"Then let's set off today," Lin Ziwen suggested.
"Alright, but he lives in the mountains, and the roads are difficult to travel at night. You'll need to bring two extra lanterns. Pack your things."
The men nodded, then turned to the steward and said, "Go and pack up that bottle of fine wine that is treasured in the manor."
"yes."
Before long, the two packed their things, loaded a carriage, and set off.
Before leaving, Lin Ziwen instructed, "You must guard the house well. Do not let anyone in, no matter who they are, to ensure the princess's safety."
"Yes, young master, don't worry, with us here, there won't be any problems."
Lin Ziwen nodded and rode away.
"Are you feeling anxious?" Lin Ziwen asked him.
Yi Zexuan, who was dozing off with his eyes half-closed, opened them slightly and replied, "What's the panic?"
"What if we bring him down, and then the princess can't be cured?"
"It's a matter of fate, there's nothing to panic about."
Lin Ziwen shook his head: "What you said is not quite right. I can still feel your emotions, after all, she saved you."
“I will be grateful for her saving my life, and if she really does not make it, I will avenge her.”
Lin Ziwen raised an eyebrow: "I know you were injured too. I really admire you for being so calm and composed."
"It's just a habit."
Upon hearing this, Lin Ziwen was speechless: "You...you mustn't be thinking of anything bad."
Yi Zexuan rolled his eyes at him: "What exactly are you trying to say?"
Lin Ziwen shook his head: "It's nothing. It's getting dark, let's hurry up." With that, Lin Ziwen sped up.
The two arrived at their destination just as darkness fell.
Looking at the misty mountain road ahead, Lin Ziwen couldn't help but sigh: "Walking this road at night might kill us. And the last time we walked this road was several years ago. I don't know if we can still find it."
Yi Zexuan lit a lantern and carried it ahead.
"If you're scared, you can wait until dawn to go." With that, Yi Zexuan started walking up the mountain.
Lin Ziwen's lips twitched, and he quickly picked up the other two lanterns and followed.
"It's just a little rant, why are you so impatient?"
"I hate it most when you whine about nothing."
"Alright, alright, I won't joke with you like that anymore. Let's go, I still remember this place." With that, Lin Ziwen walked ahead.
The two had walked about a third of the way when Lin Ziwen stopped and took a breath.
"How did he find this mountain? Doesn't he know how difficult it is to walk at night?" Lin Ziwen complained before continuing uphill. There was a sturdy wooden stick on the ground, which Lin Ziwen picked up and used as a walking stick.
"Stop talking, save your energy for climbing the mountain."
The next morning…
The two lay on the mountainside, watching the sunrise through the gaps in the branches and leaves.
"Why didn't we bring a water bottle when we set off? What's the point of bringing so many lanterns?"
"So you're so thirsty, yet you're still talking so much?" Yi Zexuan was speechless.
Lin Ziwen sat up, turned his head to look at Yi Zexuan and said, "I have a brilliant plan."
As he spoke, Lin Ziwen stood up and began to pour the dew off the leaves, drinking it down in small sips. Although it didn't help much, it did relieve his immediate distress.
Yi Zexuan shook his head and smiled as he watched his actions: "You're not stupid after all."
Lin Ziwen laughed twice: "I'm not stupid, I'm very smart."
"Woof woof!"
"What's that sound?" Lin Ziwen asked nervously.
"The dog was barking; I don't know if it was his pet dog or a stray dog from the mountains."
A dog came running over in no time; it was a little yellow dog.
“He raised it.” Yi Zexuan squatted down and waved to it. Little Yellow hesitated for a moment, then wagged its tail and ran over.
Lin Ziwen, who was already clinging to the tree, breathed a sigh of relief and then jumped down.
"This is the pet dog of the people of the Central Plains. It has a great deal of trust in people, otherwise it would have bitten you long ago."
Just then, a voice came from not far away.
Lin Ziwen exclaimed in surprise, "There's always a way out! How did we end up meeting you here?"
“I got up early to gather some herbs. This dog has a keen sense of smell. It caught your scent and came running over. What am I saying to it?”
After they finished speaking, the three of them saluted each other.
“We’ve been climbing the mountain all night, and it’s thanks to this that we got here. Otherwise, we don’t know when we would have found it,” Lin Ziwen explained.
The man smiled and said, "It seems you have urgent business, otherwise the prince wouldn't have come." As he spoke, he looked at Yi Zexuan.
"After all, we've been through thick and thin together, so why would my arrival mean there's trouble?"
The man shook his head: "That's hard to say, it's a mystery."
"Hahaha." Lin Ziwen laughed twice: "What are you talking about? Take us back quickly, we're exhausted from not sleeping all night."
"Go and gather some herbs first. Even though you seem fine now, you'll still have cold symptoms by noon. You should take some preventative medicine first."
Lin Ziwen nodded in agreement: "Yes, yes, the mountain wind is so strong tonight, it's freezing me."
The three of them talked as they walked upstairs.
"Speaking of which, why would you climb a mountain in the middle of the night? You know, climbing a mountain at night is the most dangerous thing to do."
"It's a long story, I'll tell you properly when we get back. By the way, do you have any water with you? I'm dying of thirst, please give me a drink."
The man rolled his eyes at him: "You've probably been muttering to yourself the whole way, how come you didn't die of thirst?"
"You understand him best. No matter what I say, I can't control him."
The man chuckled, "Anyone who spends a day with him would probably know this."
Lin Ziwen's lips twitched: "Can you two please stop insulting me?"
With his guidance, the two quickly returned to his residence.
"You all rest for now. I'll go gather some herbs myself. There's porridge in the kitchen; if you're hungry, just help yourselves."
"Okay, then you should go quickly." The two saw him off.
The two then began to explore his residence.
"He even bought this land, cultivated it, and planted so many things here," Yi Zexuan exclaimed.
"That is to say, it seems like there's nothing he can't do."
"I'll go in and take a nap first; I'm a little tired."
"Okay, I'll go too."
After saying that, the two of them took over his bed.
"Well, Lord Zhang, not a single sound, right?" Yuan Ruo asked Lord Zhang smugly.
"Ever since the prince left, the emperor has become increasingly depressed, only caring about his own enjoyment and not caring about these things at all. It seems that we don't care about them anymore."
"Isn't that perfect? You can take this opportunity to do your own thing and relax."
Lord Zhang waved his hand: "I'm not playing with them, and they won't let me bring my wife along either."
