"Oh dear, oh dear? This is really against etiquette!" The old woman was still vehemently refusing.
The young guard frowned and grumbled, "What's the rush? She's the future princess's woman now, what's with all this talk of propriety!"
He shoved them both out, slammed the door shut, locked the door from the outside, pulled out the key, and held it high, smugly saying, "Heh! Let's see what you're going to do now!"
"You! You're being a scoundrel!" Xiaolian stomped her foot in exasperation.
The young guard shrugged and spread his hands, saying, "But it was the prince's order. If you have something to say, go talk to the prince."
Yi Zexuan inside: ...Did I tell you to lock the door?
The young guard strode away, humming a little tune.
"There's no use in being anxious now. Didn't you see how drunk the princess is? It would be good if the prince could take care of her. If anything happens, the wedding will just be moved up." The old woman shook her head and sighed before saying this.
"Go back to the gatehouse and wait. Come out when you hear any noise." With that, the old woman left.
Xiaolian looked worried, glanced at the door, then at the old woman's back, and followed her away.
Inside the room, Su Lixia still clung tightly to Yi Zexuan, burying her head in his neck, smacking her lips, and then reaching out to scratch his buttocks.
Seeing this, Yi Zexuan closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and tried to pry her hands open.
"Huh? Who stole my pillow! Don't you dare!" Su Lixia could feel it, and then she used even more strength, flipping him over and pinning him underneath.
Yi Zexuan gritted his teeth; this was the first time in his life he had been defeated by a woman.
Hearing that Su Lixia's breathing was unsteady, Yi Zexuan knew that she was not asleep yet, so he helplessly gave up struggling and let her hug him to sleep, and even cooperated with her various turning movements.
After Su Lixia fell into a deep sleep, Yi Zexuan looked at her slightly flushed face and chuckled, "Could it be that you did it on purpose, playing hard to get so early?"
After getting up from Su Lixia's arms, Yi Zexuan straightened his clothes and prepared to leave.
But they found the door was locked...
Yi Zexuan frowned and pulled the door harder. It was indeed locked. He then looked at the windows. There were many windows in the backyard, but they were all small, so he couldn't go out from there at all.
With his hands on his hips, Yi Zexuan was speechless, but in his heart he cursed the person who locked the door.
The young guard sneezed twice while lying on the couch, rubbed his nose, turned over, and continued sleeping.
Helpless, he had no choice but to squeeze in with Su Lixia and sleep inside.
It was already late at night, and the lady of the house was still nowhere to be seen.
The maid was already dozing off by the door frame, while the lady sat at the table gazing out the window, her mind heavy with worries.
The night breeze was cool, and a gust of wind woke the maid. She shivered and rubbed her arms back and forth. Seeing that the mistress was still sitting there, she got up and went over.
He closed the open window and said, "It's chilly at night, and Miss is dressed too lightly. Be careful not to catch a cold sitting in the wind. But Miss, aren't you going to rest?"
Upon hearing this, the female lead smiled beautifully at her, gently shook her head, and said, "It's okay, I'm not sleepy yet."
"With the princess's arrival at the palace, there must be many things to attend to, so Miss need not worry."
"It's already late at night. How long can we keep busy? We didn't even realize that two people had disappeared."
The maid smiled slightly and said, "Miss is overthinking it. Look how many things and people that princess brought. She's going to the palace to meet the master. She must have been packing overnight. Otherwise, how could she have made it in time? I wonder why you haven't gone back yet. If they make too much noise, they might disturb your sleep."
"Yes, yes." The female protagonist nodded, and many of her doubts were resolved.
