Upon entering the house, Xiaolian looked at Su Lixia with a delighted expression and said, "Princess, it's amazing! No one really recognized you. But looking at that shopkeeper, I actually have some doubts about you."
"Yeah, he gave me the creeps, luckily we ran fast."
A short while later, complimentary black tea was served.
"Is there anything else you need, sir?"
"Give me some fruits and snacks, I'll put it on the tab and settle the bill when I leave."
"yes."
"Drinking tea, watching opera, and listening to crosstalk—that's the standard! It's a pity he only has these basics here; nothing else."
Xiaolian continued to explain: "Because their entertainment here is different from ours. They usually drink tea and watch polo, horse riding, acrobatics, and the like."
Su Lixia looked at Xiaolian with admiration: "You know all this too?"
Xiao Lian hummed in agreement and said, "They only found out through chatting, but they haven't seen the play yet. We only saw it in the palace last time, and they couldn't easily invite them over."
"But their projects sound pretty fun too."
"They're not in the city center, they're all in the suburbs."
"Why don't we go check it out and experience it?" Su Lixia suggested.
"Of course we'll listen to the princess. If the princess wants to go, then we'll go. It just so happens that we haven't been to a place like that before."
Su Lixia nodded and said, "Okay, let's go tomorrow."
After saying that, he wondered, "By the way, if it's in the suburbs, the only place he could stay would be a yurt, right?"
Xiao Lian clapped her hands and said, "Princess is right, it's a yurt. Xiao Lian really wants to experience it!"
Su Lixia raised an eyebrow: "When we go on the autumn hunt, we'll have to stay here every day."
"Perfect, I can get used to it in advance."
"As expected of you, you're getting more and more shrewd."
Xiao Lian chuckled and said, "If it weren't for the princess's doting, how could Xiao Lian dare to do that?"
No sooner had he finished speaking than the waiter came in with a food box.
"Lychees are long out of season, how come you still have them here?" Su Lixia asked in confusion.
"This isn't a lychee, it's a crispy shell carved into the shape of a lychee. Inside are nut balls, which are fragrant and crunchy, and very delicious. It's a new dish in the restaurant, and we're offering it to you for free, sir."
Su Lixia held up the fake lychee and looked at it: "It's really good. This is meticulous work. It's well done."
