Chapter 85 Opening the City Gates

"Yes, yes, yes." The guard nodded, then turned to the side and shouted inside, "Open the city gate!"

The city gates were wide open to welcome Su Lixia, as she was a distinguished guest. Usually, everyone would use a side gate, and even Yi Zexuan was no exception.

The young guard happily got into the carriage, winked at him, and said smugly, "See? The gate!"

The guard rolled his eyes at him, utterly speechless.

"Thanks to the princess, I became the first person to enter the palace in a carriage."

Su Lixia peeked out from the front, and Xiao Lian was caught off guard. It was too late to stop her now. She sighed helplessly and said, "Princess, please take one look and come in quickly."

"Oh! Does that mean I'm the first princess to come in like this?"

"Of course not. I'm just the first person here to enter like this. Outsiders all come in with tokens and passes."

Upon hearing this, Su Lixia was taken aback and asked in return, "Then why don't we need these? We've never even heard of them."

"You are a princess and will be the regent's wife, so of course you can go in directly without needing those things."

Su Lixia narrowed her eyes, her gaze filled with a threatening aura, and said, "Shut up, take back what you just said, you're not the Regent's Consort!"

The young guard's lips twitched: "No, no..."

Su Lixia nodded in satisfaction, then lowered the carriage curtain and sat back down.

The carriage stopped near Langting, and everyone looked over at the sound of its wheels.

The Empress frowned and asked softly, "The people sitting in that carriage seem to be the Prince's men. They shouldn't be so rude. What's going on?"

But Yi Zexuan got up and walked over.

Seeing that Yi Zexuan ignored her, the Empress frowned and gently clenched her fist.

The young guard lifted the carriage curtain, and then Xiao Lian stepped down first.

"Who else in the city has such an arrogant daughter who can stop her carriage here?"

The ladies in the seats were whispering among themselves.

Then a delicate hand reached out from the car, and Xiao Lian took it, helping Su Lixia out of the car.

Wearing a lake-blue palace dress, Su Lixia's fair skin was accentuated by the dress's fresh and elegant appearance, which was refreshing. However, her simple hairstyle made her seem very low-key.

"The princess arrived earlier than I expected." With that, Yi Zexuan extended a hand and let her take his.

Seeing this, Su Lixia became cautious and questioned, "What are you going to do?"

"You're most charming when you're silent; once you start talking, it all gets ruined."

"Tch, mind your own business!" Su Lixia tried her best to court death, hoping to gain some blackening points.

"So this is Her Highness the Princess?" the crowd whispered among themselves.

The crowd nodded in agreement, with one person praising, "This princess from a great nation is truly exceptional. Her poise and presence are something few can achieve."

The Empress exchanged a glance with the palace maid beside her, frowning in confusion: "No one notified us that the Princess was coming to the garden party?"

Lin Ziwen turned to look at her and explained, "I know a little about it. It's probably because the princess loves to play and heard that there's a garden party in the palace, so she wanted to come and have some fun. If we inform everyone, it will be too grand and everyone won't be able to enjoy themselves."

The Empress nodded: "I see."

"Give me your hand. Are you going to go over there yourself? You don't know anything. It's not right to be so disrespectful to the newly enthroned Empress, even if you are a legitimate princess." As he spoke, Yi Zexuan stretched his hand forward again.

Su Lixia pouted and reluctantly placed her hand on his palm.

As they walked hand in hand toward everyone, Miss Zhang glanced at Xue Yurou, then coughed twice to clear her throat and deliberately said loudly, "As expected of the Fifth Princess of the Central Plains, she is even more beautiful than the legends say. Walking beside the Prince like this, they are truly a perfect match!"

Hearing the sound, Su Lixia glanced in the direction of the sound. The woman was dressed in a neutral style and was not sitting elegantly, but with her legs wide open.

Su Lixia smiled slightly, thinking to herself, "The second female lead is really well-written; you can immediately recognize her character. Unlike the first female lead, who seems to look just like everyone else."

"Just perform the greetings according to your Central Plains etiquette, there's no need for anything elaborate," Yi Zexuan instructed Su Lixia, slightly opening his mouth.

Upon hearing this, Su Lixia was stunned. How could she possibly perform the Central Plains greeting?

Noticing Su Lixia's expression, Yi Zexuan chuckled and said softly, "That's true. I've heard that the princess never bows properly. What are we going to do? She's almost here."

Su Lixia's lips twitched: "I don't need you to remind me, this princess will adapt to any situation."

"Why didn't you tell me beforehand that the princess was coming? I could have sent someone to greet her at the palace gate," the Empress asked directly.

"Your Majesty, please don't be offended. This was the princess's idea. She was bored at home, so she took this opportunity to have some fun."

Su Lixia smiled, curtsied slightly as a greeting, and said, "This place is really well decorated, beautiful and elegant. Was it arranged by the Empress?"

"These are just common things, Princess, please don't flatter me. Please have a seat."

Su Lixia nodded and said, "Thank you, Your Majesty."

"Is this what you call improvisation?" Yi Zexuan sneered at someone.

"It's so beautiful and natural, not pretentious at all."
